AndrƩs Sanjuan by Rainer Torrado
life imitates art and vice versa
The reason it reminds you of a Renaissance paintings is because of how the peopleās gestures and gazes direct your eye between each other and ultimately toward the central motif of the Beib getting choked.
Itās also the colour scheme and the lighting. The deep red and the pale greens, the lighting so dark that some figures are obscured but the others stand out with brighter lighting. Even the circular pattern in the back references halos or other decorative features meant to draw attention. 10/10 good Renaissance art.
And I enjoy the subject matter too.
Itās that phrase: The camera really loves him.

āNever miss a beat. Never miss a beat.ā- Neon Katt.
I admit I fancy myself more of an intellectual, but I can assure you, as a huntsman, Iāve had my fair share of tussles.
Thatās not even to say that Miles, Kerry, or Grayās writing is entirely bad or anything like that, because theyāve had their share of good moments when they contribute to the show.
but itās just bad when they take their jokes way too far instead of delivering content thatās actually funny or engaging
Weāve been on thisĀ āJaune tries too hard with Weissā train for like almost 2 years now. They know its terrible. But they keep writing it and expect it to get funnier the more they try to write it. It doesnāt.
I doĀ wonder how differently āJaune tries too hardā jokes would go if they were written from a woman though.Ā How differently a LOT of jokes or writing would go if they were handed to someone who has experience with the receiving end of such bad moments instead.
Because the thing is, itās not likeĀ āMale character is being a doucheā jokes canātĀ work- but the recurring pattern in RW*BY with these jokes, and their writing in general, is zero accountability, or āpoetic justiceā for being terrible when itās specifically related to their flaws.
Jaune is not getting the hint from Weiss, but heās never called out or confronted about it either. Pyrrha enables himĀ by telling him to drop his gimmicks, instead of being considerate about how Weiss might feel after refusing him so many times. Itās never addressed in canon for the rest of the series.
Jauneās behavior inĀ āChibiā is excused asĀ āitās not canon!ā andĀ āitās just a jokeā even though ladies in the fandom have REPEATEDLY EXPRESSED their discomfort with Jaune acting like this with no accountability or consideration for Weissās feelings, because itās far too similar to how guys behave in real life. And the writers themselves admitted that they wrote Jaune trying to ask Weiss out as a (poorly thought out) joke in canon in the first place.Ā And a lot of ladiesā (as well as other peoplesā) revulsion to Jaune as a character is specifically related to this, along with how he hogs the spotlight, as opposed to sharing it equally with his teammates.
Jaune is never beat up, or confronted in anyway by any characters specifically related to him treating Weiss badly. Weiss walks on screen right after Jaune says heāll give her a piece of his mind, and it wouldāve been a perfect opportunity for her to whoop his ass for how he acted, and it wouldāve been GREAT COMEDY MATERIAL. But it doesnāt happen, because it probably didnāt even cross their mind.
Same thing with Weiss- she never suffers any consequence for her micro and macroaggressive remarks regarding Faunus, except a āstern talking toā from Blake. Even when they find Blake after she runs away, Weiss has to get the last word in, and none of the characters ever state or acknowledge that itās as close as Weiss will get to a proper apology- and itās never inferred that Weiss actually apologizes or atones for making Blake angry.
Same thing with Cardin. We know that he and his team are bullies- but they are never met with consequences specifically related to them being terrible towards Faunus (ie Velvet, Cardinās remarks about how Faunus should be tamed animals during history class) They get their asses handed to them on many occasions, but itās never been shown on screen as a direct result of them being racist. And itās never addressed again.
Itās fine to write sensitive themes, or to write jokes about dudes who donāt handle rejection from someone they like. But they keep making the same mistakes with those themes, and making it more obvious that they canāt write them well, that itād be better to put those kind of things in the hands of someone elseĀ who has experience with those things. Itās why diverse writing teams are important.
Because when you have 3 guys of the same demographicsĀ writing something, a lot of experiences are gonna be mishandled. Itās not that theyāre incompetent writers, but they need to know when to consult, or hand over the reins to someone else.
