āItās fucking freezing out here,ā Gray forced out through chattering teeth, shaking all over. He was used to the coldā āheād grown up in Isvan and trained in the icy mountains of Brago, after allā ābut this was just something else. Add that to the fact that as an Ice Mage, his naturally cool core sapped body heat and made him sensitive to chill, and, wellā¦ you get the gist.
What heād give for Happy to be here right now. The Exceed would probably be able to carry them both down this goddamn mountain and out of the storm, but Happy had injured his wing on Natsuās last mission and was currently recovering at the guild.
Natsu, who was stretched out on the floor of the cave, gave him a look that was a cross between smug and slightly worried. Gray grit his teeth and tried not to glare at his boyfriendā āstupid fire core, keeping Natsu all warm and toasty while he froze his ass off. He curled into a ball instead, trying to preserve what little warmth he had.
āYou donāt look so hot, babe,ā Natsu said a few minutes later, watching Gray curl further and further into himself. Gray just grunted and buried his head deeper in his knees, not wanting Natsu to see him so vulnerable.
There was silence for a little while, the only sound the deafening rain pouring outside the cave that they were taking shelter in. Gray shivered and shuddered, trying his best not to show it. He was pretty sure he was failing, though.
That was when a pair of warm arms wrapped around him, and he was pulled flush against a muscular chest, a hand carding through his hair. A scarf was draped over his shirtless torsoāNatsuās scarf, Gray recognised hazilyāand then a face topped with pink hair came into view. He blinked up at Natsu, who was glaring powerfully, a scowl twisting his usually pleasant face.
āNext time you need help, just tell me! Iām your boyfriend! When youāre around me, itās okay to not be the goddamn iron fortress you always are!ā Natsu snapped, drawing Gray closer to him. Heād stretched his legs, and Gray slowly pushed his own out too, putting himself almost in Natsuās lap but not quite.Ā
āSā āsorry,ā he mumbled, a little embarrassed. Natsu was right. It was okay to let himself go around him. It was just thatā¦ Gray wanted to protect Natsu, to be his equal and to be as strong as he was, and how could one be strong and vulnerable?
āThatās love, isnāt it?ā Natsu said softly, as if reading Grayās mind. āBabe, itās about giving every side of yourself to the other person. I can take it. I want to take it, soā¦ let me.ā
Gray flushed slightly, but let himself relax against Natsu, nodding.
āOkay,ā he whispered, his tense muscles unclenching as Natsuās warmth enveloped him. āSorry.ā
āDonāt be,ā Natsu said tenderly, caressing Grayās hair and holding him in place. Gray lay limp against him, and his eyes began to flutter shut, lulled into momentary peace. The scarf over his upper body wasā¦ warm, in a way that couldnāt be just the material. Perhaps it was the magicā āor perhaps it was all the love in it, from Igneel to Natsu and now from Natsu to him.
Wow, being vulnerable really made him sappy, didnāt it?
Just as Gray was about to drift off, safe and comfortable in his boyfriendās arms despite the fact that they were trapped in a tiny cave during a rainstorm, a thought flashed through his head.
If we werenāt stuck here, Iād marry you already.
It was just as well that sleep claimed him seconds before he realised that heād said that out loud, or noticed the pink flush on Natsuās face.

When Gray woke up the next morning, it was to Natsu hovering over him, biting his lower lip anxiously and shifting from foot to foot. Gray stretched, feeling oddly well-rested, and quirked a brow at his boyfriend.
āSpit it out, whatās eatinā ya?ā he asked lazily, pulling off the scarf and handing it back to Natsu, who put it on with a profuse blush.
āOkay, um,ā Gray said slowly, āthatāsā¦ new. What happened to you? You are the real Natsu and not some clone that a Dark Wizard decided to substitute him with just to fuck around?ā He cracked his knuckles, rising to his feet, magic pricking at his fingertips. āāCause if you did that, youāre going to get a personal view of what hell looks like.ā
āNo!ā Natsu squawked. āNo. No, Iām the real one.āĀ
He slipped off his vest, lifting his arm to show off the bite mark under his armpit. Gray scrutinised it for a second before noddingāonly he and the real Natsu knew about that scar. Happy, angry at being sidelined for Gray, had bit Natsu as hard as he could before flying off in tears: the two had then teamed up to find the Exceed, both assuring him that Gray was an addition and not a replacement in the family.
