The Dawn Court was changing once again. Something that was far from unusual for the city of rose gold and, yet, this time, the cunning spy with golden locks found herself feeling off her footing. She had spent decades climbing her way up from nothing. She had endured a hundred lifetimes worth of pain and loneliness to get to where she stood now- as Elias’ right hand. She was his ears on the ground and his favorite companion to bed and, yet, if the rumors were any indicator, she was about to be replaced as both. It was only a matter of time before that pretty little fiancé of his took her place at his side, while his sister would use her nymphly wiles to procure the information he wanted.
It was tiring to say the least. To watch once again, the life she had built slipping through her fingertips which only reminded her more of the one thing she had been trying her best to ignore. Her family had found their way back to her, finally, after all of this time. And yet what happened when they realized the wide-eyed little girl they had lost had been molded into that of a monster? What then? It was a question Katia didn’t know if she ever wanted answered, so as to not thinking about it any longer, she did the only thing that seemed reasonable to do after exhausting all other forms of potential distractions- she drank.
Cracking open a bottle of champagne, she wandered aimlessly down the empty palace halls until she spotted one handsome prince lounging by himself on a bench overlooking the gardens. “Is this seat taken?” Her voice all, but a soft whisper as she gave the man a light nudge with the tip of her heel. She wasn’t quite sure when her feet had guided forwards onto the balcony beside him, but now that she was here, it seemed a shame to pass up on the possibility of company.
. Ali had been wondering the halls of the Dawn Court alone after stealing an entire cake from the kitchens. He had decided to eat his feelings tonight, Elias would be disappointed either way so at least the chocolate cake he managed to secure would bring him so joy for the evening. He had just about managed to figure out his way around their new home, it was beautiful, far more beautiful than where they lived before but Ali still missed everything about his life prior to coming to Astrails. Now that they were here, the pressure on his shoulders had grown heavier than ever. Taking a seat which had the view of the gardens, he dipped his fork into the cake and took his first mouthful. He had already had a a few glasses to drink that evening, his head was the perfect state of fuzzy, the kind where the cake tasted like the most delicious thing ever. It was the nudge that startled Ali from his thoughts, a huh sound escaping him as he looked up blankly at the female who had approached him and then back down at the seat. He recognised her face, but her name was lost on him, Ali had been meeting too many new people since arriving at Astrails to remember each of their names. “Nope.” he shook his head, taking another mouthful of the cake he was eating. “The seat is all free, but only if you’re planning on sharing that bottle with me.” he held the cake up towards her. “I have cake to offer in return and my delightful company.”
