"how are you standing right now?" medic asks, horror splashed across their face. it feels like a dream.
vertigo hooks its claws in whumpee's side and makes them sway. they try grabbing at the nearest fixure— which is caretaker. but no, touching only gets them hurt. the next nearest thing is the stool. they miss.
I'm not, they think blearily before pain eclipses their reality. they'd be laughing if they weren't unconscious.
leader cries out in pain and immediately shouts out to their team. "i'm fine!" they take a sharp breath and glare up at whumper
"why are you lying to them?" whumper whispers. they press the heel of their boot against leader's chest. "they've heard everything. it's no use."
sidekick, the stand-in leader of the team paces the cell and looks anxiously at the hallway where whumper dragged leader down. "if they're still talking, they're still alive."
Your character was unwillingly exposed to a deadly virus/pathogen/bacteria, and has to suffer in isolation. All they want is to be held because they are truly miserable, but the most contact the get is a quick head-pat when someone in an aggressive amount of personal protection brings them their next dose of medicine.
Bonus points if your whumpee isn't one to usually like physical contact, they're just so so sick and tired that they want someone to hold their hand.
it's literally the evilest thing in the world to finally have time to write but then be tired. like wow you're telling me these two hours before going to bed are completely free but my brain is just Not Feeling It? fuck off
Based off of my SOA magic system that should probably post, because yesterday was my birthday, these are basically my truest fave tropes
When heartbreak/grief affects a character's magic
Magic backfiring often having the same effects as a gun backfiring
When the stress and trauma is genuinely killing the character
The variance of scars caused by magic. Necrotic scars from dark magic. Colorful scars from haphazard spellcasting. Lighting scars that refuse to fade. Leathery skin from overuse of fire magic. Discolored fingertips, foggy eyes, rapidly graying hair, gimme gimme gimme
Nose bleeds from overuse? A class. But what about... tinnitus, blurred vision, dizzying, loss of appetite, weight loss, tingling/numbness, loss of balance, paling skin, weakened immune systems, muscular pain, oh I could go on
Soldiers collapsing mid battle from using their magic too much
Squad mates holding up their comrade so that they can keep casting magic, despite their weakness and inability to stand for themselves
Watching magic trace through someone's veins before it conjures into reality

Hey everyone, a quick note from me.
You might have noticed things have been a bit quiet around here lately, and the prompt list didn’t quite make the midnight debut like it was supposed to. Life got a little crazy behind the scenes, and the scheduled posts simply didn't happen. I’m really sorry for keeping you all waiting!
Thank you so much for your patience and for sticking around. The prompts are officially up now, and I’m incredibly excited to see what everyone creates this year.
Let's ease into it and make this event a great one! ✨
he would not fucking say that, but with disability.. he would not fucking be able bodied. sick n tired of characters walking away from multiple life changing injuries without a scratch. let’s get some natural consequences in here.
give that knife/sword fight survivor nerve damage. give the character who was shot in the gut a stoma. give that fire survivor lung damage and an oxygen cannula. give that leg injury survivor a cane. give that starvation survivor gastroparesis. give that spinal injury survivor a manual chair or powerchair.
while we’re at it, give your characters congenital disabilities too, just because. give them intellectual and development disabilities. give them acquired and postviral illnesses. dare to make somebody bedbound. for me.
This post breaching containment has taught me that a lot of people seem to think they can accurately profile complete strangers. For the record, no the fuck you can't.
I love it when a post-whump recovery arc is fluffy but realistic. Like, it's cosy and the whumpee has a gentle support system, but that doesn't stop them from exhibiting the messy and unpalatable symptoms of their trauma. That's my favourite style of recovery arc
character b is laying down, burning with fever. character c comes and frowns. “They’re getting worse,” they murmur, gently placing a cool, wet rag on character b’s forehead. Character b whimpers, not liking the feeling. It burns. They reach up a shaky hand, trying to push the rag off, but character a grabs their hand. “Leave it, kiddo,” they say. “You need it, it’s helping. Don’t touch.”
I love when The Character has a breakdown. Are they gonna go catatonic? Start crying hysterically and can't stop? Get so mad they could blow up a mountain? No matter what it's always fantastic.
Your characters are dealing with some kind of mass casualty event/big mission, and notice that one of their team is missing - the leader.
As the event goes on, they manage to get by until it finally quietens... and they still haven't seen the leader. Attempts are made to contact them, but they're met with radio silence. People are worried, but far too busy to keep wondering.
That is until the leader is brought in much later as one of the patients, as they stayed behind to help despite being hurt in the event themselves. Alternatively, they could walk back into base themselves, tired, battered and bruised and clutching their side as they're desperate for a shower, some clean clothes and their bed.
Nobody can believe it at first, but they're quick to snap from their stupor and continue just as the leader had taught them; doing things by the book in order to save the leaders life.