āOkay, so whatās going on?ā Gray asked once more, locating his shirt from the corner of the cave and slipping it on. He knew heād probably lose it soon, but it was a nice shirt and heād like to keep it as long as he could.
Natsu blushed harder, fidgeting with his hands. Then, finally, he said in a low whisper, āDid you mean it?ā
āMean it?ā Gray tilted his head, utterly confused.
āAboutā āabout marrying me. Um. That is. If we werenāt stuck in this cave.ā Natsuās voice came out grating and a little choked up, and Gray blinked for a second before he remembered.
If we werenāt here, Iād marry you already.Ā
āDā ādid I say that out loud?!ā he yelped, face turning hot. āIā āNatsu, Iā āā
Natsu shook his head, looking a little dejected.
āNah, donāt worry about it. I get it. You were tired andā āā
āYeah, I meant it. I wanna marry you, Flame Brain.ā Gray didnāt know what force had taken hold of him, but he was sure it wasnāt him moving his mouth. And yet, it wasā āit was a Gray that wasnāt scared of just how much he loved Natsu, and that was both terrifying and beautiful. āThere isnāt really anyone else who gets me the way you do, dumbass. Who else is gonna spar with me at three in the morning when I canāt sleep, or eat my awful food with that big grin, or give me a good morning kiss on my ears? I donāt know anyone else like that, and I donāt want to. Youāre Natsu, and I want Natsu.āĀ
Natsu turned redder, if that was possible.Ā
āOā āoh,ā he said in a strangled voice. āIā āokay.ā Gray raised an eyebrow.Ā
āOkay? I literally just gave you a confession of undying love and all you have to say is okay?ā He added a teasing edge to his voice to lighten the mood a little, and Natsu grinned mischievously.
āYeah. Okay,ā he said jokingly. Gray huffed, pretending to be affronted.Ā
āWell then, I guess that present I have for you is just going to go to someone else. After all, if you can only give me āokayā, I should probably find somebody else.ā
āA present?!ā Natsu whined, grabbing Grayās arms. āBaaabeeee! Come on, Iām sorry!ā
āNo can do.ā
They bickered all the way down the mountain, but it was light and easy, the way it always was between them. Even as Natsu tossed insults at him, he grasped Grayās hand as tight as ever. And Grayās grip on Natsuās hand was just as secure, even while snapping back clever retorts.
Natsu didnāt need to put it in words for Gray to understand just what he meantāhe never did, because he said it in a million other ways, like taking off his precious scarf or letting Gray use him as a portable heater.

heyhey!! this is @izukillmeā iām just posting this here because i like to keep my fics organised to one blog~ the boys are all 19 in this fic because iām not comfortable writing implied scenes for minors. although this is 99% SFW, i donāt write NSFW!
āYosh!ā Kise screamed, dunking the ball into the basket. As he landed, face flushed with exertion, Aomine ran up to him with a grin.
āThat was amazing, babe!ā
Kiseās face turned redder, and he looked away. Aomine smiled wider and pulled Kise into a passionate kiss, which the blond reciprocated with equal vigour.
Midorima cleared his throat as loudly as he could. There was no response from the kissing couple, and he could almost feel the pitying glances being cast his way by the opposing team, made up of Kagami, Kuroko and Akashi. (Murasakibara, whose arm was still healing, was all too happy to skip out on the weekly games that the TeikÅ group had.)
Midorima would admit, it had been cute the first couple of times. Even he had felt a little flutter in his stomach as Kise dipped Aomine like a bride after one of those formless shots, kissing him as if it was something out of a romance movie. But it just kept happening! With the sheer amount of making out that was going on, Midorima swore that they were this close to being conjoined at the lips.Ā
And oh, the mushiness. Aomine would give Kise that gooey-gooey look, with his eyes practically melting at the sight of the blondā āand Kise wasnāt much better either, draping himself all over Aomine every time they were together. Fates help him, but Midorima never wanted to see Aomine Daiki being soft ever again. Emphasis on the ever.
Midorima cleared his throat once more, praying to every god he knew that Kise and Aomine would pull apart, damn it.Ā
And miracle of miracles, it happened. Aomine ripped his mouth away from Kiseās, tilting his head at Midorima in abject confusion. Midorima gulped, a sense of foreboding washing over him for some strange reason.
