Can’t wait for day trips like this to happen again 🌞🦋
Shel Silverstein wanted to say something very wise. So he wrote a children’s book.
I couldn’t fully appreciate these as a kid. I’m so glad to see these. Shel Silverstein was so magnificent.
Something I am learning:
It is never going to get easier. Life is never going to stop throwing you curveballs. People will never cease to disappoint you. And you will never have the ability to perfect every circumstance that comes your way.
But…with each stumble, each failure, each heartbreak, and each painful interaction, you are getting better. How you handle your 3rd heartbreak is entirely different than the 1st or 6th. How you handle being broke now is completely different than how you may have handled it last year or 10 years from now. How you approach a job loss or a bad grade this semester is going to be different than how you handled it in the past. And this is because you are getting better.
So that gives me some hope because even though life may not be getting better, I am getting better every step of the way. I am in control of my progress. I determine my own success and that’s all that really matters.
You don’t have to be grateful that it isn’t worse.
read that. read it again, and again, and again. somebody, somewhere, always has it worse than you. there is one person on this planet that has it the worst of all, and that person is NOT the only person allowed to be unhappy with their lot. if things are bad for you, they are bad for you. period.
This goes for trauma as well. A lot of times survivors get trapped in a cycle of minimizing/diminishing their trauma because “other people have it worse” - but there is no hierarchy of trauma. There is no ranking system for which traumas are “better” or “worse.” Your trauma is valid. Period.
