SELENA hoped that eventually things would return back to normal for the two of them. hell, she even wondered if maybe someday the four of them would be able to hang out and not feel awkward. “ i get that she’s protective of you, really i do. demi’s the exact same way with me. ” selena admitted. “ i just don’t want her hating me forever. i mean, she got what she wanted right? she got you. ” she admitted with a shrug before giving harley a smile. “ demi’s an angel, honestly. she looks tough and can definitely hold her own, but she’s literally the sweetest person alive if you give her the chance to be. ” selena told harley with a smile. when harley sat down on the couch, selena walked over and carefully sat down next to her – keep some distance but not too much. “ i really was happy. demi and i were finally able to be honest with the world and not have to hide who we were. ” she admitted with a grin. “ but i’m sorry that it made things weird for you, and i’m sorry that i avoided you. ”
“She won’t hate you forever. She just, Demi wouldn’t be my biggest fan if I hurt you. She’ll get over it eventually.” Harley had no doubt that her girlfriend would eventually be fine. She just had to adjust to everything first. “She’s definitely cool. I’ve been trying to convince her that I don’t hate her,” Harley said with a slight laugh. Demi was so worried that the blonde would be mad at her. It was rather endearing really. “Why did you avoid me,” she asked with a tilt of her head. “And don’t use Eve as an excuse because multiple people pulled me away.”

“ glad to know i’m not the only one. ” selena admitted with a nervous laugh as she rubbed the back of her neck. she knew that she of all people shouldn’t feel weird being around harley since she was the one that had caused all of this tension in the first place, but she couldn’t help it. there was a part of selena that would always love harley and there was no denying that. at the mention of eve coming over, selena sighed softly. “ i kinda figured she’d be here at some point, hence why i’m not staying. ” the brunette admitted. while she and harley were able to be civil, eve was another story entirely. “ yeah, it was weird – but i can’t exactly say much. pretty sure you weren’t too thrilled to see me hanging all over demi either. ”
Harley sighed as she listened to Selena talk. The woman in front of her was one of her best friends. It felt terrible to be so weird and distant with each other. “I know things with Eve are hard right now, but she’s just protective and possessive when it comes to me more than just about anyone,” she explained with a small smile. “She’ll come around eventually. The longer you’re with Demi the more it’ll help. She’s really sweet by the way. She came up to me at the awards.” Harley walked them further into the house and plopped on the couch. She sat with her legs crossed and waited to see if Selena would join her. “I was glad that I saw you happy. I mean, that’s what I want for you. It was a little weird and some not so kind feelings came up, but I got through.”

SELENA wasn’t even sure if harley was going to answer the door – not that she would blame her if she didn’t. selena deserved to be ignored like harley had been a few nights prior. however, when harley did answer the door, selena looked up at her with a smile before stepping inside the house. “ when has your house being a mess ever bothered me? ” she asked softly as she looked around. she immediately noticed the little things that she knew didn’t belong to harley and she couldn’t deny it made her uncomfortable – but she wouldn’t admit that. “ look, i don’t have stay long. i just came to apologize for avoiding you the other night. you and eve didn’t deserve that.. ”
“Never, but I guess you’re not the only one who feels a little awkward,” she said with a small chuckle. Being around Selena was hard simply because she didn’t know how to act. Their break up was so sudden, and both of them had moved on in what felt like a blink of an eye. Harley knew she had some negative feelings somewhere about how everything went down with the singer, but she didn’t see any point in bringing them to light. She’d deal and get past them in her own time. “I’m not going to kick you out of my house. I mean, I don’t know when Eve is getting here, but you’re fine. I mean, I get why you would, I guess. Seeing us together was probably weird for you.”

THE awards had been a night of roller coaster emotions for selena. she was glad that she’d finally been able to be public with demi and not have to lie to the world, but she’d also been a little hurt at the fact that she and harley hadn’t returned to normal yet. seeing harley with eve out in the open didn’t exactly help either. unintentionally, selena had pretty much avoided eve and harley for most of the night – something she felt horrible about now. she knew that harley had probably noticed her avoiding her and she knew that she had to apologize for it if they were ever going to be okay again. that’s why she found herself currently walking up the front steps of harley’s place before doing her unique knock on the front door and waiting for the blonde to hopefully answer.
The break for the blonde’s show had started, and she couldn’t have been happier for the timing. It allowed she and Eve to have a lot of time together and for them to get all the logistics and meetings done for the movie they were going to be in. The taller brunette was currently off meeting with the big honchos of the show, so she was just tidying around the house and listening to some music. She stopped when she heard an all too familiar knock on the door and furrowed her brow slightly. Selena dropping by wasn’t something she expected since the singer had avoided her so much at the awards. With a shrug, she walked over to the door and opened it. “Hey, Sel,” she said with a smile before opening the door wider. “Come in, come in. I’m sorry if it’s a little messy. I haven’t really had time to clean as much as usual.” Harley would of course notice the small things that belonged to Eve around the house. There was a sweater on the couch, a book on the coffee table, and just little knick knacks, but she didn’t know if Selena would pick up on it and how awkward that could make things.

