The ringtone lets Bruce know before he’s even pulled the phone out that someone in his family is calling from a civilian line, which—given the current hour—should mean Alfred is calling. The caller ID displays Tim Drake instead.
Threads of concern and apprehension coil through him, but it’s possible—something prevented Tim from heading out with Dick tonight. If he were sick, or injured, Alfred would have let him know already, but it’s possible something came up with school or his friends. Dick would be just fine handling a solo night in the Batman suit.
There’s no proof that anything is wrong yet. Bruce takes a steady breath and accepts the call. “Hey, Tim,” he says as he unlocks his car. “I’m—”
“Sorry,” a mechanized voice cuts in, and Bruce goes still, fingers curled around the driver door handle. “Tim’s not available right now.”
Or: Instead of taking over the drug trade, Red Hood kidnaps Bruce Wayne.
So in case you're wondering how my year is going, we're three months behind production on a major project at work (yes, it's my job to worry about this) and I'm taking next week off anyway (even though I'll probably still check emails) not because I'm going to have an adventure but because I'll hit my PTO cap otherwise and stop accruing (I've only taken two days off so far this year) so I'm filling it with things like doctor and plumber appointments. And writing. Fuck, I hope I get to writing.
I didn’t even make it two full days of PTO before I got a text from my boss about an urgent item (she is handling it, but I had to jump on a call to clarify some things before she could begin).
Me: Why haven't nine days off in a row actually felt restful? Why haven't I gotten any writing done?
Also me: [had to babysit work emails and messages, logged in one day to do urgent work, left the house six days out of those nine, spent some of those outside days in the actual sun/heat]

The FFXV 2026 Remix and 2026 Remix Madness are now open. Sign ups close this weekend!
WHAT IS THE REMIX EVENT?
The FFXV Remix is an event where you recreate someone else’s FFXV content with your own interpretation. It is an event intended for people who are interested in stretching their creative muscles and playing in someone else’s sandbox. Sign up for this event because you want to create in someone else’s world, not because you want to receive anything. There are no pinch hitters, so there is no guarantee that your work will get remixed, in the end.
At the end of the day, the Remix is not a gift exchange.
The person assigned to your works does not have to create content you would want to consume. To quote someone back from the early beginnings of the dawn of the remix challenge, “even if you don’t like what’s done to your story, your story is still *yours* and no one can take it from you. Someone else playing with it doesn’t change the original text.”
The remix is for you if:
You want the challenge of being randomly assigned a creator's works to remix.
You're comfortable with random matching.
You meet the minimum number of works required to participate.
WHAT IS THE REMIX MADNESS EVENT?
The FFXV Remix Madness is an event where people give permission for anyone to recreate specific FFXV content with their own interpretation. Submit your own FFXV works to this event because you want to provide others with the chance to play in your sandbox. Claim prompts in this event if you’re interested in stretching your creative muscles.
This is not a gift exchange. There are no matches, no pinch hitters, and no guarantee that your work will get remixed.
People who claim a work for Remix Madness do not have to create content the original creator would want to consume. To quote someone back from the early beginnings of the dawn of the remix challenge, “even if you don’t like what’s done to your story, your story is still *yours* and no one can take it from you. Someone else playing with it doesn’t change the original text.”
Remix Madness is a free-for-all version of the main FFXV Remix. No assignments, no matching—just remix madness using the prompt meme challenge in AO3.
Remix Madness runs like a prompt meme instead of a gift exchange. You don’t need to sign up to remix someone else’s work. And there’s no word count minimum for what can be submitted for remixing—anything goes, as long as it’s complete.
Remix madness is for you if:
You don't have enough qualifying works to participate in the FFXV Remix.
You're concerned about the random matching system in the FFXV Remix.
You want to offer up a work to remix, but don't want to or aren't able to create anything yourself.
Possession, Flirting, and Other Dice Rolls (3122 words) by chasingfigments
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Prompto Argentum/Ignis Scientia
Additional Tags: the chocobros rope ignis into playing a ttrpg with them, Hijinks & Shenanigans
Summary:
Gladio raps the table twice, then says in the higher acolyte’s voice, “Adept Sancus, you have visitors.”
“Come in,” Ignis says, after a half-second’s doubt. He does not try for anyone’s voice but his own.
“Wisdom check,” Gladio says.
Ignis rolls his d20 and adds his proficiency to it. “Fifteen.”
“The two strangers before you are clearly experienced adventurers, or maybe mercenaries, based on the weapons they carry and the wear and tear on their armor and other gear. They’re successful at it, too, because they seem well-fed, in good health, and have all of their limbs. The woman is a little taller than the man, though they seem of age and are similar enough in coloring and facial structure that you wouldn’t at all be surprised if they were related.”
Ignis hums at that information, considers the backstory he crafted with Gladio, and asks simply, “Has Mother hired you to kill me?”

This year, my goal was to write 75,000 words. I didn’t meet this goal—in fact, I only wrote 32,508 words (43.3% of the goal)—but I also don’t think the word count is an accurate reflection of my creative time/effort, either. More on that later.
My best writing month was June with 5,604 words.I wrote the least amount of words in December (104), which is absolutely no surprise to me because last month (and the month before, honestly), were stressful for various IRL reasons.
My big 2025 project was finishing Civil Hands with @crazyloststar. We posted chapters 18 through 38. We wrote the last nine chapters in 2025, plus we did the fine-tuned editing, rewrites, and other finessing for chapters 18 through 38. Almost none of that editing work on 18 through 38 is reflected in my word count unless I ended up having to write entirely new sections. There were points in the year where crazyloststar and I were having two calls a week to finish up this project, and we posted the final chapter on September 3. I’m incredibly proud of our work on that fic and grateful to the many artists who collaborated with us on bringing various scenes to life.
Once Civil Hands was finished, I returned to For Some Desperate Glory and managed to write one chapter (bringing the total up to four).
I also wrote and posted Something Sweeter for the @ffxvremix. It’s a short one-shot, featuring Crowe having a huuuuuuge crush on Luna.
(And then there were seven other IRL projects that required writing and were finished.)
In 2026, my first priority will be to write a fanwork exchange fic for @happy-orc (in trade for her artwork on chapter 17 of Civil Hands). I’ve selected one of her excellent prompts and have started on it. I’m looking forward to writing a character I’ve never done a POV from before, and I think it will be a lot of fun.
My second priority is For Some Desperate Glory. I would really like to finish that this year. There are eight chapters left in my outline, and right now I’m averaging ~5,700 words per chapter, so 2026 is going to need to be a very focused year if this is going to happen.
My Lysithea fic is my third priority. I didn’t touch it at all last year, but I did reread it fairly recently, and I still love it a lot. If I get to it at all in 2026, it will be as a palate cleanser from FSDG. I don’t anticipate I’ll get to it in earnest until after FSDG is completed, and I very much doubt I will be posting it in 2026.
Otherwise, I still have several smaller FFXV WIPs scattered about. I haven’t entirely decided to scrap them, but they’re very much on the back burner this year.
My theme for 2026 is connections with myself, my family, my friends, and my communities. I have some concrete goals regarding this, including some financial items. I’ll keep my 75,000 word goal for this year, and with any luck, come closer to reaching that with my various projects.
Hoping that 2026 is a better year than the last for all of you!
