That simple thought made Leah laugh, but with it came a sob that escaped before she could stop it. They were the sweetest babies in the world, and she loved them fiercely. But she'd let them down. Where had she been while they were pouring out their love into painting? When they wanted to see her and she'd cancelled time and time again?

Home. Covering her bruises. Wiping her tears. Putting on a smile as though that could change anything, but desperate to diffuse the tension after she and Chase had disagreed.

He'd disagreed. With what she was wearing, or what she'd made for lunch, or the fact she was evern thinking of going somewhere without telling him, asking for permission. At the time, it had drip fed into normality. Now, though, away from that situation, the dark bubble popped, she could feel differently.

She could feel anger. At herself, yes, for allowing it to go on the way it did. But at him too, for treating her that way.

Leah reached for Amelia's cheek, wiping away the lingering trace of tears even while her own face was still streaked.

There was little attempt to hide his staring, an unmistakable wizard stood leaning on his staff and observing the woman in court. There was a neutrality to his expression but Gandalf did have the bad habit of using such stares to bring himself to the attention of someone he wished to speak to. Amelia it seemed had fallen into that category, she at least had the stare as a form of a warning that once Théoden was done speaking, she was who he was going to approach. That time came and he made a steady but obvious b-line for her.

"You are new to this court," he pointed out without a greeting, leaning on his staff again and observing her with considerable thought. Where was her mother if she had taken her place? No doubt passed but Gandalf thought better than to assume. "You are part of the House of Bach are you not?"

"I might find myself wishing it were in your nature if I will have to keep asking you to rest." He was glad when she did not let pride get in the way for sitting down and resting, though he smiled for the comment on the other healers. "Your wound would have crippled any other it might have been inflicted upon, it seems the strength of Rohan lies deep within you," a quick check of his eyes where she was holding her healing wound and Elrond relaxed that bit more. "A few more days of rest," one of his eyebrows cocked to emphasise it, "and you will be able to return home."

it may seem a grand act to her; to the sacred families -- how many centuries have these bloodlines been kept in stasis, forever unchaning, forever complacant. so gaunt did what a young god does best; bring change and a breath of fresh air. to his credit, at least, for the sake of a friend more than to irk the sacred families.

he will not see amelia wither away among dust and candlelight, he will not see her soaked in blood. if by his will and want, he will see her grow old; greatness accomplished, surrounded by grandchildren, if she so wished. and he would be there, untouched by time and death's cold hands, he would live forever to see his loved ones be picked off one by one. death, that old butcher, would bother him no more.

he has made peace with her death -- but not yet.

❝ i will not claim what i am planning to do is idle and mundane. ❞ nothing rhaegar gaunt had ever done could be labelled as such, the winged mountain soaring above, his dreams and desire manifest, greater and grander than the likes of worldserpents, proved as much.

plans within plans -- and he would not deny that the creative vice had always been there; to make a fool of the old families claiming themselves untouchable. to remove just one from the mantle of great lords showed clearly that none of them were as invincible as they imagined themselves to be -- to elevate another, so called, lesser, house was salt in the wound. how saccharine sweet the thought came to him: why not do both? humilliate vain, old witches and wizards, and help one of his oldest friends?

he wanted her to be free of these age old shackles. he wanted to have played a grand role in it, too.

❝ i have yet to list all my points. ❞ he agrees, it would be a shame to not walk down the entire list, he muses with a tilt of his head. ❝ and if that doesn't work calling down nagini would surely do the trick. ❞ confronting them with the winged mountain's trenchant maw did make the noble families bow very quickly. their lives more important than ancient pride. and the gargantuan she-beast above chirps and roars -- as if she had miracolously overheard their conversation from above pregnant clouds. ❝ all of these i will accept and treassure -- but it is your continous friendship i seek the most. ❞
