mr-snarkshark!
“Oh my my my~ Aren’t you zhe curious vone, hmmmm?”
Forcing himself to his feet with a quick stretch, the head of leviathan’s claw looked over the boy carefully with those calculating eyes. He tapped on his chin rhythmically with the bottom of the pen in his hand. This boy was naive, perhaps a little dim…..though it really was hard to tell with some of these guild folk, gruffness didn’t always translate to a lack of intelligence. After all…he was related to Don Whitehorse, and Yeager both knew and respected the man and his station. But you couldn’t really count on that sort of thing to…carry on in later generations.
The boy was a hard worker, but a little too serious for Yeager’s taste. He could use a splash of fun in his presentation when speaking to people! It certainly wouldn’t kill him to have a little more personality.
Though he was tired, the man was not about to divulge anything to do with his personal life to the young man that stood before him now. He’d change subject, dance around the topic…add a bit of flare, and have fun with it! But ultimately, his aim was to make sure that Harry left without knowing even a spec of information about the man that he hadn’t already known.
“….Alvays vorking so haaaard! Truly your grandpa-pa is appreciative of all zhat you do for him, ja? I’ve never seen somevone run around so much for zhe sake of just thinking zhe vone you care about is in need! It’s inschpiring! Perhaps my girls could learn a thing or two from you, ha ha ha!”
Drawing a gloved hand over his mouth as he spoke, Yeager’s eyes narrowed.
“It really is sad, you know….zhat zhe ozhers don’t appreciate all zhe effort you go through to live up to zhe Don’s expectations. So sad! Ja! So very very sad! Vith as little time I schpend around here….you’d think I’d be zhe last person to see zhis sort of thing, und yet! Even I can see how much you’re trying!”
Harry blinked. No. He wasn’t that curious. But, he shrugged lightly as an answer instead. He might as well make it sound like he was agreeing. There wasn’t really a problem with disagreeing with a tired Yeager. In fact, it might be a little interesting to learn about. He didn’t get to see Yeager alone often, so he didn’t get to talk freely or learn much about him. He might as well take advantage of the time they had together now.
Yeager was one of the guild leaders in the Union, not only that, but one of the top five as well. So it was important for him to keep good relations, at least on the surface, wasn’t it?
Even if Leviathan’s Claw rubbed Harry the wrong way some of the time, he couldn’t fault Yeager for any of it. He did his jobs and he did them well. That was what mattered ... well, that and he didn’t seem to cause any problems with the Unions understood rules. No blatant disregards or anything of the sort. So? Play nice. Which was easier said than done, especially for Harry.
Harry was prone to speaking his mind, unfortunately.
“Eh? Not ... I’d do this for anyone in Altosk if I knew they needed it.”
He didn’t quite understand where this was going. Though he understood maybe the idea of it being ‘inspiring’. Sort of. But it was just what Altosk expected of him. What his grandpa expected of him. And, even now, what he expected of himself.
“I’d appreciate it if you would kindly shut yer trap ‘bout me.”
He was now keenly aware of what Yeager said. The little voice in the back of his head agreeing with Yeager, but also making his stomach churn in discomfort. He did not like other’s being able to so clearly see who he was ... or really, what he wanted to complain about, shout about ...
“If ya didn’t wanna tell me anything, ya could’a just said so. I ain’t so interested that I’d go tooth ‘n nail to pry it out.”
