Change a single letter and change the word game
I want to play a game with you all.
You have to make a new word by changing only one letter of the last word.
Dirt
surely life cant only be the same unresolved thoughts forever
i wish i didn't care about certain things but i'm stupid and i do
The person I reblogged this from deserves to be happy.
I feel like something I don’t see talked about very often in terms of autism is emotional regulation from the perspective of autistic people
you always hear about how hard it is for parents of autistic children but never how hard it is for the autistic individual
like yes I know getting so angry I feel like I need to scream and kick and cry because I can’t remember where I put my phone is an overreaction to the situation, but all I can feel in my entire body is anger. and maybe it’s because all day I was around people and loud noises and losing something was just the breaking point, I was already overstimulated but this is what made me feel like my entire world was falling apart.
it’s hard to understand how to regulate your own emotions when you’re autistic and overwhelmed and it’s so often this physical pain in your chest like what the fuck do I do with all that.
Recent discourse reminds me of that cult indoctrination trick that's often used to weed out more difficult marks early on, where they tell you all that you aren't allowed to eat rice on Tuesdays and then if you protest they go "wow SOMEBODY likes rice a little much huh" as if you're the fucking weirdo who cares too much about how much rice is consumed between Monday and Wednesday instead of them.
And this forces you to decide whether your autonomy matters to you more than the approval of the group - while they'll still act like you're on thin ice either way, if you give in at this point they know you're theirs forever, because now they've established a foothold, you've shown a moral weakness, which they will brand you with so it can be used against you in the future ("hey RICE-addict here doesn't want help break into the city records office") to force you to double-down and isolate you further.
And if instead you do decide to push back further, after your abrupt departure from the group ("You're seriously leaving us over RICE?!? Seriously?") and subsequent ostracism, you can then be used as a demonstration to the others who were more pliable, of how the outgroup is full of people like you who are obsessed with violating the No-Tuesday-Rice rule to the point where they'll abandon all their friends, who cared so much for them, so it clearly isn't an arbitrary restriction, you're the kind of monster these rules are intended to protect them from, thus all the other wise and esoteric precepts of the charismatic leader are implied to be equally justified.
This isn't just for cults either! Shitty partners, bosses, friends - they all do variants of this where if you kick back the first time they make an unreasonable request, it proves you weren't ever committed since you'd let such a small thing ruin everything. And of course, if it's the third or the tenth unreasonable thing they ask of you, it's SUCH A SMALL THING to be a deal-breaker at this late point in your relationship!
unintentional subtext is not queerbaiting. intentional subtext is not queerbaiting. queercoding is not queerbaiting. queer themes are not queerbaiting. queer themes in works by cishet creators are still not queerbaiting. writers of any gender identity/sexual orientation seeing fans pick up on queer themes and intentionally playing up those themes as much as they can get away with are not queerbaiting. chemistry between actors is not queerbaiting. chemistry between actors who then decide it’s more interesting that way and lean into it is not queerbaiting. a real cishet person behaving in ways that do not perfectly and completely fit with your idea of what cishet people of their gender are supposed to be is not queerbaiting. I am going to scream
fellow writers, a question for you. what are we doing when our imagination starts outpacing our skill a lot. I know that taste is always running ahead of ability, but I feel like I spent 2022/2023 making massive improvements in my writing and for the past few months it feels like I'm a kid with crayons trying to paint the sistine chapel. I've been reading craft books and doing exercises and all that I just feel stuck!
Start by pinning down exactly what you want to be improving. Is it character interactions? World building? Word choice? Dialogue? Focus on one piece at a time. Trying to do it all at once just gets messy.
From there, I really enjoy novelizing my favorite TV shows and movies (you could easily do it with podcasts to). Now, I'm not talking fanfiction here. I mean taking a scene from a non-written form of media and writing it out one to one. Keep the exact dialogue, the exact actions, the exact happenings, just write it all out.
I find this helpful because it sort of takes imagination out of the equation and lets you focus JUST on craft. You don't have to worry about world building or character building or plot, you're just focusing on the writing itself. How do you portray the moment Eddie finds Buck after the tsunami and realizes Chris isn't with him? How do you take the emotions that Ryan and Oliver mostly portrayed on their faces with stuttering, cut off scraps of dialogue and convey the same thing through writing? What's the difference if you do it from Eddie's perspective vs. Buck's? Why are you making the choices you are to portray those things? If something isn't converting well, how can you come at it differently?
Sometimes its also fun to get a little more fanfictiony with it, and fill in the gaps in media while keeping it 100% within canon. Touch more creative freedom that way, but still some pretty decent bumpers to keep you focused on what you're trying to learn from the exercise.
“Why should rich people pay more” because fuck ‘em
“So you are okay for paying more when you have money” I am not excluded from ‘fuck ‘em’ when relevant
“I am not excluded from ‘fuck ‘‘em’ when relevant” is surprisingly powerful as both a statement and philosophy
you will live and you will say the wrong things and make mistakes and people will love you anyways.
i made this post because i've got so many friends that think saying something wrong in a conversation is the end of the world. it isn't. you'll be okay. you don't have to be embarrassed about every little thing. you are alive and doing things and speaking to people. you will make mistakes and you will live.
when you’re reading fanfiction and you get so involved in the story you start imagining different scenarios in that same universe and then it’s fanfiction fanfiction

Due to an influx of abusive spam comments on April 21, 2024, we temporarily disabled all guest comments across the site. We have now re-enabled the ability to leave guest comments, but if you comment while not logged into an account, you may encounter a verification page that checks that you are not a bot. We are also working on other ways to help reduce spam, including a small change to the default comment settings on the work posting form that will be rolled out soon.

Just in case anyone doesn’t read AO3 news religiously — there is a pretty significant change coming. Currently the default setting for fics is that registered users and guests are able to comment; once this change rolls out, the default will become that only registered users will be able to comment. You can change it back in your user settings.
It’s case by case whether this is likely to affect you. I find some genres of fics get mostly guest comments and others don’t get many. Either way, you can pick which you want to do.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!
If a website has a paywall, like New York Times, DO NOT use the ctrl+A shortcut then the ctrl+c shortcut as fast as you can because then you may accidentally copy the entire article before the paywall comes up. And definitely don't do ctrl+v into the next google doc or whatever you open because then you will accidentally paste the entire article into a google doc or something!!!! I repeat DO NOT do this because it is piracy which is absolutely totally wrong!!!
Also do NOT append "12ft.io/" before a URL ! Typing an URL like this https://12ft.io/<URL> will redirect to a site that would break the display of the page by removing the paywall !
Honestly it's kind of prohibited to mash CTRL+P before some paywall windows can load in to get a PDF of the article. Really shouldn't be done tbh very dangerous🤷🏿♂️ ❌️
