POWER/TALENT DESCRIPTION: Poppy was taught to shoot a gun by her grandfather General Sam Lane when she was old enough to hold one. She learned watching her mother’s actions as they travelled on the road, eventually becoming part of ‘the pitch’. Lucy started teaching Poppy flexibility and reflexes from a young age through calling it ‘dance practice’. 

WEAKNESSES: Mortality. Though she’s pretty tough, Poppy has no superhuman powers or defenses and could be prone to illness or injury. Poppy also struggles with intimacy and trust issues, due to her upbringing being on the road alongside Lucy.

ORIGIN STORY BULLET POINTS

Raised by Lucy Lane on the road constantly and without having much stability. Often Poppy would lack adult supervision and be left to her own devices.

Occasionally, Lucy would leave her in the care of her father General Sam Lane. He taught Poppy some proper self defense from an early age, and began teaching her how to shoot a gun (Lucy ended up finishing the lessons). 

Other times, Poppy was left in the care of Jimmy Olsen. Lucy’s on and off again relationship (more so off then on, after Poppy was born). It was through Jimmy’s care Poppy had met her uncle and aunt, Clark Kent and Lois Lane. After learning of this, Lucy stopped leaving her with him. 

Lucy would always tell Poppy that everyone else was looking down on them, that they had to prove everybody wrong. You couldn’t trust anybody, not even family. 

She watched her mother go through phases. Sometimes she would be conning people for the challenge of it, sometimes she joined the DEO and was as professional as could be, and sometimes Poppy lived amongst a cult for a year or two because her mother got taken by their ways. Lucy was flighty, and in her flight she took Poppy along. 

By the time she was an adult and free to make her own choices, never settling down took it’s toll upon Poppy. She didn’t know how to make a home, how to make friends, or even feel comfortable anywhere. Everything felt temporary. 

Poppy reached out to her grandfather, who suggested LKU.

“i’d understand the other person. since i won’t give a second chance.” he replied to her. “ people should see what’s right and wrong. i won’t get mad if you eat my special cookie but if you hurt my feelings one i won’t be able to talk to you ever again.” theo tried to explain to her. “i’ll never know i guess.”

“right and wrong are very flexible things.” poppy retained. “i have the oldest question in the book for you ready to go-- if someone steals bread too feed their starving family, thoughts?” was it a crime? a crime for a good read? or just far too complex to cast judgements? she chuckled at him. “if you care about them enough that they could hurt you, maybe reconsider that second chance.” she suggested. “not everybody could get so close, must mean something special.”

THORN ISLEY. 

Thorn grinned at her. “Of course not,” she said comfortably. She knew she was gorgeous – so what if she was green? She owned it. She snorted. “Yeah, well, that’s not my fault,” she quipped. “Buy a calendar and work on it.” She sighed, glancing over at her friend and shrugging her shoulders. “Who the hell knows?” she sighed, taking a look around the campus as they sat there. “This place is a goddamn circus, and the fact that they try to exert any authority over us is absolutely insane.”

“A circus we all mostly willingly became a part of.” Sure half the campus had jail hanging over their head, but the other half made a choice. Including Poppy herself. It was a choice she wondered about more then once. She didn’t know if it was regret, confusion or pride? Who was to say. “For the most part.” It boggled her mind still that Waller-Fury pulled that shit on them, and their parents may have signed off. “This whole place is insane honestly.” Poppy was familiar with insanity like an old friend (not her, more so Lucy on a bad day) but nonetheless this was a new breed of it. “Who knows whats next.” She mused.

“I’m no medic but I do know this one trick.” Ren told her as he knelt down beside the girl. Taking her hand in his own and bringing it to his lips. Leaving a gentle kiss along the bruising on her knuckles. “Feel better, yet?” Warren questioned, glancing up at her with his dark eyes. A smile parting his lips. 

“A trick?” Amusement quirked at her expression at the mention. He knelt beside her, and a sweet laugh left Poppy’s lips. “The oldest trick in the book.” Her knuckles still felt like garbage, but her mood was for sure lifted by the gesture. “Yeah,” She told him. “Feelin like a little kid again could make anybody feel better I think.”

MAR’I GRAYSON. 

Mar’i shrugged. “You know the twins. They are just like their dad. Putting the world before themselves.” she shrugged. She did miss Jordan and Jon, but if Clark needed them, she knew ust have been important. “well enough. They’ll send contact if they get the chance. I’m going to try and keep up with all the class work theyre gonna miss that way they aren’t too far behind.” she told Poppy. “anyway, what about you? Are you alright?”

The truth was that Mar’i probably knew the twins better then Poppy did. She wasn’t ashamed per say but more, maybe a little envious and a lot frustrated at Lucy’s machinations. “Funny to think we’re here studying and they’re-” A pause, a chuckle building in the back of her throat. “-saving the world.” It was beyond funky to think about that, and unsure how else to cope with it- she laughed. “That’s pretty cool of you to do that for them.” Poppy barley wanted to keep up with her own school work, let alone two other people’s. Mar’i had a great deal more willpower then she. “Me? Ah, I’m just hanging I guess. I’m cool?” That sounded more like a  question, oops. “Adjusting I guess.” Quick to deflect, she asked. “And you?”

