There is… something outside of Velen killing people. Even all the way up in Kaedwen people are talking about it and when Eskel had suggested they check it out, Geralt had been glad for any excuse not to part with him quite yet. He’s always had complicated feelings for Eskel, ones he knows can never be reciprocated, so he keeps them to himself but takes any opportunity to spend more time with him.

But he knows there is a limit, knows Eskel’s kindness only goes so far and even if it did extend to something more than platonic or familial, Geralt can never give him what he wants. They don’t get much time to themselves these days, just the few months over the winter where they can relax, so even a hunt for an unnamed, unknown creature is as good an excuse as any. Part of him feels guilty for it, for lying to Eskel, for clinging to any reason to spend more time with him. He knows it’s what Lambert did to both of them as a kid and they both hated it, but Geralt can’t stop himself.

Because Eskel is strong and kind and handsome and Geralt has been enamoured since day one.

So now he’s making his way into Velen blindly searching out something that’s seemingly killing indiscriminately just for the chance to spend another few days with him. Which is, when he puts it plainly, quite ridiculous. At least he has the monster hunter facade to hide behind this time.

The first few people they speak to are unwilling to help despite the fact that it was their family members who were taken. They’re stubborn or afraid and while Eskel has the patience to thank them nicely, Geralt is frustrated. Most of the people taken have been young so at first, they thought it was taking children, which would have made it fairly easy to place, but the more they look into it, the more varied the ages turn out to be. By Eskel’s notes, anyone between three years old and eighty-two has been taken.

So they have to try again. But the next day, they speak to the other residents of the town: farmers, bakers, the keeper of the small shop. They’re more open than the others, if only just, but from them Geralt and Eskel discover a little bit more about the victims. One of them was an unmarried man, happy enough to live on his own with his chickens and sell eggs at the market. Another, a young woman, widowed on her wedding night in a terrible accident. A few children. There still doesn’t seem to be any connection between them and Geralt is frustrated.

Summary: Regis asks Geralt to take care of a higher vampire days before Eskel is supposed to arrive at Corvo Bianco. Eskel arrives early. Nothing goes to plan.

Geralt doesn’t expect to get a house call from Regis before Eskel is supposed to arrive, asking him to deal with a rather problematic higher vampire. He’s not in best form anymore, but he’s never one to turn down a contract, especially one that’s directly affecting the little community he’s come to think of as his own.

“I’ll look into it, Regis,” he assures, and Regis nods, looking regretful.

“Whatever course you have to take, Geralt,” he says, “even if that means you can’t convince them to move on.” Geralt simply nods back.

“I will.”

“And be safe. We worry about you, you know.” At that Geralt smiles.

“I know, old friend. I’ll stop by when it’s done.”

He turns immediately to preparing, donning his armor and stocking his potion pouch. He should still have a few days before Eskel arrives, probably. His letter had been post marked a little over a month ago from up near Vizima. It should take at least another few weeks, even if he’s traveling fast.

He’s not sure why it’s so important he has this taken care of before Eskel arrives. Or, well, that’s not entirely true. He does know.He just doesn’t want his brother to think he’s not relaxing down here, not enjoying his well-earned retirement. And he…maybe wants to show off. Just a little. Old habits die hard, after all.

So he’s hoping to be there and back before Eskel arrives, betting on the letter having been delivered early through favorable weather and traveling conditions. What he doesn’t consider is the same conditions to get the letter here weeks early would have sped Eskel’s travel as well.

He meets him on the road, just outside Corvo Bianco.

“Geralt,” Eskel greets as his horse Scorpion trots up, throwing his head in delight at seeing Roach, who promptly stops and whirls to meet him, huffing her own delight, “didn’t realize I’d be getting a greeting at the gate. Don’t tell me you’ve been waiting out here since you got my letter.” He’s teasing, Geralt knows, but he can still feel the hot flush climbing his cheeks in response.

“Taking care of a contract for some locals. I’ll be back, you can–”

“Come with you, yes?” Eskel cuts in, giving him a grin, and Geralt’s weak.

