Sooo apparently Fiore came back
Which is, well, better than nothing.
Fiore and DeBlanc a.k.a. Dads
Never forget this happened.
MASADA
How did the Allfather know about Jesse Custer? How did he know that lullabies calmed Genesis down?
What was the deal the Allfather made with Satan?
How did he have all those Humperdoos cloned - and DNA solutions prepared? That would have taken time. He must have known about Jesse and Genesis for a while.
We find out he had an inside source... A parent of Genesis, as we saw in the finale. But if it goes like the comic - a parent of Genesis wouldn't know about Jesse Custer. He wouldn't know how to take care of it - because it was never his.
It doesn't make sense... unless we've already been introduced to the parents.
I am not saying there aren't ways to write around this...just that there's enough here for them to keep this storyline going. Fuck this is going to be a long year.
@alteyv, here we go :3333
From The Art and Making of Preacher....
First photo points to DeBlanc being a demon.
Second points to Fiore being an angel and not understanding how sex works, versus DeBlanc - who is a demon, and does. (This would also explain Fiore's blurry line with friendship)
Third photo points to Genesis being considered Fiore & DeBlanc's baby.
Or I’m leaving...
Preacher + the Onion Headlines
Wow! Cassidy & Eccarius sure look like close friends, don't they?
angels dads + the unholy trinity as wynken blynken and nod because why not
Asked Dave Blass about an early observation of mine - toys in Fiore & DeBlanc’s chest - and I am glad I did. Always happy to learn more about Genesis’….custodians.
Sooooo first of all - I am way, way appreciative of Dave Blass responding. Kudos to amyone who may have thought this already - I think I remember someone reblogging with that idea a couple years ago.
Second of all, to address the elephant in the room, this is (at its face) bad news for the Angelship theory - as the toys were not for Genesis.
However...
This relevation rehighlights the importance of the lullaby...as it is literally the only way Fiore & DeBlanc have been able to communicate with Genesis.
Fiore was skeptical of Genesis responding to the lullaby...and once DeBlanc realized this - that Fiore didn't really think they'd connected with Genesis at all - DeBlanc insisted on trying the lullaby again - rather than just killing Jesse....as they originally intended.
This tenuous connection explains Fiore's willingness to kill Genesis, relative to DeBlanc's. Even if you consider them "surrogate" parents - Fiore certainly is the harsh parent ("Bad Boy!") while DeBlanc is a bit more lenient ("No...").
From Fiore's perspective, there wasn't a lot to hold onto - but there was a lot to lose (ie- DeBlanc..."They'll separate us forever"). And in his heart he saw Genesis as dangerous and unsustainable....which is why he could only "Find Peace" after reaffirming the Saint's mission.
For DeBlanc...Genesis meant something more (hence all the longing stares into the empty coffee can). Yusef said in an interview that DeBlanc considered Genesis, at the end of the day, theirs - and no one else's (paraphrased). Remember Genesis is a baby...the sounds used for Genesis were ultrasound noises, the original design was literally a comit with the face of a screaming infant.
This is also consistent with the angel & demon parents in the comic....the angel wanted Genesis dead, the demon did not (though the demon died before being able to say much of anything.)
DeBlanc - even if you consider him only ever being an angel - has a connection with Hell, that Fiore does not have. (Reminder...Yusef said Fiore wasn't afraid of Hell because "he's from heaven"....whereas DeBlanc, apparently, is not.)
DeBlanc's experience with Hell - regardless of its context - primes him to be more appreciative of having a connection to something like a baby. To him, Genesis is more precious than dangerous.
So precious that perhaps DeBlanc couldn't stand to be the one to pull the trigger...even if it meant returning to heaven, confessing, and losing Fiore in the process.
Too much writing, I know, but there you go. Still thematically the best route for the show.
If by “baby” you mean the most powerful entity ever known, the singular force that could shift the balance of power, threaten all of creation, then, yeah, it’s a b a b y.

I am sorry for how long it took for me to find this - thank you so, so much for posting this! It means a lot. I am glad you liked it.
Deblanc and I had a legendary friendship. Legendary.
me, looking off into the distance, wondering when fiore and deblanc will return from the war
Damn right.
Was discussing the direct line to Hell post with my mom, and she said it’s like the opposite to the Heaven phone that DeBlanc and Fiore had!
Great observation! YES! It is absolutely similar. I am so so glad of anything that brings Fiore & DeBlanc back into the watcher’s mind.
On that note - in this last episode, The Angel of Death is introduced - and it sure seems like she is working a demon’s job. Fallen angels are still angels….ah but I’ll save it for my other blog. Thank you (and your Mom!) for the observation!
Angels in Hell. Demons in heaven. It can happen.
How often do you sin? Preacher edition.
