I’m thankful for my old experiences that brought me here. I’m good with a tape measure and usually get thrown onto the saw whenever I’m on site. Most people laugh at me for being a cabinet maker because I’m used to a closer detail than “rough framing” really needs. It’s not that bad to measure something twice and to only cut it once. Why not aim for the absolute perfection? To me, if there is a shot in the dark then there is a possibility. I found an old fear to conquer the other day as I faced vertigo again. I laugh because at the top of the ladder is a little sign saying “you can lose your balance” - like I really needed the reminder that far up.. between measurements and cuts, I ended up climbing up and down at least twenty times. I had to shake my wiggles out but got all my cuts done. Props to those who can handle this daily! I love the times where personal affirmations are the only thing keeping the go together. “One step at a time. Depending on the day, I’m kinda thrown into anywhere. Personally I have to be working to feel good about my days. Ended up moving about 3,000 lbs of sheetrock and then installed it for a new basement. Had a couple awesome puzzle pieces and got to play with some rad technology. Lots of work but good music makes the difference. I’m back... back in the construction business for multimillion dollar homes... Night and day switch. Literally. I’ve had to be honest with myself and do what I’m good at. I’m a builder. I’m a craftsman. I’m now the foreman... Im doing site management and it’s kind of the perfect spot for me. So far I have about 6-7 homes I’m working with. I basically prep and help the sub contractors along the way. Every day is different and it keeps my mind going. One day is setting gravel, another is final fixes and finishes and the next I’m building a deck and patio. Whatever’s next and priority in the building process is basically my day. So far the fanciest of the projects is across the street from Alta ski resort. They’re renting each floor for $2,000 a night... the Christmas booking was $30k for both floors for the week! It’s the only other kitchen I know of that’s built from African mahogany and the other one was the one I built two years ago... that’s a really cool feeling... My work in the past as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker in Park City has really paid off and I’m thankful to be back into it. Muscle reflex is amazing and I’ve already been able to jump right in and know what I’m doing. Even remembering to account for the 1/8 inch width of the saw blade while measuring was a relief to remember. Knock on wood but so far I’ve done well! I’ve only taken one nail through the finger so far so that’s good.. It’s been humbling and yet so empowering. It’s brand new, yet so familiar. Like deja vu in a place you’ve never been. What an insane year... A life changer honestly... Still kicking through it... Still smiling... Being back in the city has been a hell of a ride and honestly I’ve felt like Tom Hanks from “Cast Away” as I’ve been adjusting to traffic and convenience. For three years I was in the boonies and the woods. It’s now taken over a year to recalibrate back to being part of society again. This was a huge reason I’ve tried to find jobs at night. I wanted to be away from society. The noise alone of helicopters, traffic, neighbors, sirens, TVs, commercials and everything else has been insane. It’s a constantly moving machine... the American dream keeps marching forward. I’ve tried to find jobs with graveyards just to avoid people but it’s finally time that I emerge to the daylight and participate in society again. Dimension jumping and finding the best version of myself hasn’t been easy but well worth the ride. I’m thankful to be where I am and I see a positive future ahead. One step at a time I’m getting this momentum back. This last year I fell and I fell hard. The dust has finally settled and I’m finally on two feet again. There’s movement and evolution happening and I can feel it. It’s been a super power to stay optimistic through it and I’m thankful to keep my eyes up. Replace fear with curiosity and watch how the sun always comes up. Every day is different and always brings something True. An ode to Crow and the Pitcher... So I left the bar... it sucks but life moves on. There’s always going to be a part of me there. I had an offer I couldn’t refuse and had to leave the business. It’s been a literal night and day switch back to society. I’m in a new dimension again... Let me explain why I put my love into this business in the first place. This is a “Mom and Pop” from New Jersey - built from the ground up “one pebble at a time...”. They had an idea and created it. They absolutely nailed it guys. They have an amazing courtyard with fire, the classic old wooden bar and brick walls, a perfect game and pool room, good music and not to mention - some of the best food in town ;)! Bosses, staff and the locals were all some of the best people I’ve met in a long time. Real people and True people. Billy Joel’s “Piano man” is one of the best representations of the bar scene and I’m so thankful for the experience. I learned a lot about myself and the stories I’m walking away with are ones for the books.. Thank you to the “Murder Crew” for creating probably the coolest “hole in the wall bars” I’ve ever been to. I’m thankful for the opportunity to work there. It truly was an honor to have found this place, let alone be apart of it for a bit. Ps... a flock of crows is called a “murder of crows” ... Now?
