Dear God. What is this notion anti-caps have somehow created that we hate the breeding ban because it’s somehow detrimental to us and our “selfish” wishes? We hate this because it’s a total disregard for animal welfare and natural. Another question,what happened to all the anti-caps who griped and moaned that SeaWorld wasn’t natural enough? Oh right, now they’re cheering that breeding,one of the relatively few beneficial natural activities these animals had,is gone which somehow soothes their feelings of self-righteousness. But don’t listen to me,I’m just a selfish pro-cap.
The same people who boo and claim SeaWorld “separates whales, they live in unnatural pods and are drugged up!” now cheer when SeaWorld’s whales will be… separated in unnatural pods and drugged up.
(Okay, to be fair, SeaWorld has stated they won’t do that, but even when the breeding ban was suggested by the CCC, the antis cheered even if it would mean a detrimental life for the whales.)
I even saw an anti on SeaWorlds Facebook page (they don’t delete them anymore?) saying “yay, now I can visit SeaWorld when they don’t have huge animals in tiny tanks!”
I told her that thanks to them, these huge animals will remain in 80′s standards-tanks for another 50 years.
SeaWorld’s breeding program already uses techniques to control breeding - like birth control and separating cycling females from males. The only difference is now those methods are going to be used on every SeaWorld whale to prevent all further breeding. SeaWorld is suddenly inhumane for doing something that they have been doing for literally decades? I don’t think so. It sucks that they have to give the whales birth control and temporarily separate cycling females, but it probably will not cause any problems and is a small price to pay to spare future generations of whales from a lifetime suffering in captivity.
