Rocking Chair that Knits Winter Hats
Rocking Knit is a chair that fashions its user a beanie as they leisurely rock back and forth, activating gears that put the machine to work as its sitter relaxes. The project is in response to the exhibition’s theme, where students were required to deconstruct the fabrication process of a product to a slower, more considered pace. It was shown as part of ECAL’s Low-Tech Factory exposition in Switzerland.
I want to knit while rocking!
The Gunpowder Plot conspirators.
On November 5th, 1605, Robert Catesby led a group of conspirators (including the more famous Guy Fawkes) in a plot to assassinate King James I by blowing up Parliament. Guy Fawkes was responsible for igniting the barrels of gunpowder that the conspirators planned to use, giving rise to his being the best (often the only) known member of the plot in popular culture. The anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot is still known as Guy Fawkes Day (or Night).
The incident is perhaps best remembered today in the lines of a commemorative poem:
Remember, remember the Fifth of November
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot.
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
