Art has improved(?) over the past decade, good
Dynasty Warriors Zhang He will never not be funny to me
Oh my God i just remembered the part of the novel where baby Liu Chan blinds Zhang He with a burst of light
I didn't play long enough into the series to see Liu Chan be playable. Does his move set have the blinding flash of light? Because if it doesn't, that's a definite missed opportunity.
The last time I played DW was DW4:XL I didn't know he was in the game
I have both seven and eight and barely played them, after basically completing everything up to five. I just started buying more small games, which leaves me less time and inclination to complete a big, grindy game like the Dynasty Warriors games tend to be.
Btw, DW8: Extreme Legends is where Yu Jin becomes playable, in case you're that devoted to him that you'd pick up a game solely on his name value.
Why would I spend money on a Dynasty Warriors game where Lu Xun isn't wearing his hat
I'll start drawing again soon
Since it's top of mind, naming my cat Junyi is still one of the best decisions I've ever made. The problem is what happens when I inevitably need to replace him
Zhu Ling lol
rocket launches are beautiful, one of the coolest things humans have ever made, that and garlic bread.
Hello,
I enjoy that you appear to be ten years deep into the Tumblr Yu Jin tag
YESSSS!!! That big meow meow of a man is truly both sad and fascinating to read about. He’s my favourite *little* guy that was wronged and I have big feelings about it.
Although I’m still learning about him (to write fanfic LOLLLL), my only real knowledge is really from Dynasty Warriors (Which they made him beautifully ❤️). But I’m definitely having the time of my life going through what you have said! It’s fascinating and I love that a few people still talk about him!!! <3
He's having, like, a Renaissance in the modern world because our morality as a species has finally caught up to his, where we realize that actually a commander who surrenders in order to save the lives of the men under his command instead of letting them get slaughtered for your ruler's reputation is, in fact, virtuous and honorable. And most importantly it's completely consistent with his previous behavior (attacking the Qingzhou soldiers, not pillaging, etc). He'd be such a good protagonist in like a Netflix series or something because he's basically the embodiment of "war sucks, actually"
The last Dynasty Warriors I played was I think DW4:XL but when I found out Yu Jin was finally in the game and I saw him, I have to say his design is TOP NOTCH, like, he looks like an ancient Chinese general and for a Warriors game you can't get much better than that. It's what he deserves. AND they treat him with dignity in his story. Also he's hot.
Not like Kessen.
And fanfic is so valid, i wrote a story with him in it and only because I have my own kind of in-head version of him is it technically "historical fiction" and not fanfiction when really it's the same
And when you step out of Dynasty Warriors he gets even better because there is a nonzero chance that he was actually bffs with a bandit king
Somebody on AO3 wrote a 150k story about Yu Jin in Chinese

What a time to be alive. What a righteous virtuous author. Not since Kong Pingzhong has there been such a wordsmith of the heart
Does anybody want to listen to me talk about how Yu Jin attacking the qingzhou soldiers is why Cao Pi had to make sure he was remembered as a coward while consolidating power
I'm here for it. My Three Kingdoms Tumblr has been sadly quiet for a while.
Actually not as intricate to explain as I thought
The fact that Yu Jin attacked the Qingzhou soldiers, who were also under Cao Cao's control could have been a huge loss of face for Cao Cao. Yu Jin chose, without asking permission, to attack an ally because he was putting his own personal values over Cao Cao's face.
Fast forward 20-ish years later and he suddenly makes a decision that makes Cao Cao lose face, probably for the same values that made him do it last time (assuming it had to do with avoiding pointless slaughter which I think is plausible based on his other behavior). Except this time he has the weight of 20 years of being famous for not betraying his values and having his own gravitas/dignity.
You're Cao Pi, you just ended the Han Dynasty, and you're trying to make sure that all power and legitimacy comes from YOU and not from any residual individual influence and so you're picking off troublemakers. I would not want to reward a guy who is willing to sacrifice his and your face for whatever his personal values are. You want your veterans to know that no loss of face is tolerated; the emperor's values are your values.
Of course this is all with the caveat that had Pang De not been there as a contrast it all might have been different (not saying Pang De didn't have his own reasons)
Just spitballing bc of how obviously consistent Yu Jin is to a modern eye
Does anybody want to listen to me talk about how Yu Jin attacking the qingzhou soldiers is why Cao Pi had to make sure he was remembered as a coward while consolidating power
So upsetting that by the Han dynasty, China ditched the god-tier weaves that the Qin Shihuangdi tomb soldiers were serving
I don't think we as a culture truly appreciate enough the fact that Liu Bei really did not like Zhang He
