We Need to Talk

Charlie licked her lips. There really wasn’t an easy way to say this and she was never one to mince words. “Sawyer and I will not be returning to school. We’ve decided to seek out our claim through a different school. Neither of us feel like this is the best environment for us to form a long lasting claim and the classes are no longer challenging to me.” Her voice sounded detached, void of any emotion she normally had when she spoke to Kolbe. She hated the time and the effort she had placed into him only to have it been a waste of both of their time. “I don’t expect you to join us as we haven’t entered into any sort of claim and you legally don’t belong to me.” She wasn’t going to ask him because she refused to be rejected in the same way she had been with Ainsley. Her ego could only handle so much. “I didn’t want to disappear and you leave you without any sort of explanation.”
He blinked slowly at her words and furrowed his eyebrows. The feeling that had washed over him wasn’t something that he could fully describe in that moment. He rubbed the back of his neck as she finished speaking, wondering if he was supposed to be grateful for this. Though he supposed it was a one-up from Sofia leaving him without any form of explanation or goodbye. Or maybe it was worse, having to sit in front of Charlie and have her tell him that she was leaving. He didn’t know yet. He looked away from her and clenched his jaw slightly. “You’re right…that we haven’t entered into any sort of claim. But I thought that was where we were heading. But if that was the case…if you were actually serious about wanting me, I think you would have talked to me about leaving too. Not just Sawyer.” He rubbed his face and let out a sharp laugh that was filled with no humor. “Jokes on me though.”
She had to admit that he had a point but as far as she was concerned, she was being gracious in telling him at all. She could have simply left him like his previous domme and left him wondering why he hadn’t been enough. Maybe things would have been easier for everyone involved if the two of them had left quietly without telling anyone. Perhaps this would be easier for him if he hated her in the end. It might allow him to get over her quicker and move on with his life. She cleared her throat and stood up from her seat. “Well, I suppose that’s it then. Unless there was something else you need to say?”
