Bridge and Light room Review Evaluation

At the start of the year i would usually go straight to light room to import my photos before taking them to Photoshop because to me bridge was confusing but as the year went on i started to use bridge more because of the review mode and its much easier to star rate the images in bridge. 

As for the exporting its pretty much the same process of picking where to put your images and changing the size of the resolution. Although for bridge at first it was easy to miss the export button because its down at the bottom of the editing tab when you expect it to be similar to the light room export button. 

As for editing i would pick light room because it does offer a bit more than bridge, light room allows you to get filter for the app. For example, vsco cam the popular editing app for phones gives presets for light room. But you do have to pay a lot for them as they are 59 dollars which is 46 pounds. If you’re using light room a lot then its worth the money as the filters do look good.

Comparing the two i would say they are quite similar with the import and export stages its only the editing and the way to rate your images are different.

Lightroom Review

when you first open up lightroom there is an import button where you can go through all your folders/photos and either tick all of them to be imported or select the ones you want. Lightroom doesn’t offer the review mode like bridge does. It does give you a bigger picture- seen as above.  To edit your photos you click on the develop button on the top right side of the app. The editing isn’t as advanced as Photoshop but it is good to do a simple edit. As for exporting there is a button down on the left beside the import but the only problem is you have to keep going in between the library and develop tabs whilst editing and exporting photos.

Emulate and create 

1950-1990 Nan Goldin 

I decided to edit this photo of a drag queen getting ready to fit it with the Nan Goldin research as a lot of her work involved drag queens and the LGBT community. For this image i edited it to look like it was taken on a film camera as Nan Goldin uses film for her pictures. To get this look i went onto photoshop and then onto the Nik Collection and played around with the filters. Although her photo’s have have more of a blue tinge to them i decided that the blue in the photo doesn’t look right in the edit and so i played around with the browns and soft colours suited the image more. This is something i would do again to my photo’s if i was looking for a vintage theme.

Gertrude Kasebier- 1900-1950′s 

I chose this photo to edit for my emulate and create because in black and white it looks very 1950′s and so i thought it would fit for the time period. For this image i used a filter from the NIK collection to get the faded border and the faint dust and scratches. I also changed the hue/saturation. Although i like how the photo has turned out i’m not sure i would recreate this look again the blacks look too green and i’m not the biggest fan on the brown tint.

Emulate and Create;

1839-1900 Cyanotype.

to recreate a cyanotype image i searched on google for tutorials and managed to find one that was easy to follow. Although the base of cyanotype is blue, i think its much harder to recreate on photoshop and have it look right. If i was to create this again i would probably want to do the original cyanotype rather than on photoshop.

Places Evaluation Painting with light: A weakness for this studio painting with light image is the pink and blue light isn’t as vibrant as i would have liked and for the blue light i wish it was more visible like the pink lighting. A strength is how clear the model face is in between the lights. The next photo was on location, a strength is the crop of the image as the plant is the main focus in the image and there isn't anything distracting you and I like how it sort of cuts the top of plant and it fills the photo. A weakness is in the background you can see more of the plant and to get a perfect painting with light shot that would have to be completely dark. For continuous light I thought I would try something different other than doing a light trail of cars so I came up with a disco ball because I liked the different colours and thought the light trail would be bright and bold. A weakness is how on the left side the colours didn't really show up as mush as the right side but this is probably because of the dark wall so if I was trying this again I would have a brighter background. Another weakness is the shine in the middle of the blue colour. A strength is that it shows the light trail as originally the disco ball is different coloured dots and it's worked well on the ball as the trails are the same block of colour. Group Shots: The first shot is taken in a car park and the style I was going for was a band group shot with the low light and guitar. A weakness would be the shadows you can see in the background so next time I have learned to bring them further away from the wall. A strength is the colours in the photo all go together there isn't any standing out and how they are posed they look like a band. The second group photo was taken in a tunnel and weakness is how you can see the reflection of the flash in the wall behind. A strength in the photo is how they aren't all looking straight down in the camera. I think it draws your attention to the photo to see what they're all doing and looking at. The last group shot a strength is how there's a slight golden glow in the picture and how it's falling onto the faces. Also how they are all similarly posed the same and looking towards the same direction. A weakness is the shadow on the right side which could have been fixed with a reflector and on my part I should have posed them somewhere the sun wasn't in front of them as it was hard for them to not squint.

Window Light Research: 

I took to Instagram to look for window light images as i know i would find inspiration there from selfies to professional photos. The type of look i want to go for is patterns and blocks of light falling onto the face.

Research for illustrative and creative product photography. There wasn't many photos of squashies and I found it hard to find inspiration for the creative side of it but I decided I like the simple look of the sweets scattered outside of the package. I also researched lighting and what's best for the product.

For this i wanted the picture to bring out the colour, so i added vibrancy to bring out the blue and yellow in the van. I also upped the brightness because i thought the background was dull.

Saturation was added and i added more yellow to make the lights stand out, i also lowered the light but only slightly.

For this picture i played around with the red colour to make it stand out in the picture and upped the brightness to make the sky a little less dark than it is.
