foreman hate is genuinely just racism im not even joking.
if you hate him cause hes a robot then you havent watched yhe fucking show. yeah he can seem apathetic at times, but he cares. he cares so much. he risks his medical license, the thing hes worked for, fought tooth and nail to get, the reputation and approval he cares about so much. he risks it in the drug trials for thirteen and with chase and dibala. for people he cares about. he's also one of the smartest characters on the team.
so many people also mischaracterise his ambition for cruelty. he wants to get things yes thats true. he is not needlessly cruel in order to get them. he wanted to be dean but he waited til there was an opportunity. we cant even say the same about chase, who ratted house out to vogler at the very start for his own benefit. house is needlessly cruel, too. foreman is not.
also the whole part that he got chosen as dean. yes, he applied too but anyone could have taken that spot. especially within the context of him bring a former fellow of house people would have been wary because they know how unethical house and his team can be. the difference with foreman is he has a strong moral compass. ultimately he always wants to do the right thing. he always does.
people always hate on him for being an emotionless robot too. i think he's just so so so repressed. he cares he cares he cares (see para. one). he cries and screams and is scared when hes about to die in euphoria. we see him happy at chases bachelor party we see him smiling and laughing and cracking jokes all the time. where did these baseless claims even come from?
HE LITERALLY LEAVES THE FUCKING HOSPITAL. he leaves the highly acclaimed job working under house because he believed he no longer practiced medicine with the empathy a doctor should have.
and people commenting about his ego dont put ANYTHING into context. he is a person of colour who had to face racial prejudice and injustice and was questioned about his right to attend a good university and stuff. he grew up in a middle class background and he had a brother in prison and a juvie record. his ego is not so much ego rather than desire to prove himself. moreso, when we see chase try to do this, we all accept that it is need to prove himself. why not foreman??
also his confidence in his abilities really should not be doubted cause he is an incredibly intelligent guy, and arguably thr most qualified. chase got in on his fathers money and cameron cause she was pretty. what about foreman?? he is one of the most rational members of the team and whenever he has a case where he knows there might be bias he either corrects or learns.
he is also so much more open to learning than most. he learns about thirteen's bisexuality, makes an effort to understand (the rocky road conversation). he grows to respect chase and be friends with him despite their previous rivalry. he asks cameron for forgiveness and grows closer to her. he doesnt have to kiss everyone and makeout to prove that hes grown as a character and stopped disliking them.
also the repression that he has which is blamed as "emotionless" is reallt just a result of his isolation. cameron and chase had one another, his mother was being taken care of his father, house wouldve used anything he said against him. who did he have? who did he have to talk to??? thats why he had so many problems expressing himself with thirteen after kutner
addition (credits to @freakmd <33) : although he can be egotistical at times, its mostly a front to hide his insecurities and his imposter syndrome
i love foreman so much okay. any hate about him is just ridiculous fucking double standards or a result of no one watching the goddamn show.
Note: I hope these are decently written headcanons. I wanted to add so much more, but I decided to mainly focus on early childhood hcs & family dynamics. A few things may be a little scattered, so let me know if you need further elaboration.

GERARD J. PITTS
A child of divorce since around the time he was eight. Gerard’s mom got fully custody of him, so he only sees his dad once a month every summer.
Growing up, Gerard had a stutter. He was also a little late in speech development and didn’t start speaking fully until the age of five.
Took dancing lessons from ages seven to twelve. He is very passionate about it and always looked forward to school dances.
He has three younger half siblings: Libby (ten-year age gap) Katie (13-year age gap), and Sam (16-year age gap)
Second generation American since Gerard’s paternal grandfather emigrated to the U.S. from Scotland.
His dad is always flying around between the States and the United Kingdom for business and pleasure. A lot of the time, Gerard will hear about how his little siblings are taken with him and their mom on vacations across seas.
Gerard tells them to take pictures for him with a cheery smile on his face, but deep down inside he wishes to go with them. To this day, he still hasn’t been to his family’s home country or anywhere outside the U.S., even though his dad promised to take him.
