Came back from vacation to more rave reviews, and I'm trying not to cry tears of joy about it. ^.^
i'm not the first person to note this, but imane khelif, in addition to winning a gold in boxing, has also managed the superhuman feat of getting jk rowling to shut the fuck up. i think the ioc should give her another medal.
there is a love in which i will always know you, just incase you forget.

"I'm from Topeka, Kansas. That means the Westboro Baptist Church is from my hometown - but you know what else is from my hometown? The folks who bought a house across from that church and painted it rainbow flag colors. Then they bought the one next to it and painted it like the trans flag. If you ever feel discouraged by the hate that exists in the world, or like the place you're from won't accept you, remember that queer folks are everywhere, even if you can't always see us. We might be right across the street. And sure, there are some terrible people in my hometown - but there's also the people who stood up to them. I have never been so proud of Topeka, Kansas as standing in front of that rainbow house. Don't give up on rural or seemingly conservative places that seem unaccepting on the surface - we're here too. If you need to leave those places for your safety, don't feel bad about it, but don't assume that all of us who are from here are homophobic, transphobic, etc. There are queer people and allies everywhere."

things to ask yourself when designing a female character:
how much blood is she covered in
are her eyes filled with madness
can she rip things to shreds with her fingernails
âUseless Magicâ by Florence Welch
something genuinely insane about going somewhere and getting to feel âi had some of the worst years of my life hereâ and âi was loved here, onceâ simultaneously.
In totally unrelated news I wrote a book about generational trauma in an ex-coal mining town based on the place I grew up and featuring the fictionalized real horror stories of people I know

So glad to see this unforgettable and gross moment in Chicago history is remembered in memes
Happy 20th anniversary to the Dave Matthews Band Chicago River Incident!
My personal theory about why queer people have a reputation for being weird and loud is that once you figure out that being yourself even in the most mundane and semi-normative way will piss people off you may as well throw off every trace of normative behavior and sensibility you donât want because if youâre going to be hated anyways you might as well have fun with it
If the most simple things like loving how you want, presenting how you want, having control over how you want your body to look, is frowned upon, well you might as well wear glitter. You might as well cross dress. You might as well shave all your hair off. Damned by the mainstream already. Might as well be free while you do it.
I think thereâs a lot of cishet people who would act and dress more outrageous if it was normal to do that. But being comfortable often resides on being normal and theyâre already mostly normal so they might as well stay comfortable.
Iâve met cishet men who told me theyâd wear feminine clothing and cishet women who told me theyâd shave their hair off if they felt safe doing so. A lot of people donât feel safe doing so. A lot of queer people donât feel safe already. So. We might as well. But cishet people have more to lose by being weird I suppose.
"Being queer may cause all my cishet friends and family to abandon me to the wind, may as well do it while dressing like a librarian elf who writes queer books and has jewel tone hair"

hmm yeah not surprised in the slightest (please note: this is not the fault of the editors. they're overworked and underpaid. it's the fault of the heads of tradpub deciding to maximize quantity over quality, time and time again.)