āOi, Midorima, you got a cold or somethinā? You've been clearinā that throat for a while now,ā Aomine informed him rather coolly.Ā
Midorima choked, bending double as a fit of true coughs overcame him. He thought he heard a couple of snickers coming from where Kuroko and the rest were, and tried to shoot a glare their way, but failed miserably. As he straightened up, finally recovering, his eyes caught Aomine and Kiseā āyet again glued to each other like there was no tomorrow.
Midorima buried his face in his hands and tried not to cry.Ā
ā Finally, gloriously, they pulled apart, and Aomine called for the ball. The game began again, and this time Midorima did his very best to monopolise the play, just so he wouldnāt have to see Aomine and Kise all over each other again. He knew it sounded extreme, but you werenāt there. You didnāt see how they were constantly rubbing up against each other, how the simplest of plays could turn into an innuendo that would have even crude Haizaki blushing.
Sadly, the universe seemed to have it in for him today. It figured, he thought morosely; Cancers were ranked eleventh today, only ahead of Libras like Murasakibara. Not having the ball led to Aomine and Kise forgetting they were in a game, and resuming their lip-lock, leaving Midorima to play what was virtually a one-on-three.Ā
He lost the next couple of games, of course. One-on-three, even with his ability to shoot, was too much, and heād never been particularly good at steals anyway. Still, it grated on his nerves, and even the shy smile that Kagami shot him, promising a few clandestine kisses later, didnāt help very much.
Eventually, the sun began to sink in the sky, and Akashi suggested that they call it a day, a glimmer of pity in his warm crimson eyes as they passed over Midorima. The bespectacled boy breathed a sigh of reliefāat last, it was over.
āWell, that was great!ā Kise cried, stretching. Midorima shot him a poisonous glare that went completely unnoticed. āI had an awesome time!ā
āSame here,ā Aomine said with a little smirk, his eyes glued to the strip of skin exposed by Kise raising his arms above his head. Midorima looked away, his stomach churning a little.
An arm curled around his waist, then, and a head pressed itself into his shoulder. The spikiness of the hair felt oddly familiar, as did the soft warmth of the body.
Kagami. Midorima relaxed just a little, allowing himself to melt into his boyfriend slightly. Though they were out of the closet, they were nowhere near as touchy-feely as Kise and Aomine (and by God, was Midorima thankful for it). Speaking of the duo, Aomine had his head buried in Kiseās neck, allowing the blond to pat his hair and cosset him.
Kagami made puking noises, and Midorima resisted the urge to laugh. His boyfriend could be so cute sometimes. With some difficulty, he dragged his eyes away from Kagami and up to Akashi and Kuroko, who were watching the two couples with varying levels of disgust andā¦ was that envy in Akashiās eyes?Ā
Midorima allowed a little smirk to curl his mouth. It wasnāt every day that you could make Akashi SeijÅ«rÅ jealous. Maybe Aomine and Kiseās PDA wasnāt so bad, he thought, turning his head to look at the other twoā ā
Oh, but hadnāt they ever heard of public decency?!Ā
Midorima whipped his head back around, shifting so he could bury his face in the shorter Kagamiās shoulder. No more sight for him todayā āKagami could carry him home. He wouldnāt risk looking up and seeing Aomine and Kise attempting to devour each other.
āLetās go,ā he mumbled, his voice muffled into Kagamiās shoulder. Kagami nodded, slipping his arm around Midorimaās waist and dragging him along, calling out a casual, āSee ya!ā to the others as they left.Ā
Midorima had never been gladder that Kagami had taken so much trouble to intimately understand him.

Fate, apparently, really hated Midorima Shintarou. First Oha-Asa ranked Cancers twelfth, then it was raining so hard that he couldnāt go out to get his lucky item (a lion), and nowā ā
And now this. Midorimaās eye twitched as he looked at the jersey: TÅÅ, #5. How had that even ended up in his bag?! Hands shaking in irritation, he dialled Aomineās number.
āHello?ā said a lazy, drawling voice that was definitely not Aomineā .
Oh, God. Midorima bit his tongue to stop himself from doubling over and throwing up because if Kise was sleeping at Aomineās place that meantā āthings that he definitely did not want to think about.
āKise,ā he said as curtly as he could. āAomineās jersey somehow made its way into my bag. One of you needs to come by and pick it up.ā
āSorry,ā Kise yawned, ābut no can do, Midorimacchi. Neither of us can drive and itās raining way too hard to walk. Youāre gonna have to come here.ā
Midorima gripped the phone in his hand tighter than ever and cursed the fact that he knew how to drive.
