Can you believe itās been 5 years? I canāt. So much has changed hasnāt it? since that night we met at that wild Copenhagen dance club. You were so cute and DORKY in your polo shirt. I will never forget how cocky you were when you asked me to dance... I had on the biggest freaking heels and I towered over you, remember that? You didnāt even bat an eye. Lassoed me in. So cocky... you still are and although youāll never admit it, the children have humbled your high-flying ass.
I know this is corny and cheesey or whatever, especially considering the card this is in says āI love you Beary muchā... with a bear. I hope your eyes havenāt popped out of your head from rolling too hard. I do though, I do love you bear-y much Nate-y poo š. And I know you donāt like anniversaries, or sappy sentiments, so thank you for indulging me, the same patient way you have done every year. Youāre a privately thoughtful dude and your secret romanticisms are safe with me. Remember that time you built me a recording studio? Yeah that was 8 thousand times more sappy than this hallmark card. But then you said you built it because it was sound proof... you snarky motherfucker. I love you... bear-y much.
I know I bitch at you for a lot of things, parenthood is stressful, man! but I wouldnāt change one thing about you, Nathan. Not for the world. Well, maybe Iād give you better eyesight. But thatās it, promise. I canāt thank you enough for the direction and the motivation and motherfucking purpose youāve given me. You gave me a whole family... well we gave each other a family, and even though you were nervous about one baby and we got TWO I think we are really knocking it out of the park. I know you still get scared sometimes. So do I. Again, your secret is safe with me. Remember last summer when Orson and Scully were learning to walk, and you threw out everything with sharp edges. Didnāt even discuss it with me. I will miss that Aster sculpture... priceless, and you donated it to the Salvation Army. Lunatic. Iām not even calling you out, it was so loving. I know how much you liked that Filigree coffee table, and you set it on the curb so our kids might not lose an eye. Youāre a sweetheart in your own way and I love you. Youāre such a good dad, Nathan (hey remember when I used to call you daddy and had to stop once that was Scullys first word! Not funny, but still so so funny). Not only are you a great dad (daddy š) you motivated me to be my best self and achieve my full potential to make that album, heck you basically made it for me, by building the studio and hiring the session players... and Iām still not so sure you didnāt pay Pitchfork to feature it. Iām not saying youāre lying... I just donāt believe you. Because you would. To make me smile you would, and if I didnāt outrightly FORBID you from buying me a Grammy, you wouldāve done that too. Because I know youād do anything to make me smile. You donāt even have to say it. Iām saying it. I see you, Nathan. I love you from that silver patch on the top of your head down to your toes. Speaking of which, I owe you a foot rub tonight so remind me after we put the kids to bed š
Love, your Hunny Bunny Tootsie Pop,
I had to get it in one last time!!
Hey, hey, hey. Don't talk shit about the polo shirt. It got me youādidn't it? I knew you couldn't resist me (and my huge muscles) then. Throw in my insane dance moves, and you were guaranteed to be a goner. Okay, I was a goner too. You know those heels were too sexy for your own good. But fuck, I loved the times when you left them on. Maybe we can revisit them soon? (And yes, the kids have definitely humbled me but not my performance. If you need proof, I have plenty of hard evidence.) š
This card is pretty damn awful, honey, but I don't hate it because it's so youāor rather, it's you tormenting me so it's so us. And I do indulge you. But you indulge me too. And you understand that I'm absolute shit at gift-giving. It shouldn't have taken me five years to do it, but I finally built a shrine to youāvirtually, of course. I can't call Bluebook my greatest life's work anymore now that this website exists and is full of you. I say I hate corny shit, but... I can't help it with you. You're worth every bit of corny energy I can muster. You know I love spoiling you.
Being a parent is fucking unreal. Never really imagined that life for me, but I'm so glad it's with you. You're a perfect mom (and smoking hot too). But you are a bit of a liar, you know you love my glasses... Feeling the cool metal nudging between your thighs. š (Look, you knew what kinda horny energy you were getting yourself into so...) Okay, back on topic. If one of has given the other purpose, it's been you, baby. Before I was a fuckin' recluse. Going out dancin' was really my only contact with people outside of the house. My heart was closed off, cold, but you have exercised even more patience and worked it open. And it's only grown since we had not one, but two of the most precious things ever created on this Earth. I know I can be a little very neurotic, but I'm not exactly known for cuttin' corners with anything. That goes for keeping our little ones safe. And you. I know I'm not perfect (though I'm damn close), but I try. Everything I do, I'm gonna do to make sure you and Orson and Scully have the best life possible. Some times it might seem like a lot, but you're worth it. All three of you. I'm never gonna stop doing insanely extravagant shit because it makes you smile. And fuck, I'm a sucker for that smile. And while I didn't buy you a Grammy (that offer is still on the table, just saying), you deserve that and more. You're so insanely talented. A goddess (fitting since I'm a god). Our kids are gonna be the most talented in the world. Our little prodigies. I'm so lucky to have the three most beautiful people in my orbit.
Now... I'm shit at putting how I feel into words, and I know I don't say it enough, but I fucking love you. I love your smile, your crazy obsession with all things corny. Even if it makes me insane, I love when you torture me, or rag on me. I love your foot rubs, they're absolute fuckin' heaven but I think I owe you that footrub. Y'know what? I'll make it a whole body massage because you deserve it. You're the only reason I even know what happiness is, honey. I can't thank you enough for filling my life and my heart the last five years. I can't wait to see all the ways you harrass me in years to come.
P.S. I'm never gonna forgive myself for sayin' this but I love you Bear-y much too. (Just take my man card. I don't deserve it anymore.)
