She folds her arms, sighing and trying to keep her patience. The last thing Josh needs is for someone to snap at him. ❝Of course I know, Josh,❞ she spoke, a little less softly this time. ❝You wouldn’t be asking that question unless there was something you wanted to hear. Look, I’m not going to make you talk if you don’t want to, but you can’t just reach out to me asking those sorts of questions and then expect me not to worry.❞

Kate gives a weary sigh, deciding not to call Josh out for being kind of a dick. ❝Josh, come on. That’s the exact opposite of what I said. You need to start seeing someone before you do snap.❞  She scoots next to him, looking back up at him. ❝And maybe you don’t want to, but it seems like you’ve got a lot that you need to express right now.❞ She places a gentle hand on his shoulder.  ❝Talk to me, Josh. She stepped in as soon as Summer moved from the door, studying the house’s interior. Her father and Jerry greeted each other with small talk about typical father things, as if they were just picking up right where they left off. Huh. A smaller teenage boy with mousey brown hair and a middle-aged woman with blonde hair that cascaded over her shoulders stood in the kitchen, greeting the Christian with friendly banter. An older man with unruly gray hair stood away from the others, sipping from a flask and not even bothering to hide just how uninterested he was in everything. 

❝So um...I know this is really awkward, but my dad will probably be a bit upset with me if I don't at least try to make an effort to be social...so...um...tell me about yourself, I guess.❞ Kate gave a sheepish smile. Curse this social awkwardness. Hey, at least she could start somewhat anew for a couple of days with people who didn’t hear about any of the drama down at her school, unless her father told Jerry. The last thing she needed right now was pity.

Kate’s eyes widen, in fear, panic coursing through her veins. She takes a deep breath, in and out. Nothing would be solved if she couldn’t stay calm and collected. ❝It’s - it’s okay, Max,❞ the Christian speaks as calmly as she can manage. ❝She couldn’t have gone very far. She’s probably just hiding under my bed or someone else’s bed or something. She likes to do that.❞ She tries to stay hopeful. After all, there’s no way Alice could have gone super far beyond the second floor of the dormitories. ❝I can ask Mr. Jefferson permission to go look for her, but uh...do you think you could take some notes for me?❞ Normally, Kate wouldn’t ever skip class if she could help it, but with things like this, it was better to start searching sooner rather than later before Alice could escape.
