TRUE STORY

One morning, I was awakened by a knock at the door. I rolled out of bed, threw a blanket over my shoulder because it was cold, and made my way to the front of the house. I opened the door and a very nice Mormon lady handed me a pamphlet and launched in to a well-rehearsed spiel about accepting jesus in to my life when she stopped mid sentence and gave me a peculiar look. I used this pause in her speech to politely decline her offer and wish her a pleasant morning. It wasn’t until I looked at what she handed me that I understood why I stopped her in her tracks and then proceeded to laugh for the next half hour by myself.

The final update is coming. We won’t know how long it’ll be until then, but it’ll be worth the wait. When the final panels and the big animated finale are posted, the fandom will practically explode all over the internet, Homestucks old and new, tumblr and other sites alike, with feelings and fanart with a sense of “We did it. The kids did it.”

We’ll think back on all the previous updates that made us laugh, or the ones that made us panic or cry because someone was about to die. When the betas and the alphas got the tiger, when Gamzee flipped his shit and eventually became one of the most hated characters in the comic, or maybe just when John was goofing around at home on his birthday.

We’ll think of all the friends we met, all the art and fanfiction we made that made us better artists, how a single webcomic had such a significant impact on our lives. Sure, a lot of us may cry, but it won’t be over then. The game is coming, too. And when the fandom has stopped crying over the final update, we can talk about our progress in the video game. You might think that after everyone finishes the game that people will start to leave the fandom. That might be true, but there will always be the Homestucks that keep their silly urls and Homestuck related blogs. There will still be people writing AUs and fanfiction, making art, and maybe a few RPers will float around msparp. It’s not like other fandoms haven’t done it.

And, of course, the most important part! Hussie plans to make another comic! A whole new fandom will be born! There is absolutely no way Hussie’s fans will all just abandon him after Homestuck is over. Whatever it is, we can all cry about it together after Homestuck is over.

I love you, Homestuck fandom. I am so, so proud of you.
