âOh, I am.â Remus feigned confidence with a playful smirk. He decided not to remind Ted that he was acing his classes because he spent the majority of his free time studying. Unlike most people he knew, attending school was something he had never thought possible and that meant wasting the opportunity simply wasnât an option. People were always going to judge him, if he wanted a life after Hogwarts, he needed good grades. âSometimes you need to put other people before yourself, sometimes you arenât ready to face things. It can be a healthy distraction- or an unhealthy one, I suppose. Is it making you feel worse?â He mused. He hadnât known Bertram personally and the attack was constantly playing on his mind. He could only imagine how terrible it would be if he had known the boy, how much worseâŠÂ âAre you ready to start putting yourself first, Ted?âÂ
âItâs a wonder Dumbledore isnât knocking on your door every night to ask you for advice,â he continued. âOr is he?â Remus was one of the more dedicated students that Ted knew. And while Ted admired that about the boy, he couldnât quite bring himself to spend that much time with his nose in the books. Heâd started to change that this year, started to work on putting classes above his social life, work on earning a spot in the Ministry instead of just hoping for one. âNo, I know. And itâs always been my problem -- indulging myself in other peopleâs lives and not spending enough time trying to understand my own. Itâs not making me feel worse, necessarily. I just know Iâm not giving myself enough time to work through my own... stuff. I donât know. Itâs something Iâm not really used to.â
