Last Beat In The Soul || Chanyeol & Mark
"Just ignore them"
The voice in his head kept repeating the same mantra, the same relaxing tone of “just forget it, just live your life.” He wasn’t even thinking about it, as his body just walked on stand by. It had been years now that those things, unseen by the rest of the human population, chased after him without a rest, and there was nothing he could do about it but avoid being the center of attention, because that way it was like he could almost go by unnoticed.
Both hands in his pockets, riding his skateboard, Mark felt something clinging to his shoulder. Unpleasant, he though. Frowning, he growled and thought it would be for the best to just take a shortcut to the nursery. Somehow the presence of his mother made everything better, in a very literal way. It wasn’t until he reached an alley he didn’t recognize that he looked behind him, and it was as if he knew he shouldn’t as soon as his eyes landed on the horrid things that were there, “Shit.”
Every hair on his body seemed to stand up, goosebumps down his spine, teeth shattering. That one was the biggest one he ever saw. Thinking about it, maybe he should run, maybe he should just let it be and someone would find him laying down by the road and take Mark to the nearest hospital. He didn’t have much time to think about it though, because a guy showed up outta nowhere and killed one of the big things.
“Who the hell are you…”, although it sounded more like a whisper. “How can you see them…?”
About to disintegrate another being, Chanyeol paused momentarily when he heard the stranger speak. So the guy was aware of the ethereal things following him. Figuring out he wasn’t dealing with a normal person, he couldn’t help but feel a hint of suspicion, having been in the business long enough to know better than to blindly trust anyone involved with supernatural affairs.
Rationally, he knew the other could be in the same position as him, having the same doubts – he himself wouldn’t follow a random dude using a scarf as a weapon. Although… It was probably just his intuition again, but there was something in his voice, as much as Chanyeol could hear in those short words, that made him want to trust, for a while anyway.
Even so, it made no sense to entertain these sort of thoughts when the entities were so close to them.
The impulsivity of his decision to help had made him oblivious, ignorant to the magnitude of the problem. Now, as he straightened his stance to better defend from any advances, he could feel its power as if it ran under his own skin, making his muscles tense. He could already notice the effects of taking out just one of those creatures, his energy diminishing rapidly. Fighting wasn’t an option.
“We gotta get away, I can’t— No time to explain, just run!” he exclaimed as he erected a defensive barrier, planning on slowing the enemies down so they could get away. He had no idea where to go, but escaping the narrow alley was a priority.
