I just got around to reading Secondhand Origin Stories this past week (acquired a while ago, life was life, I dumped myself out of a canoe while my old ereader was in my pocket, etc etc), and it’s great. I stayed up past my bedtime on a work night to finish it, and I’m a 34-year-old who starts work at 8am so that says a lot about how much it was exactly the book I needed right now.

I just bought Names in Their Blood yesterday and am saving it for the next moment when I Need An Absorbing Story Desperately.

All of which is to say that I happen to think these are exceptionally good books for the present moment, and if the summary seems remotely appealing you should go get them because right now they are FREE.

EMERGENCY PLEASE HELP!!

Monday, October 28th: Hello, everyone. I’m Gem, a bi, mentally ill, and multiple disabled woman in desperate need of help, as I'm struggling to pay my overdrawn account before I receive my welfare!!

I apologize for asking for help again; as most of you know from my previous posts, I have been struggling quite a lot to make ends meet while on welfare benefits and due to my rent arrears and ever-increasing debt. And to be quite honest, these past few months have been absolute hell for me, and with no other income, I've been relying on the kindness of others to get by.

However, I am in desperate need of that kindness again. I couldn't pay my bills last month because I was behind on my rent, so they charged my bank, which has left me in the negative. I don't receive my welfare until the 31st, which will go towards this balance if I can't pay it off in time and leave me with next-to-nothing of my welfare.

obviously your twitter mutual arbitrarily dming you out of the blue to describe a detailed account of the abuse they experienced as a child is one thing but i often see the word "traumadumping" applied to things as mundane as a friend or relative telling you their girlfriend broke up with them or that they got in a bad fight with their dad and like that is not traumadumping that is simply seeking emotional consolation from a friend, which isn't exactly uncommon nor is it an unreasonable thing to desire. these people are not necessarily asking you to become their therapist or what the fuck ever, usually they are merely looking for reassurance and recognition as simple as "sorry to hear that i hope things start looking up for you soon." i understand that situations like this can still be hard and make you feel confused and helpless and unsure of exactly what you can do/say, but i just feel like it's downright cruel to act as though wanting comfort from a friend when you're going through a rough period is somehow a moral failing and the big boy thing to do in such a situation would just be to suck it up and repress lest you make your emotions someone else's problem