Feels like an outsider with his dad’s family but won’t openly admit it. Whenever Gerard’s with his baby siblings it’s like he wants to make the most of what little time he has with them, but also he just wants to go home to his mom.
Absolutely hates getting into fights—the verbal ones, at that. Of course, you would never see him have an actual fist fight with someone, unless you got him really mad. But anyways, Gerard just can’t stand yelling at someone OR getting yelled at.
The first fight Pitts has ever had with Meeks ended him up in tears, so they try to just gently talk out their problems before emotions get too heightened and things start to bubble over in a bad way.
Gerard’s parents constantly fought, which is the main reason why he doesn’t like it. He would try to drown them out by listening to music on the radio.
Sent to therapy as a way to help Gerard cope with the divorce. He’s still seeing a therapist by the time he’s at Welton, but not many people know about it.
RICHARD S. CAMERON
Lives with his parents and maternal grandfather. Cam has a lot of siblings, but he’s the youngest so they tend to push him around more often than he’d prefer.
The Cameron family descend from Scottish lords, so there is some generational wealth there. They own lands in Scotland and vacation there during the winter and summer holidays.
Whenever they’re in Scotland, Cam’s dad takes him and his brothers out hunting for game. There are vast opens plains, as well as a few forests on their family property so it’s easy for them to find something to shoot.
He doesn’t exactly like shooting at things, or just killing animals in general. The only reason why Cam goes on these excursions is to spend time with his dad.
He knows how to sew and cook because his mom taught him how. Since Cam is the baby, she dotes on him the most and it shows.
Cam is also closest to his grandfather. He is always stopping by his office, watching as the old man sat in a leather armchair, smoking his wipe while reading the newspaper.
Inherited his red hair and freckles from his mom’s side of the family. He can’t remember how many times he’s been told that he shares a striking resemblance to Mrs. Cameron because of how often it happens.
Somebody already came up with this headcanon but I am a firm believer in birdwatcher/ornithologist!Richard Cameron. He loves birds and carries binoculars with him just to be on the lookout for rare ones.
He studies the color of their wings, the sound of their chirps, how they look for food and build their nests, etc.
Cam collects bird whistles, too. He brings a few of them to Welton and of course Charlie finds one or two. Let’s just say he gets an earful of Dalton’s teasing him about his peculiar hobby, but also almost loses hearing because of how many times Charlie blows the whistles in his ears.
He smoked his first pipe when he was thirteen. It was the middle of the night and he couldn’t sleep, so he tip-toed his way downstairs to his grandpa’s office and that’s where it all began.
“What your mother doesn’t know won’t hurt her,” said his grandfather with a cheeky grin, helping Cam light up.
NEIL W. PERRY
Neil grew up wishing that he had an older sibling or two that could shoulder the expectations his parents had for him. He hated being an only child and felt so lonely without a playmate because his parents were “too busy” to play with him.
Mr. and Mrs. Perry weren’t always so demanding of their son when he was younger. If anything, they were just exceedingly proud of any accomplishment Neil achieved, from his infanthood to early boyhood.
His first steps? “Oh, he’s walking longer distances than most babies do!” his first word? If anyone asks, Neil’s parents will tell them that his first word was “airplane,” and not something expected like “Mama” or “Dada.” They are super prideful of this claim, so nobody really questions it.
The alleged story of Neil’s first word: Mr. Perry was showing baby Neil an old picture of him in the Air Force during WW2, which featured him standing in front of an airplane. All of a sudden, Neil babbles something unintelligible, which is soon followed by the word “airplane.”
When Neil was old enough, around five or six, his dad took him to an airfield and they visited some of Mr. Perry’s old pilot friends that he fought with in the war.
They did that a lot as a way to bond. Mr. Perry would show his son different planes, even allowing him to sit in the cockpit of a few of them. Around the time Neil was eleven, his dad took him on his first flight.
Neil’s supposed “airplane fixation” was something his parents subtly forced upon him. Did he really like planes? He wasn’t sure, but it’s the only interest he’s truly focused on for as long as he can remember.
