hi hello i just finished the fake divination offense and i absolutely adored it and now i am super invested in the hellhounds i'm afraid... can you maybe share a random fact about each of my babies darian, marlow and aaron? i need to know more about them like i physically need it

darian was originally supposed to be a character in RIVAL WIZARDS. he was part of a bigger friend group that seb/orok grew up with, but it just didn't work; it was always supposed to be seb and orok against the world. and darian was also originally a necromancer bard who creeped orok out all the time (the zombie seb leaves in the lab at the beginning of the book? he mentions a guy in the necromancy lab; that character was darian until i had to cut him and their whole extended friend group).

marlow's subtitle rings/earrings are something i think about all. the. time. and i finally put them in a book because my life and the lives of so many ppl would be so much easier if every human came with subtitles

aaron was originally just another player on the hellhounds, until i had a friend read the book to check my sports terminology (shout out kristen simmons, ily). she mentioned that a sport mirroring football would have a team captain, so aaron got promoted.

i have been thinking about the sara raasch multiverse and about how hex and orok are lowkey similar in the sense that people generally think of them as no more than their traditions which are all like scary and strong but hex wants to show the light and closure halloween can bring while orok wants to be strong but not in the sense most urzoth followers define it and yeah i just think those two would get along...

anygay, that then led to me thinking about coal and bel in the same room and oh my god isn't that a beautiful picture? can you imagine what those two chaos gremlins would get up to???

i must say, i am a huge fan of when a book is in the middle of a very exciting plot containing many interesting problems when out of nowhere for a few pages it's like, "hey by the way, real quick, here's a detailed explanation of the city's water filtration system! i'm telling you this for a reason and you should worry about it. anyway! haha okay back to the plot" and you just get to be Scared for a while

only one chapter into The Fake Divination Offense but the concept of Taste by Sabrina Carpenter being the background music for a bar fight and an angry Orok is so hilarious to me like for that entire interaction my brain helpfully reminded me every now and again that a Sabrina Carpenter song is playing 😭