“Yeah but I didn’t think it was for that!” she said shaking her head with a laugh and ran her hand through her hair. “Well did you like the reaction I had?” she teased now, shaking her head. “We will….It sounds so fun.” she said imagining all the interviews, all the time they’ll get to spend together and how that will look on screen. She wrapped her arms around Harley keeping her close and smiled into the kiss. It felt so right having Harley in her arms. “We have to?” she pouted. “Casue I don’t wanna. I wanna take you away and get that dress off you.” Eve said licking her lips. “Full mom mode? What did she say?” she asked but then nodded about the comment on Dianna. She knew a bit about Lea and Dianna, enough to know it wasn’t her place to say shit about whatever was happening between the two of them.
Hearing that Selena was here made her skin crawl. She was not, and would not, be okay with the singer for a while, even if Harley was. She just was to protective over her girlfriend and to angry to yet talk to her. “Well–” she shook her head and chuckled. “You did–and it was cute that you said that on stage, I was about as red as that woman’s dress over there.” she teased motioning to a woman nearby. “I love you too.” she said winking to her girlfriend. “I don’t know what I did to deserve someone so cute and precious as you.” she said pulling Harley even closer. “If that’s the case, then I will be as loving and–well how I am in a relationship.” she paused. “But I’m gonna hold you too the whole not scaring you off thing.”
“Ah, see what happens when you don’t ask clarifying questions,” she asked teasingly. The blonde was excited for the role before she found out she’d be playing opposite of Eve. Now, she was just over the moon about it. To play across from someone as talented as the brunette was a crazy opportunity, and she couldn’t wait to see Eve in front of a camera again. “I did, yes, and this is going to be a lot of fun. Acting like I’m in love with you will probably be my easiest assignment yet,” she answered with a nod. Filming would be starting in a few weeks when they had a break from the show between seasons. A lot of the filming would be done in LA, but some of it will require some traveling together which she’s excited for. “You know I won’t say no to you taking us home for that,” she said with a smile. Her resolve when it came to Eve was pretty nonexistent. The fact that they hadn’t just holed up at her house for days yet was impressive to say the least. “Oh, she freaked over me getting an award. I thought she was going to pinch my cheeks. I swear,” she said with a shake of her head, but the smile she was wearing was clear as day. She loved Lea and appreciated that the woman had so willingly wanted to fill the void her mother left in her life.
“I hope someone got a picture of that blush because that’s pretty epic,” she teased lightly. Harley made no moves to move out of Eve’s embrace. She was comfortable there, and the more she saw of the relationship side of Eve the more she liked it. Harley liked how sexy Eve got when she was possessive, how she could take charge more often than not, and how lovey she was. The hopeless romantic aspect of her was in full swing, and that was just wonderful to see from the girl who hadn’t dated seriously in years. “You were you, and that’s all you’ve gotta be. You deserve all of this and so much more, so buckle up for some romancing. You’re not the only hopeless romantic in this relationship.” Harley wasn’t one to just sit back and let someone else do all the work. Usually she was the one taking care of the other person in her relationships, but she could totally go with a little balance. “You don’t have to worry about me, Eve. You fell in love with your best friend. I’m not going anywhere.”

Demi had made a point to come back home from her tour just to go to the show. Selena wanted her there and she wanted to spend time with her girlfriend and show her off. With her girlfriend off talking to some friends Demi lingered around looking for people she knew as well. After spending some time talking to Lea and Dianna she spotted a familiar blonde getting herself a drink. She felt horrible about all that had happened but knew that she needed to go talk to Harley. So, mustering up her courage she strolled over to Harley and tapped her on the shoulder. “Hey.” she said softly, a delicate smile on her lips.