Neil’s family is from Ireland. The Perrys had to work their way to get to where they are now, which is why Tom Perry values a hardworking mindset. He had to watch his father fight so hard to provide for his wife and children, and later would have to do the same for the family he created for himself.
All Mr. Perry wanted was to give his son the life he could never dream of having for himself. Neil’s mom reminds him of this fact whenever he gets frustrated with his father, but she starts using it as a way to “rein him in”—a tactic to keep her son from disobeying.
Childhood friends with his neighbor’s niece, Judith Marks. She was the one who got Neil into theatre, having been a theatre kid herself. The two would organize home plays together and perform in front of Judith’s aunt.
When Judy suggested that Neil should start theatre, he went to ask his parents right away. Of course, they said no, unfortunately. That was one of the first times Neil felt true disappointment and sadness.
They would still perform for Judy’s aunt and uncle, but Neil couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to act on a real stage in front of a large audience.
TODD A. ANDERSON
When Todd was born, his parents thought that they were getting another Jeffrey. They believed he would be just as charismatic and magnetic as his brother was, but that was far from the truth.
Once it became clear to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson that their second-born son was a timid, colorless boy with nothing special about him, they slowly began disentangling themselves from him.
Todd was thrown into the arms of nannies, maids, as well as any other kind of household staff that was trustworthy enough to look after him. If anything, the people who were being paid to watch him acted as better parental figures than his own parents.
Todd had frequent nightmares growing up, leaving him screaming and shaking in a cold sweat. Since Jeffrey’s bedroom was only down the hall from his, the older boy could hear every scream and wail.
Jeff practically bolts into his little brother’s room whenever the nightmares start up. He is always quick to comfort Todd, wrapping him in a tight embrace while rocking him back and forth. He hums a soft tune, soothingly coaxing the younger boy back to sleep.
Sometimes Jeffrey will stay the night in Todd’s room so that he can make sure that the nightmares won’t come back. Other times, he’ll carry his brother to his room, especially when Todd thought that there were monsters in his own bedroom.
“Well there’s no monsters in my room,” Jeff reassures his little brother, whose bottom lip is quivering with tears streaming down his face. “C’mon, you can sleep there tonight. You’ll be safe with me, don’t worry.”
Struggled with a stutter and didn’t talk loud enough for people to hear him. It became frustrating for his parents, so his mother just told him to “let Jeff do the talking.”
Didn’t have any real friends at Balincrest, but Todd was used to that already. He was so miserable there because of how much he was bullied due to his timidness.
Turned to smoking and drinking as a way to make himself feel better, but ironically people liked to be around him at parties since he was much more “fun” when under the influence of alcohol.
Only Jeff knows about this. Well, maybe Mrs. Anderson, too, but she sort of turned a blind eye to it all.
Genuinely doesn’t like the taste of alcohol, but needs some way to numb the misery. Actually, Todd stops drinking once he gets to Welton because he finds real friends and no longer feels the need to self-medicate.
CHARLES E. DALTON
Charlie looks like his mother, sounds like his mother, and acts like his mother. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with. It was never once doubted that he was mummy’s favorite son, even if he wasn’t the firstborn.
It is well known that Charlie inherited his rebellious nature from his mom. Whenever he gets into trouble, his dad will look to Mrs. Dalton with a defeated expression and say: “That’s your son.”
Charlie’s mom couldn’t be any more prouder in him than when he does something that reminds people of her. That’s her mini me, after all.
He has three older siblings—two older brothers and a sister. Charlie has a complicated relationship with his eldest brother, Lowell, who is eight years his senior, because he’s always trying to act like their dad.
Extremely tired of Lowell’s pretentious bullshit and considers him a pain in the ass. The brothers clash a lot, especially when Charlie is home from Welton for the holidays.
Dalton family gatherings are soo fun (that was sarcasm btw)
Charlie also has a little sister, who is such a goofball. That girl drives their dad up a wall because of how much chaos she causes around the house, but Char adores her.
