It had slowly become the ending of a very long day for Sutton. Her back was aching, hands dry, and feet slightly swollen as she walked down the stone path across town. The sun was settling on the horizon, the night lights shining the pavement dimly as she continued to hum to herself. Her eyes were met with the familiar neon sign that belonged to Charlie’s diner and there wasn’t a muscle in her body that could stop her from entering. She figured that she’s sabotage a free warm coffee from her best friend and offer her company once Charlie got off her shift on the walk back to their shared home. Her hand circled around the knob of the front door, a smile dancing across her lips as she noticed the deadness that waited for her inside. Sutton noticed Charlie on the other end of the diner and she walked over, her left hand sliding across the empty booths with a laugh. “Half the time I’m convinced you don’t even deserve your paycheck,” She snickered, sliding into the booth across from her friend. “Is it always this dead in here?”
The girl scoffed at her friends statement. “Thank you Sutton.” She took a pen from behind her ear and started spinning it between her fingers. “Not always. I don’t know what happened.” Charlie shrugged. “But as long as I get payed I’m good.” She smiled taking her notepad out of her pocket. “So, do you want anything?”