Harley had just finished talking with Lea and let the woman go find a particular woman when she heard the greeting from a familiar voice. Sure, they weren’t the greatest of friends before, but Harley knew enough of the woman and had heard her enough to recognize the voice. When she turned to face her, she was wearing a smile on her face because she was very glad that they had been able to run into each other despite their schedules being crazy. “Hey,” Harley replied happily. “I’m glad you were able to make it. I’m sure Selena feels better about being here with you around. How was your last show?”

The fact that Lea was essentially an exposed nerve for the most part wasn’t all that bad, she had learned how to handle her emotions and how to live her life in a productive way. Writing away, not wanting it all down but refusing to keep it in. It was only when it came to the subject of Dianna and Cory, separately and together, that she got all choked up and folded into herself, suddenly the skill she hand honed over the years disappeared. Unable to be of any use. “I don’t want to spark another fight. I get all tripped up and Lord, as many nights as I’ve spent wanting to talk it over with her, the thought of it terrifying.” She explained to Harley with a shrug, chuckling softly at her not wanting to hear what would happen at Dianna’s house. Harley wasn’t wrong though, their communication had been shit, Lea had gotten to a point where she just didn’t want to talk anymore because it would cause another argument, another night where she wouldn’t sleep at home, another tearful call to her mom. It just didn’t seem worth it. Perhaps Dianna had felt that way too, but without question, their lack of communication skills lead to their demise. “Well, I’ll be here forever, kiddo. Can’t get rid of me. She does? Good, cause I can’t handle another strained relationship.” She admitted, spending time with Harley and Selena had been exhausting for her. Needing to be kind was exhausting but while Harley and Eve at first where a ‘what the fuck’ she’d rather them than the latter. “Well, yeah, how could it not be? You’re dating her ex-girlfriend who is your best friend but somehow those two never clicked.”
The blonde laughed because she completely understood what Lea meant. She hated fighting. Harley was terrible at it. While Lea was an exposed nerve, Harley was the complete opposite. She held things in too well to the point where it could destroy her at times. “You know I hate talking about the hard stuff, but you need it Lea. Even though I wasn’t her biggest fan at the end, I’d have to be blind to not see how happy she made you before everything burned down. I stepped into a landmine about a month ago, but it brought the best thing ever to my life.” Man, if someone had told the blonde weeks ago that she would be encouraging Lea to be with Dianna, she would have smacked them upside the head. It wasn’t a secret that Harley was very protective of her best friend. “Good because I don’t want to get rid of ya. You shared wine together and both bonded over how much you love me which is insanely cute by the way. You don’t have to worry. She’ll also let you threaten her as much as you want,” she said with a laugh. Eve was very worried about Lea not liking her because she knew how big the singer was in her life. “Oh my God, shut it. Seriously, I hate you. I know my life is a soap opera. I told Eve she should write a screenplay on it.”

“There’s just a lot to figure out what needs to be fixed, it’s been six years since we broke up and I mean, I want to see it through. However, I’m scared that I’m going to mess it up again. I don’t want to do anything because I’ve got crazy love eyes or whatever but… I don’t know. Thank you though… for being willing to pick up that mess again if it happens.” Having Harley around whens he ended things with Dianna was what kept her sane, she was the person that kept her from going completely crazy. Harley let her feel everything and let her cry as often as she needed and gave her a home when she didn’t want to be alone in her old house. Harley had been with Lea through every hard transition in her life and she could never thank her enough, could never even begin to express her gratitude to her. “You’re not going to lose me, H. No woman is every gonna come between what you and I’ve got, alright?” The brunette promised, searching the other’s eyes. Harley was one of those people that Lea would be devastated if she lost. The two had become so close over the years that to lose that friendship… well… that wasn’t a world she wanted to live in. Harley meant to much to her and if the blonde ever wanted to get rid of her, Lea would go out kicking, fighting and crying. “Why are you and Bex on the outs again? Is it cause of Eve?”
Harley sighed as she listened to Lea speak because it could be intimidating to look a mistake in the eye and try to fix it. The blonde always thought that Lea was far too hard on herself for what happened back then, but that’s how the brunette was. She was so full of feeling. It was why she could take anyone’s breath away when she sang. “I know you were expecting me to give you a mouth full about how you should learn from what I went through, but listen, I don’t regret getting back with Selena and trying to work things out because at least now I know. There is no wondering of what if,” she said with a shrug. “Lea, you left because you were tired of hiding, and you did deserve more. Your communication was poop, but so was hers. Just talk with her, Lea. You’ll have a chance to tonight before or after you do things my ears don’t want to hear.” Harley grabbed on of Lea’s hands and squeezed it comfortably. When those brown eyes searched her blue ones, the younger woman nodded. “Man, my abandonment issues are too real. I should keep working on that crap, but good. My girlfriend obviously loves you. She’d be over here, but she wanted to give us the chance to talk.” It was such a welcomed change to have Eve and Lea truly like one another and get along. The mention of her sister made her want to groan. It all made her feel terrible, but at the same time not because she really couldn’t do anything to fight how she felt about the woman. “Yes, it’s because of Eve. My sister doesn’t hate me and isn’t mad at me, but things are a little awkward right now.”

