Mapping Contest!
Hey everyone!
As December's just around the corner, I thought it might be a good idea to hold a contest to see who could create the best winter-themed map!
These contests may happen more often in the future, and I'll add a page to this blog with links to the winning maps.
Here's how entering works:
1. Use the world editor in the server .jar to make... a winter themed map! (If you haven't taken a look at the "Auto" button yet, it could really help; read the instructions .txt). Please keep your entries anonymous (remove personal details from of the filename and image, etc.)!
2. Save the world file and upload it (you may put it in a .zip if you wish) to a website like MediaFire or dropbox.
3. Send a link through the submission box.
I'll collect all the submissions and put them in one .zip file for people to download, and there will be a survey to rate each map.
Anyone interested?
Version 1.1 Release notes
Hopefully this will have been worth the wait!
New Features:
Two chat commands: /d NUMBER to roll a die, gives you a random number from 1 to that number. /nick NAME GOES HERE to change your username. These messages are colored to distinguish them from normal chat messages.
Rain and snow! To add them to a room in the world editor, click on the room; the option will be on the right.
The settings menu actually has a few settings now! You can limit the amount of particles if weather effects lag your computer, and you can opt to see usernames under players.
Server host can now save a chat log to a .txt file.
Server host can now set the port, 18547 is still default.
Server host can now set max players.
Bug Fixes:
Player list on the server now works as it should
Since the settings menu is no longer a special thanks page, special thanks has been moved here.
Reblogging in case people missed it!

All right, Charadev has a little more free time now!
Working on an update, finally. Sit tight.
"What's the max number of frames you can have in an animation?" "Currently, there is none. It may be a sever host option in the future." What about the walking animation? I haven't done any testing, but as far as I know you can only have three frames per direction, right?
Oh, right. Yes, the walking animation is limited to three frames. I assumed "animations" referred to the other type.
I don't have a question, I'd just like to say that this whole project is really cool! Loving the amount of customization. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! It makes me really happy to hear that. I'll try to keep it up!

Currently, there is none. It may be a sever host option in the future.
It's not a complaint or anything, I was just curious if there would be some place where charatalk users could post their servers? Because so far no one I know wants to use it and I'm there sitting and doing a lot of other stuff except Charatalk.
One idea was to use the wiki to provide a place to post such a thing. However, that will require that people start using it regularly, and at the moment it doesn't seem like there are many people (if any) who would be hosting servers.
We're still getting off to a slow start here; I hope that public servers start popping up eventually! Suggestions are also welcome, if you think of anywhere else to post server stuff.
Version 1.0.2 Release notes
New features
Server host can now set sprite size limit (leave blank for none)
Server now has a player list
Auto group creation! This means that you can make large image files that will be divided into rooms automatically. (Still uses bg.png, cmap.png, and overlay.png; dimensions must be multiples of 250 from 250 to 2500). Select "Auto" on the right side of the world editor
Bug fixes
Spawn automatically removed if the group in which it's placed is removed
Will there be a limit to how many custom tiles? I would like to do something similar to the “top of the pyramid of power (lttp) "
By "tiles," I assume you mean the backgrounds? The grid display shows miniature versions of each room, so they might look like tiles if you're zoomed out.
There is no limit, since you can create as many grids as you want! For movement between grids, though, you need to use teleporters. The more rooms you have, though, the longer it takes for clients to connect.
(Apologies if this is already obvious, but the download page is already up if you want to start playing around with the world editor.)
Version 1.0...1.1?
Again, I don't feel as though this is big enough to be an update, but:
New features
Checks to make sure server and client are same version before allowing connection (check will only work for this version and beyond, earlier versions will result in crash: Please update!)
Sprite size limit (To be set by server, currently working but not changeable, for now it is set to none)
Bug fixes
Grid in world editor now draws properly in the Mac version
Spawn sets properly when loading worlds
Can no longer select groups that do not exist in the world editor
I'm expecting some bugs, please continue reporting them if you find any!
I have a long to-do list, so if I told you I'd implement something, don't worry; I haven't forgotten!
Quick bug report: Saving and loading a world will not load the same spawnpoint. The section on the group will be correct, but the spawn's X and Y coordinates will be defaulted.
Ah, good catch! I was setting the spawn's X and Y values to the saved X value only. Sadly that's not even the first time that's happened!
It's fixed, I'll try to get another update out tonight.
Bug fixes
Not enough stuff to be a new version, but I fixed:
-Missing animations crashing the client (for real this time)
-Last row/column rooms being inaccessible
-A small collision map error in the demo world
-The world editor instructions not including info about collision maps
bthedestroyermc answered: I don’t think it’s the best idea to force people to use small sprites, but requesting it would work. The wiki now has a “Large sprite” tag.
Well, due to the second problem (server issues), limits are very important. On public servers, people could abuse the lack of a limit. How about this: the server host can set a limit (or none) and if someone connects with a sprite that's larger than the limit, it resizes it?
