The level of frightened distress these animations have portrayed: Little Natah curled into Wally, jumping when Wally raises its voice, her trembling eyes, the panic at being removed from someone who, at that point, was the most familiar presence in the room.

She's not just a Sentient infant, she is an infant who is already severely traumatized.

It's no surprise that Lotus was so willing to take Wally's deal, to sacrifice her memories, to kill herself for the Tenno. She was already suffering the moment she was pulled from the manifold.

The incredible part? Their mutual reluctance to leave each other.

The Indifference is already learning to care.

We're happy to give you a rundown!

1. In JSC, Hunhow mentions that he is making the same sacrifice Natah did: trading their memories of their past selves to the Indifference.

2. Hunhow now suffers from memory loss because the Indifference has taken his memories. The TennoLive demo has confirmed that Natah has gone through the same fate: her memories of her past, including her infancy, now belong to the Indifference.

3. This is being symbolized by Natah's appearance as her past self, her Baby Beetle Form, cradled in the Indifference's grasp. Wally holds Natah's childhood memories, and they are being personified as a Little Sentient Beetle Baby.

4. The Drifter's role in this cutscene is NOT to undo the deal that Lotus made, ie, the deal to watch over the Tenno forever by sacrificing her childhood memories. The Drifter's role was to convince Wally to give Lotus a refund. When Wally let go of Baby Lotus, it was returning Lotus' past memories to her, hence freeing this part of her from the Indifference.

5. Now, Drifter has convinced Wally to leave Lotus alone until they can all get to Tau. Lotus now has all of her true memories returned to her, which she and the Operator need in order to navigate to Tau.

Conclusion: Lotus is safe and her childhood memories have been personified as her Beetle Baby Form. Wally may or may not have learned something from holding Baby Lotus in its arms for who knows how long.