AUSTIN LEBEAU.​

Austin quietly approached the two, a glare on his face as he stared down the asshole in front of Poppy. While he had only caught bits and pieces of the conversation, he’d heard enough to be reminded of classic douchebag behavior. This dude was already giving him a headache with his mental gymnastics and Austin was a mere bystander. He crossed his arms over his chest as he arched an eyebrow at the other male, the words ‘Your move’ hung unspoken in the air. He politely cleared his throat then questioned, “Well? You heard her, you know your options.”

It was a relief to see a familiar face, someone who would have her back if this asshole made a move and Poppy would need to too. Someone to say he threw the first punch after she makes a bruise out of the guy. A witness. She glared without an ounce of holding back, and finally the guy backed up. Putting his hands into the air with mock surrender, Poppy felt compelled to kick him but held herself back. He wasn’t worth the effort. “Thanks for the backup.” She spoke to Austin, gratitude on her face.

“Well then cousin will do, I already have to deal with Jon and Jordan calling me their niece when we’re practically the same age.” she complained. “Yeah.” Daphne let out a genuine laugh. “I’d rather be on summer break in Themyscira where there’s a lot less school politics and people but here we are.” she waved her hand about finally shutting her book.  

“Cousin sounds like a god place to land.” Not that she was much of a lander, landing and flying was more of her cousin’s thing. Now all three of them. “You could always get them back by calling them Uncle Jon or Jordan.” She suggested and a cackle left her as more ideas formed. “You could get them a world’s greatest uncle matching t-shirts.” what a present that would be! “themyscira.” Poppy mused the worst with a keen interest. “Tell me what it’s like there.” She’d heard the barest bit about it but she was all too interested.

     Hazel just smiled gently at Poppy, used to the intensity of the other girl by now. “Looks like you’re staying here, creep. Have a nice day” she smiled sarcastically before turning her back on him and linking her arm through Poppy’s. “I think now would be a good time to get out of here. What can we do that’s going to make your day better?” she asked, raising a brow as she began to gently pull her away from the tree. 

Linking her arm with Hazel’s, a broad smile embarked upon Poppy’s face. “My hero.” Her tone was teasing but full of affection for her friend. “Well, getting out o here is already a solid start. I’m thinking.... tacos? Tacos make everything better I think.” A little giggle left her lips at the suggestion, it felt nice to just go to hang out with someone and enjoy herself. “Are tacos good for you or you thinking something else? I have an open palette.” She told her.

     “I’m going to need you to back the hell away from my friend” Hazel spoke firmly as she approached, the leaves on a nearby tree crisping as they browned before inevitably falling to the ground, exposing the branches that she watched grow and wind around the man that had been bothering Poppy, yanking him back against the tree’s trunk as she smirked, settling by her friend’s side. “Do you want me to leave him there? Because I will”

Thank the fucking lord for Hazel Isley. It was something Poppy had thought before and she was sure she’d find herself thinking it again one of these days. The girl was a presence in her own self, and she held power behind her words along with the actual bitching plant power. “You may not want to leave that choice with me,” She warned her with affection deep in her tone. “Had it my way the fucker would be an actual tree.” Perhaps she was too vicious, but Poppy had little else in her to be anything less.

theo raised a brow. “why is it dangerous?” he asked crossing his arms. “i’d feel safer not being around people who i need to give second chance too. and i’m not that kind of person either.” theo added with a shrug.

her brow quirked at his reasoning. “and one day, what if you need a second chance?” poppy knew she sure did, more then once or even twice. “people learn through fucking up.” she stated quite bluntly. “you don’t give them the chance to learn, then what’s the point of doing anything?” there was none, there would be nothing left after that.

Ben took off his headphones when he realize someone was talking to him and sat down on the mat to rest. “It’s pretty much a free for all unless they have a sign up on the front when it’s being used for a class.” He said before getting up to move his stuff. “Sorry I kind have a mess with all my things.”

“Love me a free for all.” Often because Poppy found herself winning them, she had her ways and the sharp sense of conviction Lucy had taught her was something of a great help. Her shoulder’s shrugged at his apology. “You get comfortable easily.” She noted it quite clearly. “Nothin to apologize for.” It just was, and if anything she was jealous of the trait.

Thorn snorted softly as Poppy spoke. “That’s just my face,” she said. “And it’s exquisite, for what it’s worth.” She shrugged. “I’m not up to anything, I swear,” she said. “Maybe you’re just projecting because you’re bored and you want to plan something.” She smirked. “Which I get. This place has really been a drag since homecoming.”

“You won’t find me disagreeing with that.” She gave a wiggle of her brow in a faux flirtatious gesture. “I mean I am bored, but I’m not much of a planner.” Spontaneous was what was in her blood, Lucy taught her as much. She let out a chortle at Thorne’s mention of homecoming. “Yeah, that had been one hell of a something.” It was a funny reminder of the place they were in. “You think anything else gonna happen with Halloween?” She didn’t know if she hoped so or not.

Her head tilted, observing the girl she once heard had starshine in her eyes. Her eyes were really shiny, Poppy would admit. “So, besides that moot point, how did it go?”

Poppy listened as he spoke, not fully attentive but not utterly disengaged. She was a firm between on the two. “Yeah, well,” She said. “Not giving people a second thought…that can be dangerous.” Lucy certainly proved as much during their adventures during Poppy’s childhood. She saw the woman, her mother, abuse it to her own advantage again and again.
