i canât believe weâre all young professionals and academics and weâre still logging on to tumblr.com every single day to clown on ourselves. who let this happen
I fucking HATE what we have to do for money. I hate capitalism. I hate that we have built entire systems worshipping numbers that donât fucking mean anything. I hate living in a world where these figures can be the difference between life and death. I hate that these numerical values are how we measure our worth. People kill for money, they work until they can barely stay standing for it, they debase themselves to the point of dehumanization just to earn a little extra. I have lost a disgusting amount of time, energy, and life to the mandatory pursuit of money in order to survive and exist with dignity. Iâve had enough.
i love when you have a papercut or something and you go to sleep then wake up and itâs noticeably smaller. cell division <3
tea drinkers: unlike you filthy disgusting creatures i only drink green chamomile peppermint raspberry lemon tea, which makes all my insides glow 10 times brighter and improve. i can feel my body get healthier by every drink i take of my delicious hot mug of TEA. youre absolutely disgusting and a waste of human potential
coffee drinker: hhhnng lov those beans
someone tagged this as #tw drama
coffee drinkers: i am unimaginably powerful. i can see through time. i havenât slept in four days but who needs sleep when you are on a higher plane of existence. the beans are in my soul, they are in my heart. i AM the beans. soon i will vibrate at the harmonic resonance of the universe and transcend.
tea drinker: hhhhhhhhhhhot leaf juice
soda drinkers: death is coming. death is coming. pass me a hotdog.
energy drink drinkers: (just the fucking kill bill sirens played on repeat for eternity)
the caffeine fandom is fucking wild
Humans be like Iâll take a little poison. As a treat.
I will never understand why people create whole ass fantasy worlds and still oppress women in those worlds.
Like, you can have dragons, but not basic respect for women? Boring. Tired. Basic and sexist.
Everything Iâve learned about Elon Musk has been completely against my will.
i literally dont talk to anyone unless they talk to me first

Recently I was in a public place, chatting quietly with my friends, and this unattended child came out of nowhere and asked me to clarify one of the things Iâd said. So I explained myself to this kid, and as soon as he got an answer, he turned around without saying anything and continued on his way. It really felt like heâd just walked up to me and pressed A.Â
itâs has been 3pm the entire time iâve been in quarantine like i wake up and it feels like 3pm. i eat lunch itâs 3pm. i go to bed itâs 3pm. when will time move again
if my wife was hysterically explaining her paranoid delusions about paranormal violence in the home to me i would simply remain calm and support her cause sheâs probably right

I would eat them faster and with added vigor

Weâre all going to have PTSD and agoraphobia by the end of April
Like, my grandparents lived through the Great Depression and never really managed to give up their learned habits from that experience. Now, instead of âWhy are you guys sitting in the dark? You can afford to turn lights onâŠâ itâs going to be âWhy do you feel guilty about going to the grocery store? You arenât infecting anybody.â
Iâm already planning to have big bottles of hand sanitizer, and gloves for the rest of my life, also I want to buy an old school freezer, you know those ones that look like a coffin? I want one, and I want to fill it with frozen meat so I never EVER have to feel this fucking terror of what Iâll do if I run out of food.Â
This is an actual phenomenon called collective trauma, and yeah it can do just that.
Folks Iâm not sure if this is a joke or not but I think itâs time to stop throwing around the term trauma for whatever kind of hardships or inconveniences you experience. Sitting at home watching TV and running out of toilet paper wonât give you the trauma people with ptsd have and frankly itâs pretty disrespectful to say that. Feeling weird about going outside or being rightfully afraid of infection isnât comparable to actual agoraphobia either, and claiming that just makes you look those ppl who say shit like âIâm feeling so ocd/adhd XDâ. You can talk about your struggles without constantly downplaying and pretty much ridiculing mentaly Ill ppls conditions for those Big Serious Term tumblr points
Thank you! I think people tend to forget that trauma does not equal PTSD. Almost every person on earth will go through something traumatic in their life (death of a loved one, car accident, financial struggles etc), and most people will cope just fine. It will affect them, because life ainât easy, but they will learn from it, and they will move on. Some people will not cope well. Not all of those will develop PTSD. A few will. âCollective traumaâ does not mean âcollective PTSDâ, and I hope OP (and other kiddos reblogging this) can learn to understand the difference. (Iâm nice enough to assume that people who reblog this without questioning OPâs statement are young and going through something possibly traumatic for the first time ever, or people who are already struggling with other things.)
While obviously we donât want to throw around terms all willy-nilly, I feel like the two previous comments seriously underestimate what exactly is going on.Â
Like you want to talk about disrespect? How about downplaying a global pandemic that has already claimed the lives of 81,000 people and counting and left others with permanent lung damage to âsitting at home watching TV and running out of toilet paperâ. You arenât just âsitting at homeâ, you are stuck at home due to social distancing/quarantine. You are worried about the health and safety of your community, your loved ones, and yes, yourself.Â
Letâs talk about whatâs happening in society. Humans, who are inherently social creatures, are stuck in relative to complete isolation for weeks to months on end. That is traumatic. Those who arenât stuck at home are out risking their lives as healthcare workers/grocery store clerks/janitors/etc, often for shit pay and little benefits. That is traumatic. People are losing their jobs, which in my country means they lose their healthcare in addition to their source of income. That is traumatic. People are worried about running out of things because its an actual fucking risk due to the failures of capitalism. That is traumatic. Some people donât have enough money/space to keep a stockpile and are running out of money to pay for things. That is traumatic. People are stuck at home with abusers. That is traumatic. People are losing access to non-covid related healthcare, including mental healthcare. That is traumatic. Â
People are actually going through the trauma of isolation and living in a pandemic, and this is going to take a tremendous toll on peopleâs mental health.
And maybe these are all, to borrow my therapistâs words, little-t traumas in your view, since you seem so keen on normalizing trauma and making it a matter of âcoping wellâ. But they are happening against the backdrop of a big-fucking-t Trauma which is a global pandemic.Â
So yes, this is collective trauma, and yes some people (not everyone, but probably many) will develop some degree of PTSD from this. You donât get to gatekeep a complex disorder that is often undercounted and already ranges in severity and impact so that people who went through different experiences can all suffer from PTSD. Â
We live in such horridly individualistic times that we fail to reckon with the interconnection of humanity and the idea that yes, there can be such a thing as collective experiences of mental health/mental health disorders, including PTSD. The idea that we can just sit at home, watch TV, and not worry about how many people are suffering and dying is an insult to our humanity. Like the toxic neoliberal individualism really jumped out. Ugh.  Â
