#btw this probably isn't the appropriate post to point it out but every time i see that pic of catra the uncolored tufts error bothers me!!!

this 1x01 shot seems to be her most popular promo pic of her debut online ─ so, of course, i had to fix it:

only the tufts & stripes were my doing, but i couldn't be bothered to do the work of cutting out all the spiky shapes (hair & claws) myself, so i dug up a white-background sticker from redbubble that was posted to pinterest (which is why the quality isn't very high), though the link doesn't work anymore since i saved it a year ago. in any case, i appreciate that the bluish-purple outlines were already changed to black like in later episodes, as well as the decision to use a slightly softer color palette overall.

i decided to slightly recolor it properly - you probably won't notice much if you check out the original post - according to the reference sheet (as opposed to the scene's lighting, or however OP got their color palette) to make it Truly Default for potential use since it's unofficially regarded as the most recognizable catra pic, even to people who haven't watched she-ra.

Making Adora a First One is such a gold mine for fanfic. Here's this precursor civ that's clearly a bunch of colonizing assholes! Also, Adora and Mara are the only ones we see in person on screen!

What makes them unique? WHO KNOWS!!

We can safely assume Catra has retroreflective eyes, but maybe Adora does too! Maybe Adora can't contract diseases from other Etherians! Maybe she can, but only from people with enough First Ones ancestry that their immune systems are susceptible to the same pathogens! And slight deviations from canon are still totally within canon tone and themes!

Anyway, I love Unnerving Adora and you should too.

neither height is like, canon canon, but I tried to make it somewhat accurate? idk Catra got bigger after I fixed the anatomy and then I didn't feel like shrinking her

also reference girly has a gorgeous figure and it definitely unconsciously influenced my depiction of Catra lol

My first submission for @creatingblackcharacters’s Melanin Beam Challenge!!! Catra, Bow, Adora, and Glimmer from SPoP :)

To be honest I’ve always hc Glimmer as Blasian and Catra as at least half Black as well, simply bc I do that with almost every character I like or relate to (and bc I can) 😋 (Also I feel like Glimmer could only shape her hair like that if it was Afro texture) And I love Adora too, but she very much gives white girl in the show so I usually draw her as white lol. But I luv Black Adora so much :3 And Bow is canonically Black in the show, however he (1) is lowkey colored bright orange (2) is drawn with a pointed nose and implied small lips like most of the other white/non Black characters, and (3) has a high top with NO fade 💔 I guess some of that can be attributed to simplifying things for animation, but still it bothers me. So whenever I draw him I change all of those things. :3

like she was also raised by shadow weaver... i get that shes supposed 2 b the Good Guy but cmon. she couldve been more toxic. catra cannot be the only toxic one.

in my mind adora would be the Controlling type of toxic, where she kinda thinks she Owns catra bc shadow weaver constantly made catra adora's responsibility and prolly embedded the idea that catra is an extension of Adora thus... controlling.. plus since adoras like catras only friend = more reliance on adora 👀👀👀👀 catra's codependence on adora would Nourish this nicely...

cuz we see Catra mirror shadow weaver in the series, can we see adora mirror sw by not recognising catra's autonomy since she views catra as her own....? Just putting it out there guys dont jump me.... its toxic for a reason...

this couldve been capitalised on when adora tries to get catra to leave the horde w her at the start because since adora thinks catra is an extension of herself, she thinks catra will willingly follow anywhere she goes and its a bit of a shock when catra has her own agency outside of adora... mini rant abt catra holding out her hand in the finale/wish:

We actually all have to think about how adora's wishful future ends with catra holding out her hand for adora instead of the other way around

like the whole series adora has repeatedly held her hand out to catra (literally and metaphorically with how she keeps trying to get catra on her side) and her perfect future means no longer having to beckon catra over bcuz catra joins her anyways :')

it also shows how much adora truly wants to be loved and be chosen for Herself instead of being she-ra, specifically by Catra bcuz Catra’s possibly the only person who saw Adora’s individual worth outside of being she-ra. like. Adora wouldn't have to fight for love. It would just be reciprocated.

ALSO bcuz catra is notoriously bad at showing her feelings and love for adora due her insecurities, her openly Asking for adora to join her is just sooooo. Omg. Catra wouldn't be scared to show her love for adora because they'd be That secure in eachother.

Adora wouldn't have to fight for love, and catra would be able to openly love adora; it's literally a microcosm for the climax of the finale where catra finally expresses that she loves adora and adora finds her own strength from that. Because Catra was holding out her hand.

its also interesting how it's that freeze frame in the wish that flickers with horde prime bevause its possibly the most unrealistic part of the wish (to adora at this point imo) and its kinda why catras love confession is so poignant because catra literally does the most impossible part of the wish and its enough to bring adora back.
