you guys ever think about how kotlc, a middle school book about elves, did the “perfect world has flaws” better than all of those “gritty” “mature” “dystopian” “adult” hunger games clones did

like yeah sure the series has flaws but I will always commend it for actually sticking to its premise of different ideologies making rebel groups reacting to a conflict thousands of years in the making and actually having nuance in the plot

and Sophie is special chosen one yeah whatever but her being “chosen one” actually seen for the pressure it would be on a literal child. she is the creation of very flawed people with understandable goals but who are also opposed to change in their ways. she’s hurt and traumatized by the “good guys” countless times. and she’s made to become a leader by force.

and the villains? love them. Gisela and her obsession with her son. Alvar and the Vacker legacy. Vespera and her atrocities that she genuinely doesn’t care about because she’s that old and numb. Fintan and his lashing out a system that hates him while at the same time still exhibiting a form of disdain for those he considers lesser. Brant and his lost love.
