And I would fall asleep midway and wake up giggling and kicking my feet asking him what page I fell asleep on just so I could pick a fight when he doesn't know. Except it's Caleb so he would know. And that would make me mad as well.

Youโd been on the bed for a while, flat on your back, doing nothing in particular. Xavier was at his desk doing the quiet, focused kind of nothing that looked like everything, eyes on the screen, completely still except for the occasional blink. You watched the back of his head for a moment before you said it.
โXavier.โ
โYes?โ
โCome lie on me.โ
The typing stopped. He turned his head, not fully, just enough to look at you sideways. โLie on you?โ
โYeah. Full body. I want the pressure.โ
He pushed back from the desk and approached the bed, pausing at the edge to look down at you, then at the available space, then at you again.
โFace up or down?โ he asked.
โWhat?โ
โDo you want my faceโโ
โJust โ however. Come on.โ
When he lowered himself down it was carefulโboth forearms coming to rest on either side of you first, taking his own weight before he let it drop slowly. His face ended up tucked against your neck, which didnโt seem to be something heโd planned, but he didnโt adjust it. The solid press of him settled over you immediatelyโwarm, grounding, real in the way that things with actual weight always were. He fit against you more naturally than either of you expected.
His breathing evened out quickly. He didnโt fidget.
You moved your hand up into his hair without really thinking about it, and you could feel the small, almost the way his body loosened at the touchโenough that you nearly laughed.
โYouโre going to fall asleep,โ you pointed out.
โI am,โ he agreed.
You scratched gently at his scalp and felt the quiet, involuntary way he pressed closer.
Neither of you moved for a long time after that.

Heโd been standing at the kitchen counter reading through case notes when you came and leaned in the doorway. He didnโt look up, but the slight shift in his posture said heโd clocked you.
โCome lie down with me.โ
โIโm in the middle of something.โ Still not looking up.
โZayne. Put it down.โ
He did look up then. His gaze moved over your face. Then he set the papers down, stacked them, and came.
He sat on the edge of the bed first, his fingers brushing your ankle as he passed. Then he positioned himself with one arm sliding beneath you rather than leaving you flat, and his weight settled inโchest to chest, one leg draped over yours, his arm drawing across your back in a hold that was firm without being tight. He didnโt overthink the arrangement. He just settled, like heโd decided exactly how this was going to go before he even lay down.
โYour shoulders are tense,โ he said.
โI know.โ
Without fanfare, he reached up and pressed his thumb into the base of your neck, working a slow, deliberate circle. His mouth brushed your hairline, his nose nuzzling lightly against your skin. Then his hand moved once along your sideโa slow drag from shoulder to waistโand stilled again, tucked around you like it belonged there.
Outside, rain had started against the window, faint and steady.
โAnything happen?โ
โNo. Justโโ You exhaled. โNothing. I just wanted this.โ
You turned your face into his jaw, and he turned his into your hair, and the case notes stayed folded on the counter for the rest of the evening.

Heโd been following you around the apartment for the better part of an hour for no discernible reasonโpicking things up, setting them back down, asking questions he didnโt wait for answers to. When you finally sat down on the bed, he appeared in the doorway within seconds, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed.
You looked at him. โCome here and lie down on me.โ
He pointed at himself. โYou want me to justโฆ land on you?โ
โYes.โ
โLike, fully?โ
โYes, Rafayel. Fully.โ
He grinned, pushed off the doorframe, and made his way over. He flopped down onto you with a small bounce and then wriggled around adjusting himself until he was comfortable, which took longer than it needed to. He shifted his arms twice, nudged your shoulder with his nose, shifted againโand then finally, finally, went still. His face pressed into the side of your neck and stayed there, completely unapologetic about his weight.
โOkay,โ he announced. โIโm here. Iโve arrived.โ
โYou really have.โ
The weight of him was warm, and he had absolutely no intention of movingโobvious from the way his entire body went lax within about thirty seconds.
He went quiet. That lasted another thirty seconds before asking, โAm I doing it right?โ
โYouโre not doing anything, youโre just lying there.โ
โIโm providing a service,โ he said, muffled against your neck.
You laughed, and he made a smug noise against your collarbone. His lips pressed to the side of your throat. Then again, a little higher.
โRafayel.โ
โWhat? Iโm just lying here.โ

