Eh, I don't like this one.
I'm relating this comment to what we now know must be Sophie's really complicated feelings about her mother around the time of her disappearance. At twenty-two, Sophie doesn't really remember what happened. But she looks at Sha, and remembers she doesn't really like her.
“bon” waltenfile when he sees vulnerable women and children to manipulate
So what do we think happened to Charles? I think it’s interesting how his cause of death seems a bit more… understated? Yes he appears stretched out and distorted but when we see him “normal” he’s not as mangled or ripped up as the others. With the whole “I can’t remember my face” scene in bunnyfarm I thought his face would’ve been gone/ruined. There’s just damage to his throat.
“bon”’s been very creative with how he makes people “beautiful” and I don’t see that as much with Charles. The only thing I can think of that sets him apart is that he’s the only (intentional) male victim?
@cattailbouquet this is an actually good theory....what if bon was the person that was killed. this coupled with the symbolic imagery of him killing a deer and leaving it to die and suffer. I interpreted that as him leaving Rosemary to suffer, but this could be something. Him running away from the deer he killed to the lake, Bon being Jack in that moment, the white hand reaching up from the lake to grab Rosemary.
Also in Linda's diary, she said it was one random night Felix came home distraught and never stopped drinking after that. It'd make sense as to why he would be so empathetic to Felix's alcoholism and never condemn him for it. They're in this together.

In elementary school, my best friend and I had this game we would play where we were school supplies living inside a child's desk and going on slice-of-life adventures inside it. And I remember that a key component of our school supply society was a sort of religious schism that existed around the purpose and nature of the giant hand that occasionally reached in to grab different citizens, use them, and then return them, because most school supplies considered this an auspicious and enviable moment of being selected for a greater purpose and allowed a glimpse of a vast truth, but pencils considered it a horrible portent of doom because they always got sharpened during it and came back smaller and closer to death. We were third graders btw.
