“Because the problem with knowledge is its inexhaustible craving. The more of it you have, the less you feel you know. Thus, men often go mad in search of it.”

a California dream
With overnight lows just creeping out of the below-zero range, spring won’t be coming to Lake Clark National Park and Preserve in Alaska for quite some time. Covering over 4 million acres, the park has two distinct climate areas: the coast and the interior. The coast is often foggy and wet, with an average annual rainfall of 40 to 80 inches. The interior averages only 17 to 26 inches, but often suffers temperatures as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. For the few winter visitors intrepid enough to face these conditions, the pristine solitude of this special place is something to behold. Photo by W. Hill, National Park Service.