The Daltons have a pool in their backyard but Charlie prefers going to a public pool so that he can stare a hot women in their bathing suits.
Charlie’s parents are complete polar opposites—his father is sort of rigid and impassive, whilst Mrs. Dalton is quite vibrant and outspoken.
Mr. Dalton’s parents actually tried to prevent him from marrying Charlie’s mom. They claimed that she “wasn’t the right fit” and saw her progressive mindset as unpredictable.
He’s of English, Norwegian, Dutch, and Swedish descent. The Daltons themselves are from England and have been living in the United States since the mid-to-late 1600s. All the other ethnicities accumulated overtime through people who married into the Dalton family.
Charlie was the type of kid to go outside barefoot and stand on concrete during the hottest heatwave imaginable. Most of the time he just wanted to test his pain tolerance.
That boy gets blisters on his feet every time.
Started raiding his dad’s liquor cabinet by the time he was twelve.
When Charlie was younger and his parents used to host fancy dinner parties, he loved to find good places to hide—whether that be underneath a table, behind the couch, inside of a closet—just so he could jump out and scare guests.
KNOX T. OVERSTREET
Grew up as a mama’s boy, making a habit of clinging to Mrs. Overstreet’s skirts and following her around wherever she went.
Compared to the other Poets, Knox had a good relationship with both of his parents and was raised in what could only be described as a healthy atmosphere.
Knox’s mom’s name is either Dolores or Irene.
He has four sisters—three are older, one is younger. Closest with his younger sister, Celia, who is three years her brother’s junior.
Knox is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent.
As a child, his mom would let him play with her jewelry and practice walking in her heels.
Knox took a lot of visits to his dad’s law firm when he was younger just so that Mr. Overstreet could show him what he’d be taking over once he was old enough.
“The boy has to learn the ropes early so that he can properly manage the firm when I retire.” —said by Mr. Overstreet.
So, yes, Knox’s dad did have certain expectations that he required him to meet, but he wasn’t going to force his son into something he wasn’t ready for yet.
Gentle mentorship played a key role in getting Knox prepared for his future, so he didn’t harbor too much stress.
Knows how to braid hair because of his sisters. He is surprisingly good at it.
All of Knox’s sisters also used to dress him up as a princess whenever they wanted to play a fantasy game. Did he sometimes also get assigned the role of a noble knight tasked to rescue the distressed maidens? Yes, of course he did. But as a kid he just wanted to be included so it didn’t matter what he was.
Knox’s parents didn’t care if their son wore a dress, had makeup on his face, or played with girl’s toys (well his father cared a bit but it was kinda unpreventable because he and his son were living in a female dominated household).
STEVEN K.C. MEEKS JR.
Steven’s dad is an architect and the funniest guy on the planet. He’s a really bubbly person, always telling dad jokes that end up making everybody in the room laugh no matter how stupid the joke is.
Before Meeks and his siblings were born, their parents loved to travel and collect all sorts of treasures from different countries. Carpets, paintings, furniture, vases, candles, books, statues—all very expensive and hard to come by.
Part of me feels like his mom’s name is either Jacqueline or Phyllis, but neither of those names are really set in stone for me.
Steve’s home is kinda funky looking because it doesn’t really stick to one aesthetic. In fact, you could walk into a room and one wall could be painted brown, whilst the wall opposite of it could be painted green.
Both Meeks and his siblings are encouraged by their parents to pursue their passions, so they get to choose whatever life pathway is best for them.
Outside of school, Stevie wears mismatched socks. He is a very organized person so this is a conscious choice that he makes.
Steven is the third-eldest of his siblings. He has two older siblings: Reginald (5-year age gap) and Loretta (3-year age gap) — referred to as the “A-Team” by Mr. and Mrs. Meeks since they were born first.
Him and his younger brother Franklin (5-year age gap) are referred to as the “B-Team” since they are the youngest of the bunch.
All of the Meeks children look like their mom, but Mr. Meeks doesn’t really mind because he gets to see his wife’s beautiful face in every single one of his children.
