eden’s  not  here  for  the  spectacle.  she’s  tucked  into  the end  of  the  long  dinner  table,  black  silk  dress,  diamonds  winking  whenever  she  turns  her  head.  champagne  untouched.  a  faint,  knowing  smile  playing  on  her  mouth  as  the  room  hums  with  too  many  introductions  and  even  more  ambition.

conversations  swirl  around  her—loud,  eager,  desperate  to  impress.  eden  just  listens,  absently  tracing  the  rim  of  her  glass,  quietly  ranking  everyone’s  shoes  and  secrets.

a  shadow  falls  across  her  table.  she  looks  up,  meets  their  eyes  with  that  lazy  kind  of  confidence  only  people  born  for  spotlights  can  muster.

“you  gonna  sit?”  eden  asks,  voice  warm  but  edged.  “or  just  planning  to  stand  there  until  the  caviar’s  gone?”

it's  almost  uncanny  at  times  what  a  contrast  taesung  is  beyond  the  headlines,  proclaimed  party  boy  already  in  need  of  fresh  air  an  hour  into  the  continued  festivities.  he'd  settle  for  a  cigarette,  a  dad  habit  that  made  him  recall  a  string  of  curses  from  every  trainer  who'd  told  him  he  was  destroying  his  lungs  and  his  career.  it  was  the  same  every  time,  taesung  full  of  ego  and  telling  them  to  fuck  off  one  way  or  the  other.  he's  at  the  foot  of  the  entrance,  flimsy  stick  unlit  and  hanging  off  his  lips.  "  shit,  thought  everyone  would  be  inside,  "  he  says,  wry  and  semi  -  charming  smile  shot  at  the  blonde.  "  you  don't  mind,  do  you  ?  "  he  asks,  gesturing  to  the  cigarette  waiting  to  be  lit.

odette’s  already  there—perched  on  the  stone  ledge  just  outside  the  entrance  of  l’éclipse,  shoes  off,  heels  dangling  from  two  fingers  like  they  annoyed  her.  the  pulse  of  the  club  is  muffled  through  the  glass  doors  behind  her;  inside,  it’s  all  basslines  and  billionaires,  but  out  here,  it’s  quieter.  cooler.  her  name’s  not  on  the  guest  list,  but  somehow  she’s  always  where  she  isn’t  supposed  to  be.

the  music  behind  her  thumps  like  a  second  heartbeat,  but  out  here  it’s  softer—just  voices,  footsteps,  a  cigarette  hanging  from  someone  else’s  lips.
