image text ID/ [ denji’s story and chainsaw man in general is a disquisition of humanity and what happens when someone is deprived of it. on all levels of society denji had had his humanity stripped of him for the benefit of each respective abuser; politically, he was forced to work for a public bureau until he died—in a similar way he was dragged into poverty, away from any peers and alternate support systems, so the yakuza could profit off his father’s mistakes without risk of denji thinking he deserved otherwise. interpersonally barring power all the women in his life took advantage of his low standards and lack of grasp on his devilmanness to reap their own benefits. denji was deceived by reze into thinking she loved him when it was actually pochita, the inhuman parts of him which she coveted; makima groomed him in order to seize the chainsaw devil and satisfy her one unattainable desire for an equal-leveled partner. both in body and mind, by practically everyone hed been close to, denji was considered a resource to exploit and sell off and discard once he was expended, which is why his change of heart in the last chapters was so emotionally cathartic. previously convinced his low standard of living was adequate because no one had ever said otherwise, after recognizing his own humanity and the abuse he endured as it was (undeserved) he can see selfishly and acknowledge his inherent selfishness as a human being ]