“Well, I’ll also be spending the night at her house before going back on tour.” Lea mentioned cooly, almost making it seem like it was no big deal to be sleeping at your ex-girlfriend’s house; as if it was a natural occurrence. She didn’t want to get scolded or see Harley raise a brow at her just because she was doing exactly what Lea had told her not to do whens he had heard about her and Selena. Even though that was over… she didn’t want that lesson told back to her or the possibility of a comparison of the two relationships. “I’ll let you know when I know because it’s still up in the air and it’s terrifying, alright?” Taking another sip from her wine, Lea could only let the mental gears start to grind against her again, she loved Harley and it would be hard to not fall back into the habit of trying to hide what her and Dianna were doing. Even if Harley knew the entire origin, she knew the old need to keep quiet would rise again. “Good thing you love my dad jokes. You light up your life, Carmichael.”
That was what the blonde had been waiting to hear because she knew it was coming. She and Lea both loved so much and so openly that she knew that the brunette wouldn’t be able to walk away from someone she had loved so much. “Good,” she said with a slight nod. “Look, sweetheart, am I scared of you getting hurt again? Yeah I am, but I know that you should see how this goes. If she wants to as well and you’re both willing to fix things, then try. If you get hurt, I’ll be right here to love you and patch you up again.” Less than two weeks ago Harley would have been having a fit, but as she looked back towards her now girlfriend, she knew that love was crazy. The blonde’s ears did pick up on the slight tension in Lea’s tone, and she sighed. “I know it’s scary, but just promise me you won’t push me away? I -- you’ve become a lot to me since the first time you and Dianna were together, and well, with my sister and I on the outs a bit, I don’t know how well I’d deal if you just distanced yourself too. I’ll give you space to figure it out and everything of course, but yeah.” Harley was never good at explaining her feelings. She was awkward when it came to saying how scared she was to lose someone. “I guess I can’t argue with that,” she said with a roll of her own eyes before sipping her drink.

“Oh, c’mon. Loosen up.” Lea said, placing her hands on Harley’s shoulder, giving her a gentle shake –– wanting her to not be so wound up. She knew that the topic of Dianna might be a lot and she didn’t want Harley to question it too much, she didn’t have the answers herself and while that was okay, she didn’t want to sound like an idiot in from of her best friend. “Good, cause there isn’t anything to say, babes. The real discussion is that I didn’t know you and Eve were officially dating. I feel out of the loop, there.” The brunette said teasingly, it was inevitable and she had chosen to wait to actually ask. “I ran into her a couple of days ago.. Ran into her again tonight… and that’s that.” She explained with a shrug, not knowing here to go from there, that was really all that had happened. Aside from the kisses… and teasing… and them planning to spend the night together but other than that, it wasn’t anything to report on! With another order of wine on hand, the singer sipped slowly, promising herself that it was the last glass. “I can really manhandle you if you want.” She joked, making a whipping sound and bringing her wrist together as if they were bound, not being able to keep a straight face, she burst into laughter. “Ew, stop it. I love you and I’m so lucky to have you in my life, Harls.”
The blonde couldn’t help but giggle at the antics Lea was displaying. She was adorable sometimes. “Oh shut it,” she said with a laugh. “You knew before anyone that I wanted to be with Eve, and I know you and Eve pretty much talked about it when you were taking care of me. So nuh uh. No way you are wiggling out of this,” she said with a shake of her head. Harley knew that Lea was going to get a lot of shit from a lot of people, and while she was worried for her friend’s heart, the last thing she needed was for things to be worse because of her. Lea needed someone in her corner. “That’s that? You promise? Babe, I’m not going to get mad. I just, you’re going to have to hide from enough people. I don’t want to be one of them.” Harley just wanted the chance to be there for her friend the way she had been there for her. “Oh my God,” she said while scrunching her nose. “I can’t with you. You’re like a dad with the bad jokes.”