He’s the only one of the Dead Poets who doesn’t refer to Pitts by his last name. Instead, Steven calls him “Ger”, “Jerry”, or “Gary”.
Does smoke the occasional cigarette, but only when he’s on a stroll outside or when somebody offers him a drag.
i can feel my monkees hyperfixation starting to wear off but before it fully goes i need to say no current boy band can claim to be the best until they also get put on an fbi watchlist for "spreading left wing ideology" and make a psychedelic art film about the evils of capitalism and the military industrial complex
the bard strikes again! lmk what you think of these :)
knox and Pitts are ADDICTED to the smell of suncream, to the point that its the reason why they don't burn (they spend their lives reapplying every 10 minutes just to catch a whiff of that sweet sweet smell.)
neil tans beautifully, the rest of the poets all burn so bad that they look like lobsters at the end of each beach sesh
Charlie and Cameron have HORRIBLE rowing tan lines because they spend so much time on the water during summer in their outfits (costumes? wetsuits? idk guys im not a rower). they get SO MUCH SHIT from the other poets for it.
knox, despite being a natural burner, is addicted to trying to get a tan, and so is Charlie. they both argue that it makes them more attractive (no one but them notices a difference since their tans are so subtle, but they treat every shade change like the key to biggest glow up ever)
Charlie, pitts, and todd prefer the pool; neil, Cameron, meeks, and knox all prefer the beach. neil has to beg todd to take beach days because he hates the sand feeling.
when they were kids, Charlie and neil took a beach day with their families together. Charlie knocked Neil's meticulously made sand castle over, and ever since then Charlie hasn't been allowed anywhere NEAR any sand structures made by neil.
they have a tradition where they get ice cream after every beach visit! here are their favourite flavours:
Neil: chocolate, Todd: mint choc chip, Charlie: strawberry, Knox: Coffee, Meeks: Salted Caramel, Cameron: also strawberry (this pisses Charlie off really bad cause Cameron is 'copying everything he does'.), Pitts: lemon sorbet
Charlie unabashedly stares at knox whenever he takes his shirt off at the beach. some say their PDA gets even worse during summer, despite the heat
todd HATES the heat so much that he carries around one of those little hand-held fans everywhere he goes. he charges 2 dollars for 3 minutes use. in the month of July alone, he made almost 200 dollars.
in summer, knox gets painfully sweaty hands. Charlie swears he doesn't mind but even so, knox leaves wet patches wherever his hands go.
even in the sweltering heat, neil wants to cuddle in the evenings. todd refuses vehemently, but he permits pinky holding.
during summer, Charlie and neil paint their nails matching colours! as a group, they always buy a cute matching summer bracelet for each of them to remember that summer :)
knox and Charlie, despite being together, go out clubbing together and do a little cheeky flirting. they like to pretend its their anniversary at bars to get free drinks.
the poets like eating dinner at the beach and watching the sunset :) they're also always commissioned to take photos of Chris and ginny, who often demand sunset pics every visit!!
as ever, pls let me know if you want more!!! (im making more knarlie ones soon cuz we gotta keep the community alive)
house is gay in a “i woke up one day and i realized i like men” way while wilson is gay in a catholic guilt repressed tormented fighting demons denial suffering mentally ill kind of way
You read fluffy, cute and absolutely adorable fics on ao3 about how neil is alive and they have apartment and Todd's a writer. They both are whipped for eo. They have adopted a cat, you see, everything's happy nothing hurts. You come on this app and there's a very random post on random Tuesday starting w "when neil shot himself..." BRO LET ME LIVE.
In my opinion, one of the saddest things about *Dead Poets Society* is not knowing what happened to all the characters in the end. Because what do you mean that I’ll never know the fate of the poets and Professor Keating? Did he manage to keep teaching despite the serious accusations leveled against him? Were Todd and the others expelled after saluting Keating with "O Captain! My Captain!"? I WANT TO KNOW, AND IT DRIVES ME CRAZY.