Fifteen minutes later, having driven his motherās Nissan through the pouring rain, he stood in front of Aomineās house with a black umbrella open over his head and the jersey tucked under his arm, half-hoping that no one would answer the door when he knocked. Taking a deep breath, he raised his hand tentatively, giving a single, sharp rap to the wood and stepping away.
Fiveā¦ he counted down, praying that heād be able to bolt. Four, threeā¦ twoā āĀ
God damn it.Ā Midorima rarely ever swore, even in his head, but he thought this warranted it. There was a soft sound of the door clicking open, and then it swung free, revealing a blue, tousled head looking blearily up at him.
āHey, Midorima,ā Aomine said with a lazy smile. āI think Iāll take that, thanks.ā
He reached out a hand to grab the jersey, and Midorima gladly handed it to him. As he did, however, he had the misfortune of his eyes falling directly upon Aomineā āwho was wearing nothing but boxers. Midorima bit his tongue as hard as he could to suppress a scream.
That was when a sleepy voice asked from behind Aomine, āAominecchi, is that Midoriā āyawnā āMidorimacchi?ā
Midorima squinted, hoping against hope that it wasnāt who he thought it was. But indeed, that was Kise, emerging from the dark hallway into the foyer to rest his head on Aomineās shoulder.
āMidorimacchi!ā Kise beamed, entirely too cheerful for someone who had been half-asleep mere moments ago. Midorima just grunted in response, decidedly avoiding Kiseās eyes.
āCome on, Midorimacchi, donāt be like that,ā Kise whined, pushing his way past Aomine to get to Midorima, who stepped back, his eyes involuntarily falling to Kiseās clothesā āĀ
Kiseās cloth. Because the blond was wearing nothing other than a form-fitting white T-shirt, hickeys trailing over his collarbones and down under the shirt. The top hit his mid-thighs despite clinging to his powerful frameāso it was Aomineās then, Midorima thought faintly.
Then he passed out, ignoring the shocked scream of, āMidorima!ā and the snickering of Kise in the background.

Midorima awoke to a person leaning over him, wearing a devious smirk, hazel eyes glinting with mischief. He groaned softly as the memories of that morning flooded back into his headā ā
Then he froze and sat up, his lips moving in silent prayer. To his credit, Kise moved back just in time to avoid being smacked, but Midorima didnāt notice, too caught up in his horror.
Please, please donāt let that have happened. It was all a dream, right? All a dream?
Midorima turned, grabbing Kise by the shoulders and looking at him closely.
āTell me this morning didnāt happen,ā he said pleadingly. Kise tilted his head, as innocent as innocent could get, eyes wide with worry.
āI have no idea what you mean, Midorimacchi. You came to give Aominecchiās jersey back, and then you just passed out. Are you okay?āĀ
Midorima breathed a sigh of relief, slumping against the pillows.
āOh, thank God,ā he whispered.Ā
It was just as well that he didnāt notice the fact that Kise was wearing a turtleneck sweater despite the humidity of the day, or that the blond had hurriedly brushed away a plastic wrapper from the bed before he could lay eyes on it.

Tetsuyaās voice comes out more petulant than heād meant, and he wants to cover his face. But Shunās eyes are warm like twin smudges of charcoal, the simmering embers that keep the room heated and lull you into a comforting sleep, and suddenly Tetsuya canāt tear his gaze away from the other.
āI see you,ā Shun says, but thatās not all Tetsuya hears. Thereās so much more said in the way his eyes crinkle, in the rare smile heās smiling that lights up his whole face.

after months of hard work and what seems like an endless hiatus, this storyās finally back! itās been a crazy ride, and i would never have gotten this far without all my lovely friends supporting me. particularly my sweet friend and amazing beta, @akichan-th, without whom this would still have been a mess of thoughts and ideas; and the wonderful @pun-ctual, whoās been such a great friend, powerful emotional support and a voice of reason when i got a little crazy about life xDĀ
izukiās journey in this story has been every inch mine, too. i love every word, every punctuation mark and space in here. the process was the most amazing experience iāve ever had - even when i felt like tearing my hair out because the characters just would not listen to me. from when i started this, back in october 2019, iāve grown leaps and bounds as a writer; my progress makes me proud, and iām excited for what other stories will push me towards being a better author! but now itās time to say goodbye to āeaglesā - i might revisit this verse in some side stories, perhaps post some deleted scenes, but for nowā¦ itās time that i set it free into the world.Ā