“I suppose,” he says, “but you’re supposed to be on vacation.”

“And you’re supposed to be retired,” Eskel fires back, letting Scorpion fall into step with Roach as they make their way down the road to the old estate home the vampire had last been seen at, “so what are we hunting?”

“Higher vampire,” he sighs, “they’ve been killing indiscriminately. Regis has spoken to them about it, but to no effect, so–” he shrugs.

“So bring in the cavalry,” Eskel supplies, nodding, “alright. We’ll see what we can do.”

I really don’t like rap

I get weirded out when people call me by my name. It’s not that I dislike my name, but I’m just really taken aback when someone actually uses it (I actually prefer it when people mispronounce my name)

I currently have a one-sided enemies-to-friends thing going on with someone. And I’m afraid the other person thinks it’s more like a friends-to-lovers thing. The whole thing is ridiculous. It feels like I’m in a soap opera (if anyone cares, I’m always happy elaborate :D)

I only had a few accidents so far and almost all of them included me falling and hitting my head (once from a wagon, another time slipping on ice) or things (a small wooden beam) falling and landing straight on my head. Looking back, I definitely was one of the weirder kids. My friend and I were into cosplay when we were around… 14? 15? years old and one day I went to school wearing a Itachi Uchiha wig. And a boy who was in my class at that time pulled the wig off my head as a joke, not knowing that I obviously had secured my hair with a net and toooons of hair clips. Not my greatest day. Not my worst.

Quarantine is slowly turning me into an old white man that gets irrationally angry at everything without reason. I turn into a version of my father who slowly turns into a version of our neighbor. We hate our neighbor, because he is THE privileged angry old white man. *sigh*

I am tall (~1.78) and every single gay brain cell I own wants a tiny s.o. The moment I will find myself in a (my first) relationship I will start to work out, not to loose weight but so I can carry my s.o. around whenever we feel like it.

You can always ask me anything. Anything. And on the internet I will always answer truthfully because at this point in my life I don’t give a fuck about my pride anymore.

I will kill to save my dog’s life. I am emotionally prepared for it, don’t challenge me. (also I’d always jump between my dog and danger, already had to a bunch of times and never regretted it)

I might actually be a hobbit - smol (1.63m), loves peace and quiet, nature and comforts.

I used to be a hobbyist archer.

I’m quiet. Like, really quiet. Some days, I barely talk. (Especially now during the pandemic when I work and study remotely).

I’m extremely resistant to bad smells but extremely sensitive to noise. Any noise louder than the normal volume of human voice? My ears Cannot Take It.

I suffer from the disease called tendency to overdress. I just love fancy clothing, damn. Even though I dislike the attention I attract when I’m all dressed up, I still usually wear elegant outfits bc they’re my absolute weakness.

Hooray for conquering a fear!!!

I am smol.

I have recently bought dungarees and I am in love.

Today I harvested the first cucumber I ever grew.

I have been trying different creative hobbies over the last year since I didn’t have one I could do alone. So far only knitting has really stuck, but abstract painting and beta-ing is very fun, too! Next projects will be crotcheting, pastels and maybe writing some more?

I really like reading whump. Apparently I don’t seem like I do, but I want to see those characters hurt. (Feel free to send me all your recs 🥰)

1. I’m about five foot six, and usually wear timbs which bumps me up a little extra! 2. When I was a teenager, I briefly met Brian May which is probably the coolest thing that’ll ever happen to me. The interaction was literally just me, panicking, offering him cocktail weenies. I think the intensity of my weenie offering might have freaked him out a little lmao 3. I have almost the entirety of Hamlet’s “To be, or not to be” soliloquy memorized, and won a class jeopardy game because of it. 4. I once did such a bad Kermit impression, I lost my voice for a full day afterward. 5. I’m a massive Romantic poet nerd- in my degree I managed to shoehorn them into at least one assignment per class. If I figure out how to combine Witcher and Shelley it’s all over for you all- I’ll be insufferable >:)
