I am saddened at the events that just occurred. I stopped at a local overlook near my home when a woman began screaming at me about stalking her. She whips out her phone, starts taking pics and video of me, ranting and raving about how she "has me". When I had enough of her instability, I called the sherriffs dept about her mental state. She saw me on the phone, walked over to her SUV, began slinging backpacks over her shoulder with other various pieces. She took off walking towards the elementary school. I told dispatch that she was heading that way. An officer was there within 2 minutes. I filled him in as we walked in her direction. I said I would stay back. Minutes later, I could hear him talking to her. I know this officer to be a multiple tour Marine so she was in good hands. He came back out of the woods and I asked if she was ok?
He replied softly "she's a vet and she's going through a very rough time right now. I need to do a few things but you're free to go."
We all see the posts about PTSD. Today, it hit home for me. I am saddened in my soul that this beautiful woman is still fighting battles in her mind. Her mind must be a horrific place during this time. My hope is that she finds the peace to regain what she's lost sight of, she finds solutions to help her deal with this trauma, and most of all...she finds herself again as I'm sure she was once a beautiful and bright young lady.
If you pray, please remember all vets. Just because they're no longer boots on the ground doesn't mean their battles have ended either😔
