Hawkeye’s Rescue
Avengers AU taking place after Civil War.
A middle school field trip is interrupted and a group of kids and their chaperone are rescued by Hawkeye and the Avengers. Secrets come to light and Hawkeye finds himself asking ‘who rescued who?’
*************
You had jokingly said before your bus pulled out from the school early this morning that this field trip promised to be interesting. If you had only known just how interesting you might have thought twice about volunteering to be a chaperone. But you knew many of the kids and they asked you to go so you had said yes. I mean you like roller coasters and the water park so 6 flags sounded like a fun trip.
As you sit huddled against the brick wall trying to keep the kids quite you almost laugh as the thought ‘a terrorist attack wasn’t listed anywhere on the itinerary’ flashes through your mind. The ten kids with you are terrified. In all honesty so are you but you’re trying to stay calm for the kids.
The minutes drag by. You can hear commotion all around you but you can’t make out what any of it means. As a shadow crosses your face you look up to see a person in a ski mask staring down at you. You press the kids behind you and say a silent prayer. As you whisper ‘amen’ in your mind the man hits the pavement face first.
It takes you a few moments to realize he had been tackled by someone. As you breath a sigh of relief your rescuer kneels down in front of you. “Mam? Is anyone hurt?”
You turn and check on the kids and then back to the man. “A few scrapes but nothing major. Mostly scared.” He reaches out and touches your forehead gently. “It’s just a scratch,” you tell him hoping he realizes you’re down playing the head wound for the kids. He sits down beside you and tells the kids to relax before he speaks into his com, “I’ve got an adult female and several kids by the bathrooms on the East side. One perp down here as well.” He listens for a moment and then turns to you and offers his hand for you to shake.
“I’m Clint. My team has taken out the rest of the attackers. I’m gonna wait here with you. The team is doing another sweep just to be sure and our team doc is coming to make sure everyone is ok.”
Having calmed down slightly some of the kids suddenly are very excited. “I know you! You’re Hawkeye from the Avengers!” Now that you hear it you realize they are right. Sitting beside you is your secret crush for the past several years. You shyly look up at him and offer a smile as you manage to eek out, “Thank you Clint. For saving us.”
He sees the blush on your face and finds it charming. He watches as you talk to the kids and try to keep them from bombarding him with questions. These kids all like you and respect you he can tell. To try and ease their exuberant questions he asks some of his own.
“So are you guys here with a group,” he asks the kids. They all try to answer him at once so the lady shushes them. “We’re on a school field trip. I was the chaperone for this lot.”
He asks about the school and the grade the kids are in. He tells them his two oldest kids are around their ages. He finds himself curious about this lady that is with them so he asks the kids, “So is this lovely lady a mom to any of you?”
The kids all laugh at his compliment and several inform him you are their “school mom.” At the expression on his face one boy explains that some of them have known you for 3 years and you always take care of them at school.
About that time a female voice is heard from around the corner yelling, “Clint! Where the hell are you?”
He stood up and yelled back, “Over here Nat. Is Bruce with you?”
A moment later a red headed woman you recognize as Black Widow steps around the corner followed by Bruce Banner. “Nat, will you lead these students to the front gate? I’m going to get Bruce to check the bump on their teachers head before taking her out.”
The kids all look at you, some realizing for the first time there is blood on your forehead. You assure them you’re ok and for them to go ahead. Once they are gone Clint sits down beside you again and asks, “so what actually happened?”
With the kids gone you’re strong facade begins to crack. He puts his arm around you to help support you. You explain how the man grabbed you and threw you against the wall causing you to hit your head. You had gotten between him and the kids as you realized he had found your group.
Bruce determines you have a concussion but don’t need stitches. Both men help you to your feet and escort you to the front gate.