The only person who’s questions she’d answer were Harley’s, she was the only person who even slightly deserved an explanation. Of course she’d want to tell Harley herself, but the rumor mill was running at full speed and word had probably gotten to the younger woman. Feeling a little ambushed, Lea laughed once it hit her that it was Harley, just the one she was looking for. “Dianna’s here?” She joked softly, pretending to scan the room even though she figured the other wouldn’t be that amused. Lea flashed her a cheesy smile once she turned gaze back to the younger woman. “Because it just happened and if I’m not wrong, you’ve been very busy.” Lea reminded her, rising an eyebrow at her before shrugging. Taking Harley by the elbow, she moved them towards the drinks, to grab another glass of whatever was being served. “Good, I’m proud of you kiddo. I did, I shed multiple tears and then cursed your name because I’m pretty sure I smudged my makeup.”
Harley made a deadpan face at Lea’s joke before shaking her head. “Who told you that you’re funny? They lied, Lea,” she said teasingly. Harley couldn’t fault her for that explanation. She had indeed been busy. Between Eve, Demi, and all the others that wanted to congratulate her on her award the blonde just got a moment to breathe and find her best friend. “Alright you’re not wrong. Eve and I have been fielding a ton of questions. It’s kind of crazy. Just so you know though, I’ve deflected on any questions I’ve gotten about Dianna. When they ask me about a blonde you’re with I told them I hadn’t seen you all night which they were not as amused about as Eve and I were,” she joked. Apparently her jokes could be just as bad. “Now, can you tell me just what happened,” she asked with a tilt of her head. Harley allowed herself to be lead towards the drinks and asked for a whiskey sour herself. She’d drink it slowly and then get one for Eve when she headed back towards her girlfriend. “I don’t like being manhandled. Awe, look at you getting all emotional. I meant it though. You really are like the best role model I could ask for. You’re like my mom, and I love you so much.”

To say Eve was surprised would be an understatement she had gotten attached to the project when it was still in its fetus stage, just an idea in the other writers head and had fallen in love with the script. So when her friend had come to her and said she wanted her to be one of the leads Eve jumped at the chance to be in front of the screen again instead of just behind it. She had been getting little updates here and there about the project and casting but nothing sustatial yet…it appeared as if her friend had kept a big secret from her. Her eyes lit up and she smiled brightly at the woman, then to Harley when she walked away. “You–you little sneak!” she laughed. “Why didn’t you tell me you were going to be playing opposite of me?” Without a second thought she squeezed Harley’s side in a more ticklish way than a loving one and shook her head. “Brat.” she muttered and pressed another kiss to her girlfriend’s lips. “Now I really want to get you home.” she teased.
“I love you too.” Eve said, a small smile sliding onto her red lips. “It’s not insulting, or at least, I don’t see it that way, it really just comes off as you being cautious and caring. Scared to lose what you have. It can be cute. But i like the idea of not playing it safe. Because–I know I’d be the same way if Selena came back around right now, or someone else you may have had feelings for.” she said and bit her bottom lip a bit nervously. It wasn’t that she was nervous about telling Harley that, moreso just nervous that the other girl would think her crazy. “Could you now? ‘Cause its only going to get worse the longer were together–I’m gonna get even more mushy as time goes on.”
When the brunette did finally turn her full attention back to Harley, she couldn’t help but laugh at the look of shock she was wearing. There was definite joy there as well which was what mattered the most. “I told you I had a meeting for a film last week,” she teased. The blonde had definitely mentioned it, but she knew it was very vague. She squeaked lightly when she was tickled and playfully swatted away Eve’s hand with her free one. “I wanted to see your face when you found out, and this was an amazing reaction. Think we’ll be able to sell a romance,” she asked teasingly while playfully wiggling her eyebrows. Harley took another step closer to her girlfriend in an attempt to make the short kiss longer. A small pout formed on her lips when she wasn’t successful. “Me too, but I think we have to stick it out at least thirty more minutes. Lea already grabbed me and went full mom mode. Oh, by the way, if anyone asks you anything about Dianna, just deflect. They’ll deal with it eventually.”
A smile crept up on the woman’s face as she listened to Eve’s words. How the two of them had stifled what they had for so long she’ll never know, but she was glad that it was able to surface now. “Selena is here somewhere,” she waved in no general direction to the space around them. “But so is Demi. And even if she was here alone, it wouldn’t matter because the only woman I want is you.
