You know, what’s interesting is that we don’t know for sure how long Grimoire was affected before Chaos’ attack killed him. Dirge was guilty of a lot of cheap/poorly executed camera tricks to save on animation (I love Dirge, but I’m not going to defend bad shortcuts). We see Grimoire instantly go from claiming he’ll be fine to dying in Lucrecia’s arms (in a strange black void, because BAD SHORTCUTS).
Suppose it was instant. He just collapses after saying he’s fine, and dies right there. Possible, and believable with the aforementioned animation shortcuts. Death comes suddenly, especially when you you keep the apocalypse in a jar in your spooky basement lab.
Suppose it took a while. A day or two, maybe a week? How did it affect his body? Did he know it was coming, or at least suspect it? Did he genuinely think he’d get over it? Given Lucrecia’s shock at his death, he probably didn’t tell her if he knew. (Given her refusal to say “die”, she might not have been able to accept it even if he had told her - but I’m going off US because I can’t remember the exact wording of JP right now.)
And Chaos seems to just settle down after killing Grimoire. At the very least, there’s no mention of him (or it at that point) killing anyone else. Why? And what’s done with the large sample that killed Grimoire? Did it quiet on its own, or was it removed - possibly returned to the cave? Clearly some of it was still in the lab, as Lucrecia used it in her experiments on Vincent.
So yeah, fun stuff to think about.
Ooc, I’ve always had the impression we see Grimoire die at the same cave and in the same spot he was hit by Chaos’ energy? So I thought he died in a matter of minutes?
I've always been under the impression it was almost instant as well, if I'm honest.
