Downloading my shit off D&D Beyond and cancelling my subscription. Time to go back to my fucking roots.

If you haven't been following the OGL 1.1 debacle - it's gotten worse! They want to lock D&D Beyond behind a 30$ month subscription, with different tiers, with the lowest not allowing you to use homebrew - as if their shitty ass books offer you anything substantial to run a campaign from. They've been putting everything on the DM's for a long time. They'll also be offering what is essentially a 'game pass', and wanting to offer stripped down AI-DMs. If AI art pisses you off, then so should this.

If you have one, cancel your sub and download the PDF's of anything you've bought/made on D&D Beyond. Don't go see the movie. They need to get a good slap around the head for this.

Why would I be embarrassed for having interests I enjoy? My guess is that you’re really, really young. And that maybe you don’t actually have solid relationships with adults who have lives outside of parenting or work. But I hope for you that when you’re my age you have hobbies that bring you happiness. And that by that point you realize that trying to shame someone for being an adult only makes you look too immature to be in adult spaces, which Tumblr is.

When I was 20, I loved music, making art, writing and reading good stories, fashion, talking about popular culture, making friends, going to concerts… You’d be surprised how little changes when you’re my age. I just have way more money and time to enjoy those things now. I’m only 55. I’m not dead. I’m also not a “granny”, but even if I was, I’d probably still like all of those things.

Ageism isn’t cute, love. And I sure don’t ever see people telling men they shouldn’t go to football games or have their little “fantasy football leagues” or wear their favorite player’s merch. For every comment you guys like to say is misogynistic (but isn’t), this is one that really reeks of it.

Just turned 70 this last May. 

I am a fan. I’ve been a fan of one or another book series, TV show or comic since I was eight. I’ve been in organized, convention-going and print-based fandoms since I was old enough to vote. My generation invented online fandoms, and I’ve been in them from almost the very beginning of online. I’ve been on CompuServe and AOL and LiveJournal and the other earliest platforms where fandom congregated: Tumblr’s merely one of the newer ones. 

If some adorable, entitled, wet-behind-the-ears wee nonny thinks they’re going to roll up and have a little self-righteous fun shaming some senior Tumblrina into buggering off of here because she’s An Old—and should therefore (by their way of thinking) be embarrassed for enjoying the manifestation of her continuing passion for the best in media along with others, in long-standing community— Well, they’ve got another think coming. 

…And oh yeah: You don’t like it? Then just get off our lawn, sweetiecakes. We were here long before you were, and (if you’re so easily embarrassed) we’ll still be here long after you’re gone. :)

I mean, this isn’t entirely true. These pictures might be a grouping of living cells at 9 weeks, but it isn’t a fetus at 9 weeks. Here is a picture of our ultrasound from 8 weeks. You can tell fairly easily that it’s the start of a baby, even if it isn’t quite there yet.

The line down the back is the start of their spine and the head is easily distinguishable from the body, as is the bit of arm starting on the top.

Now, is this a viable baby yet? Definitely not, not without a lot more growing to do still.

I’m as pro-choice as the next person, but we have to make sure that our arguments are as sturdy and logical as they can be lest we fall into the same trap the pro-lifers tend to use with wildly inaccurate extremes.

Edited to add: Apparently these pictures come from an article from The Guardian. They show pictures of the gestational sac at varying weeks, not the actual fetus itself.

I made an embarrassing mistake earlier today. As I understood it, these images are the gestational sac, not the fetus itself, which as you can see, looks differently in the ultrasound. We’re still talking about groups of cells that are growing, so the fundamental issue is unchanged, but facts matter and I made a factual error that I need to own.

Republicans are still garbage. Republicans still want to treat all women like they have no bodily autonomy.

That ultrasound isn’t yet a person, though I’m sure their mother loves them as if they are, which makes it all the more horrifying that any politician (or bounty hunter, in Texas) would decide to involve themselves in her life and her pregnancy, in any way.

Women’s rights are human rights.