You looked at him across the room and said, โCome here and lie down on me.โ
He looked at you. That attention of his settled over you and stayed there, and the faint curve at the corner of his mouth told you heโd already decided before heโd even moved.
โYou want me, hm?โ he asked, wanting to hear you say it.
โI did just say that.โ
He crossed the room without a word and stood over you for a momentโjust long enough to make you feel itโbefore he came down. One hand braced beside your head as he lowered his weight gradually, like he was giving you the chance to change your mind. The pressure of him arrived in stages; his chest against yours, his legs along yours, and then his face, finally level with your own.
He was warm and heavy, and he looked at you from this close without looking away. His hand moved from beside your head to your faceโjust the backs of his fingers, dragged slowly from your temple to your jaw, the touch so deliberate it barely felt like it counted.
Then he dropped his head. His lips pressed to your cheekbone and stayed. Move to your temple. Then his face tucked alongside yours, jaw against jaw, and he exhaled slowly against your skin like heโd been holding something and had only just let it go.
His eyes were still open. โBetter?โ
โGetting there.โ
The amusement had mostly left his face. โYou could have just said you wanted me close.โ
โYouโd have enjoyed that too much.โ
He hummed. โAnd this Iโm not enjoying?โ
One arm wrapped beneath you. The hold was closeโcloser than the moment asked for, the kind of closeness that was its own answer to a question neither of you had said out loud.
His thumb traced your side, once. Then stilled.

โLie on me.โ
He grinned. โLie on you?โ
โFull body. Right now.โ
โSo you want me to justโโ He gestured vaguely between the two of you.
โCaleb.โ
โIโm doing it, Iโm doing it. Activating blanket mode.โ He dropped onto the bed like it was the most natural thing heโd ever been asked, swung himself over you, and settled his weight down with no hesitation. One arm slid beneath your shoulders, the other spread flat across your back and pressed you gently in toward him as the rest of him came down. He was solid and warm, and he fit himself to you so easily it almost felt rehearsed.
You could feel the moment he actually settledโsome tension in his shoulders that heโd been carrying all day quietly releasing, his body going heavier and softer at once. His thumb moved at your side, slow and rhythmic, not quite thinking about it.
A beat of silence.
โIs it working?โ he asked.
โYouโve been on me for four seconds.โ
โRight, right.โ He lasted another ten before his hand moved to your forehead, fingers brushing across it slowly. His thumb traced the edge of your ear.
โYou do this thing,โ he said, voice dropping a little, โwhere you donโt ask for things until you really need them.โ
You didnโt answer.
His arms tightened, pulling you further in. โI donโt mind. You can just say so.โ He pressed his mouth to your temple and held it there a moment too long to be casual. โAnytime.โ
The word landed somewhere it was meant to. You turned your face slightly toward him and felt him smile against your skin before he tucked his chin back down.
Caleb's food tastes different. It's amazing, but it's almost as if he can never get the flavor quite the same as he used to.
He's a lot moodier. He's always been a little hot-blooded when it came to MC's safety. But before the explosion, he was able to hide it better. Now, his bad moods linger underneath fake smiles. He laughs while his eyes are an unending storm.
His touch is firmer. He doesn't realize he's doing it. His grip is too tight and sometimes his hugs hurt a little.
He never talks about his interests anymore. It's always about what MC wants and how MC feels. When old interests are mentioned he shrugs them off. It's as if he's forgotten how to enjoy anything outside of MC.
On that note, Caleb recalls memories of him and MC with perfect clarity yet hardly mentions memories of anyone else, especially Josephine.
He's openly possessive. Pre-explosion, he gave himself plausible deniability. The new Caleb, however, doesn't bother hiding it.
When MC brings up certain places or people, it's like a switch flips. Caleb gets cold and cagey, seemingly at random. He switches back just as easily.
During arguments, Caleb is either deflecting with humor or trying to intimidate MC with vague phrases that don't make sense.
So, uh... my first LADS fanart. I'm currently playing around with my art style, and idk, apparently my brain settled on... this. I need to change some parts of his facial features, but I'm mostly drawing this for funsies so... yeah lol.
