The prince has been cursed, forcing him to live the rest of his life as a woman. At least that's the story the royal family is going with, because apparently an "unbreakable genderswap curse" is (sadly) much more acceptable than the princess being trans.

Oh and another thing I forgot to mention about that whole "was Lily's death a suicide or sacrifice" thing. I don't know if I'd call it a literal suicide (but again, the discussion should not be about whether or not it "technically" counts but rather the undertones here), but the letters to everyone felt dangerously similar to suicide notes to me... ☹️ Again, perhaps not a literal suicide but it very much felt like a metaphor for it

People need to understand that writers often write things after observing things in the real world. They are NOT inside the story. They didnt write this "sacrifice" properly. Yes to an extent it is a sacrifice, but its suicidal in nature and the writers handled it badly

Yeah. This is what people mean when they say all art is political. They really mean to say that art is culture and is a reflection of the world surrounding the artist, which creates a cycle where fiction impacts reality and reality impacts fiction

I actually just can't think of a way to execute this and make sense. Even putting the pro suicide undertones aside, the narrative had repeatedly taught us that suicide is a bad thing anyway so it wouldn't make sense either way.

I don't think Lily should've died at all considering the way her story was going. Seeing a suicidal character overcome the "death flags" (that were honestly really so obvious that it would've made more sense for her to defy our expectations and live instead) would've been so powerful, especially when Lily's whole character is about defying destiny in the name of freedom. All the foreshadowing means is that she wasn't able to free herself from that fate

Lily was just starting to get better and had just finally learned the meaning of life only to still die like this. This was such a strange way to wrap up her character

That first paragraph is moreso a comment on a whole different discussion- the philosophical debate over whether or not all art is "political", which is actually something I'm kind of on the fence about. You said "writers often write things after observing things in the real world", and it reminded me of that debate because that's the exact argument people often use to prove that all art is political. All art is a reflection of the world surrounding the artist, which means every work of art has a bit of politics behind it... That's the argument, anyway. I recommend doing some digging into that philosophy because it's pretty interesting

Also, when I said I can't think of a way to execute this, I meant to say that because some people seem to think that Lily dying could've been good if it were "executed better", but I don't think there's a good way to execute a suicidal character sacrificing themselves for the happy ending because that trope inherently has some dark undertones behind it and Lily's character was about resisting fate and staying alive any damn way lmfao

And yeah...they were writing a character who had survived so much...ofc everyone would hate an ending where we saw her die after watching her overcome obstacles in her path and surviving despite whatever life threw at her.

I think some people don't seem to realize that Sage has a lot of respect for Truthless. He even thinks that Truthless' way of protecting cookies is his own valid truth. In the story for their costume set, he was very excited to see him (the story describes him as 'exclaiming delightedly'). Do people really think he doesn't care about Truthless?

I was driving through a new part (for me) of my city the other day, and I saw at least four buildings that had been destroyed, burned down, or heavily damaged. One of them was a shopping centre near my college, a place where we, students, used to buy food all the time. It wasn't the first ruined/damaged building I had seen, as my college was once one of many too, but seeing so many at once still hit hard.

Seeing those places reduced to ruins made me feel devastated. And it made me wonder: was this how Healer felt when he first saw the Vanilla Kingdom destroyed? When he looked around at the wreckage and when later he realized that it was his kingdom?

That thought is what led to this drawing.

The architecture is mostly freestyled and probably isn't entirely canon-accurate, but I was aiming to capture an emotion more than accuracy.
