What video game has the best opening scene or level?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
i'm not picking a best, but i will pick a few i found pretty memorable and effective
Horizon Zero Dawn: loved that the starting bit, where the game teaches the player the controls, had us play as child Aloy. not just good for the backstory of Rost and Aloy, but also immersive—it makes sense that a little kid is still learning how to move lol
Dragon Age Origins: loved having different backgrounds that echo through the rest of the game. these were all really good at introducing the setting, from different perspectives, and establishing your player character.
Okami: look, this is still my favorite game all these years later, so i'm almost certainly biased. loved how the game immediately swept me into a fairy tale.
honorable mentions to Stray, Gris, Ghost of Tsushima, and Baldur's Gate 3 for having an opening experience fully ground the player in the character's emotional state for the rest of the game.

What game made you rage quit the hardest?

ori and the blind forest. the sequence with the tree and the flood.
just 30min straight of me attempting a 30sec sequence, cursing the whole time before finally rage quitting. i did come back to finish the game though!

Hardest part of writing is accepting that some people will not fucking get it & you just have to like cope with that because over-explaining it just makes it worse
I will not over-explain my art to the stupidest people on earth. I'm writing for people who know what I'm talking about. Mantra that will save you. David Lynch was right
moon bead 🌙
[image ID: a watercolor fox peeks around a crescent moon. The moon hangs from a string. Other strings stretch across the image with stars dripping off them. The scene is held within an arched shape with long vines stretching up both sides.]
Can't be sincerely dark without being called edgy, can't be sincerely emotional without being called melodramatic, can't be sincerely silly without being called stupid. They're gonna hate every emotion you put in your art no matter what so make it anyway and be as sincere as you can be
i hope you write (i hope we both write)

Did you know that many gastropods can create a pearl, including terrestrial snails? The difference is nacre which is only found in some species of mollusks and which which gives pearls their beautiful shine. Terrestrial snails occasionally produce very small translucent white pearls which are usually lost. One non-nacre secreting sea snail, the melo melo, produces gorgeous pearls that are extremely prized and rare.
Conches can also produce pearls.
Paua (also called abalone) can make pearls as well- though they are only half-pearls (called mabel pearls)
