the newest hit on my island
Stop asking me for vending machines on my beaches!!!!! This is not design by committee!!!!!!!!
the funniest moment in dungeon meshi is when marcille is having her nightmare and brings up her dead bird while also talking about her dead dad, saying “papa and pipi” and laios automatically assumes pipi is marcilles third nonbinary parent on top of her mom and dad
i quite like the term "homosexually tragic", it sounds far more exciting than it is (from @ch4briel)

recently finished cyberpunk. it's become one of my favorite rpg games.
Have been playing dai for some time now and the way HLTA mission is designed really drives me up the wall. Hence the word vomit here.
Okay, here me out, if we use grogblogging's estimate travel times*, inquisitor travels for around 18 days on horseback to reach the Western Approach. There the party presumably spends some time closing rifts, taking over Griffon Wing Keep and investigating Grey Wardens. There we find out what Corypheus is up to and decide to MEET BACK(??) at Skyhold, even though we now know about blood sacrifices. There is no sense of urgency, let's just go back to another country to discuss details, yey! ...So another 18 days pass. There, we plan the strategy, have information that scouts are seeing strange lights coming from Adamant Fortress, so we start preparing for the travel and siege. We have a marching army (I don't believe we have enough carriages or horses to transport them all, in the cutscene we see everyone on foot, unless I'm forgetting something, there is no mention of it) and trebuchets**. Grogblogging estimated that on horseback the whole journey would take around 3 weeks (585 miles) but on foot it would have to extend to at least a full month. So this mission takes more or less two months! And for two months apparently Grey Wardens were very slowly summoning demons and waiting for Inquisition to arrive at their doorstep to have their grand finale with Clarel. I just… you don't feel like that much has passed, it's not indicated at all. The logistics look like they were completely thrown out the window here and all of it feels like a series of bad decisions that only work out because we're the protagonist.
I understand that Bioware had (or more like decided) to give players as much freedom as possible, so they could level up before the main quest, progress somewhere else or go to WEWH instead if they chose to. For me personally, that was not the best decision, but it was probably the easiest one given the game/money/mechanics limitations and the time constraints when they suddenly had to turn this game into an open world (thanks to Skyrim craze according to Mark Darrah). That or they simply did not care in the slightest how long inquisitor's travels would actually take.
How I think it would work better is that after we find out what Grey Wardens are up to and take over Griffon Wing Keep, we could turn it into our temporary but actual base of operations. From there we could plan, do local war table missions, send messages in one day*** to Skyhold and most importantly command the march (and level up if necessary). That would save us over 3 weeks while Erimond is just vibing and not doing anything like speeding up things even though thanks to him Inqusition knows Corypheus' exact plans. Or I guess if we're being generous to the dumbest villain in dai, we could assume that during that estimated month Erimond was speeding things up and normally it would take much longer to take control over all mages and summon every possible demon. In the meantime, while we're waiting for our forces, we could close the rifts, deal with Venetori and darkspawn, cover more land and prepare. Of course this is just my opinion and how that mission would work better for ME personally. I'm not a game designer so it's just that imagined "in a perfect world" scenario.
*grogblogging on tumblr estimated time travel across whole Thedas, using scale Bioware's official statements. Even if we assume that they chose an incorrect scale (because Bioware was changing the size of Thedas like 8 times), I don't believe there is a significant difference. **I also don't believe we brought them from Skyhold, because the road to the fortress is a mountain pass and there should not even be a paved road if it was hidden for centuries. We probably had to get them on our way to the Western Approach. ***Again I'm relying on Bailey's estimation of the distance ravens and pigeons can cover.
