This one is for the mun: first of all this is adorable!! I can't wait to look at this and see the cuteness! Second, do you have any tips for drawing?
[[OOC: Aw, thank you! Iâm glad to hear that you are enjoying the blog. Itâs always uplifting to know that people enjoy the things that you like to do. :) Thank you for stopping by and visiting. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that people like Painter and my work.
As for your question - the only real tips that I can give is that you need to keep going and trying. As long as youâre attempting art, either on paper, on the computer, doodling on napkins or whatever is around you, youâre an artist! Donât be afraid that your drawings arenât âperfect.â Theyâre not going to be. No artist is perfect when it comes to their craft, because we as people are not perfect, and putting that stress on you to become âperfectâ will only limit your abilities. Stressing yourself out over your art can also make you want to give up, and thatâs the last thing you should do. Draw what you like! Iâve always loved Sonic related things, so thatâs what I drew. Eventually I got pretty good at it, in my own way. Iâm nowhere near some of the other artists that I know, but I also donât practice as much as they do. :)
That said - I HAVE gotten better at it over the years, but thatâs from drawing and practicing more. As long as you keep trying, youâll get better!
Another tip that I stress is: KEEP EVERYTHING YOU HAVE WORKED ON. That sketchbook full of âbad doodlesâ from when you were in middle school? Keep it. Do not get rid of it. Put it in a drawer somewhere that youâll find it later on. Why? Because if you throw it away, you have nothing to compare your NEW work to and see how much you have grown.
Nothing makes me sadder than seeing people delete everything off of their personal art space, because later on, they think they havenât progressed because when theyâre working on new pieces, they canât see the comparison to the old work. I learned this the hard way with my writing that I deleted years back when I thought it wasnât âgood enoughâ and now have nothing to compare my new writing to.
Also: your personal style will come with time. Youâll find things that you like to draw a certain way, ink a certain way, stuff like that. I have a particular style that I found over doodling on and off for years, though often I donât consider myself an âartistâ out of just sheer habit (which isnât true because I do draw). Itâs natural to me but say, my friend @carriepika, who runs @askarealscourge, tried emulating my style in an art challenge where she attempted to draw Painter in the way that I draw. She fought with it for like an hour or two and said that it was very hard to do. But for me, trying to emulate HER style is very hard for me. Art is very personal and what we deem as âeasyâ to ourselves is harder for others - thus another reason why you work at it to find what works best for you. :)
Practice lots and over time, youâll get better! Just keep doing it. Hope it helps and good luck with your drawing adventures!]]
