Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, "You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me. Do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters?" What! Whatever. I will just follow you back and stare at your blog with my big beautiful brown eyes.
Reblog if you're okay with people coming into your DMs with the "you seem really odd and your blog intrigues me, do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters"

THIS POST
Doing the "classic work becomes underrated until individually rediscovered" journey right now with A Tale of Two Cities.
Like wow guys have you read this? Has anyone heard of it? It's only one of the most recognized book titles, as well as the most iconic opening lines in Western literature, but it's really really good! Why is no one talking about it? It's good stuff.
It was too much the way of Monseigneur under his reverses as a refugee, and it was much too much the way of native British orthodoxy, to talk of this terrible Revolution as if it were the only harvest ever known under the skies that had not been sown—as if nothing had ever been done, or omitted to be done, that had led to it—as if observers of the wretched millions in France, and of the misused and perverted resources that should have made them prosperous, had not seen it inevitably coming, years before, and had not in plain words recorded what they saw. - Book the Second, Chapter 24 'Drawn to the Loadstone Rock', A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
This is why I think people who say that in A Tale of Two Cities Dickens is 'against revolution' are kind of missing the point. He's clearly not a fan of the violence that was committed during the Revolution, but he was also not saying 'violence is bad and therefore people should put up with ill-treatment forever'.
He sees the Revolution as the 'inevitable' "harvest" of what has been "sown".
The way to avoid revolution is not for the "wretched millions" to put up with their wretchedness forever, but for the "Monseigneurs" of this world to not make them so wretched in the first place.
I agreeeeee he stresses the point that like Saturn the Revolution ate her children and she did !! But at no moment did he imply the Revolution was not justified or that the system and regime pre-révolution should have stayed like this he actually underlined the contrary in the very first pages of the book.
Reread the passage with the child and the carriage and the description of the uprising in the villages and you feel with the inhabitants of Saint Antoine and of the country. There’s a slow and sure escalation towards more violence, it becomes more erratic but Dickens never views the Revolution as something that should not have happened or which was unjustified.
just finished reading a tale of two cities
Me rn I feel like I’ve been hate crimed
one of my girl students: I’ve been loving tale of two cities so much I’ve been forcing my boyfriend to listen to me explain the plot to him over the phone
another of the girls: I read ahead and finished it last night and cried for half an hour and then me and my friend texted about it in all caps
Yet another of the girls: Miss K. I haven’t finished it yet but I’m scared for Sydney noooooooooooo
Okay so spoilers ahead I’m posting this here cause NO ONE I KNOW HAS READ IT.
Finished it four hours ago, still in mourning I’ve cried so much even though I’d preshot the end.
Charles dickens is an evil evil eeeeevil person doing us so mean for the ending i mean the final quote wasn’t enough IF YOU LOOK AT THE LAST CHAPTER’S TITLE ITS JUST SADISM AT THAT POINT .
Okay rant over for now thank u
hi hello and welcome to my post called Ways I Think Star Trek TOS Could Have Been Better
some of these may directly or indirectly contradict canon or each other and will absolutely not be everyone's perfect but i live for chaos.
Both the women and men crewmembers wear pants AND skirts onscreen and there's no gender bias between who's wearing what when
everyone gets equal rights to Yearn whenever a fellow crewmember does something kind of sexy onscreen. yearning equality between all genders
there are at least two if not more scenes of Spock putting on his makeup in the morning and at least one ambiguously homoerotic scene of McCoy ribbing Spock about his makeup application technique while also seeming kind of jealous
Uhura gets to go down on more away missions and have Command Responsibilities independent of a Man - and the whole focus of the episode isn't her coming to terms with that
we get to see men yeomen !!!!!! those thangs exist too
Scotty gets to wear a kilt as part of his regular uniform (spock and the admiralty get into a passive aggressive debate about whether it's logical to make him wear underpants beneath his kilt while on duty) (logically, he argues, there is a high chance of Commander Scott encountering conditions that will inadvertently cause his kilt not to function in the protective fashion most uniform pants would, and therefore expose his genitalia to 1. his fellow crewmembers or visiting aliens, or 2. any number of unfortunate environmental factors such as fire, wind, water, or an enemy's weapon. and that logically Commander Scott ought to find this a significant enough issue to persuade him to wear underpants beneath his kilt for everyone's sake.)
literally all the women are fully allowed to slap any man who touches them inappropriately or without permission and kirk commends them for it.
whenever there's a marriage on the ship THEY ACTUALLY GET TO WEAR FANCY CLOTHES IF THEY WANT !!! none of this normal uniform business, you wouldn't want to get married in your Starbucks apron any more than these guys want to get tethered for life in their redshirts
Spock gets to say "cunt" once per season and everyone nearly faints whenever he uses up his 1 "cunt" permit
Jim wears thighhighs on the regular
The specific admiral April from Star Trek Discovery exists in TOS and she's a lesbian. this is pure fanservice and the fan here is me.
there's a designated ship's physiotherapist and massage therapist that they send people to. i don't even think this would make the show much better but i do think the crewmembers would thank me for it because the stress levels they've all got could give a person enough hypertension headaches to take them to their grave
Bones swears so much at one point that Kirk takes his swearing privelages away on the universal translator. he does Not take kindly to this and starts picking new random words to become his swears
Spock has 5x more shame about everything than he does in the actual show but he's also just a sassy bitch. the other people on the show realise this and actively canonically describe him as bitchy
THEY ACTUALLY MENTION JIM'S TRAUMA FROM TARSUS IV IN MORE THAN ONE EPISODE even if it means they have to recap it each time
In one episode we see Jim having a dream like they did in that one House MD episode where he and Spock are a married couple with a young daughter and they're all existing an an idyllic 60s sitcom about the nuclear family except it's Jim and Spock. he wakes up from this and has a pensive moment we see on screen looking out into the distance. when he walks out of his room in the morning he and Spock stroll up to the bridge together and spock asks him if he slept well and he says yes mister spock thank you and clenches his hand like Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice 2005 and then they walk off together. and this means nothing and is never discussed again
McCoy gets carried like a princess by either Jim, Spock or Scotty at least twice a season and looks sufficiently grumpy about it every time.
save me mr spock
uhhhh my first post - and it's Varang, The Fire , the 'i can fix her '
