beneath bar lights
The bar tunes are playing
and his martini glass is half-full.
His tanned skin glistens under kaleidoscopic lights,
they are a sandy shade his smile bears too,
like he is a sort of gold that never rusts.
The city lights are gleaming,
but his gaze rests upon mine.
I wonder if he knows
my world loses track of time.
I wonder if he knows
my heartbeat outruns his fastest cars,
that I am lost in him beyond the stars.
The nights are spinning slow,
And I dance with him
in amber glow and timeless flow
between the lights, between the bars
like we don’t remember who we are.
The bar tunes are playing,
and his martini glass is still half-full.
But our hands are laced together,
and his eyes speak forever.
I wonder if he knows
he is gold brighter than bar glows,
the reason why time slows.
I wonder if he knows
his gaze is city light, a star-made spark,
that his presence stays even after dark.
