Carrying on my fried chicken quest I decided to visit this local hole in the wall outlet that was pumping out orders non-stop. On closer inspection it's nothing flash. No LED TV menu or fancy signage, just an A4 laminated menu. But these guys are making a killing. I decided to go with their Signature Spicy Chicken burger and hot wings with coke. It's a combo and you can order these things separately. The chicken patty is marinated in this thick red sauce that looks like my kids red paints. The outcome is this crunchy juicy and rather large thigh fillet. The burger isn't complicated with fillings, mayo and lettuce. Amazing. The chicken wings were also marinated well. A hint of five spice and chilli. Super crunchy batter. Level 3 takeaways. It started with a stroll up Queen Street and stumbled at BBQ Duck Cafe. Had to pop my head in behind the wall of tables to see how I can order. Most outlets weren’t taking orders by the door (not sure why) and was asking me to order online. So i tried. @burgerfuel and @zambreronz website crashed! Anyway I enjoyed Roast duck and Roast Pork. After so much procrastination we made ourselves vegan pork sliders with an avocado coleslaw. If you’re wondering where to get mini slider buns, go to your local Countdown for yummy brioche mini buns. Auckland Ramen Battle. Round 1, FIGHT! Ippudo VS Daruma Firstly Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2020 brings in a lot of happiness and positive vibes. 3 new ramen eateries have sprung up in Auckland in 2019 and this gives us so much more choice. We now have the very famous Ippudo and Ajisen serving their traditional meatier, richer, pork broth. Fukuoka being the birth place of the thicker pork ramen, I do prefer them over the shoyu or chicken stock ramen. Now down to the battle! Ippudo wins with the soup taste and ramen texture. Daruma wins with the inclusion of the egg and their flavourful charsiu. So which one wins the battle here? I think if you’re looking at value and not waiting in line for a seat then Daruma wins this round. But I must admit Ippudo’s broth is out of this world!! Next battle Daruma VS Ajisen. It’s been a while. With work commitments and travel, it’s been hard to go out and explore. It is good to see a bunch of new eateries opened in Newmarket which I will be reviewing soon. This beef noodles beauty is quite popular at Tastea Alley. Including my milk tea it came in at $18 which is a bargain really. A tomatoey, spicy and deep beef broth sent my taste buds wild. The beef was cooked well and fell apart in your mouth. A classic Taiwanese dish which has been cooked well. Eating at a resort can be costly. Lucky in Thailand a lot of budding entrepreneurs will setup a small or even big restaurant next to hotels. TonTan is 10 steps away from the resort and we ordered 3 dishes which were all yummy. The standout being the stir fry morning glory and pork mince omelette. Note: please don't go to Noonnit Restaurant outside of the resort. So not worth it and wasn't tasty at all. The aunty selling her curry mee in a lane next to a coffee shop is an institution at Taman OUG. Her curry Laksa is power house of flavour and ingredients. Just thinking of her dish makes my mouth water. I'd eat this over and over and over again. As a side order you can get the chicken feet curry stew. Deep fried then slow cooked until the meat, skin and cartilage just falls from the bone. We asked our relatives where to go for lunch and they directed us to a shop selling all different varieties of noodles. I ordered a bowl of chilli pan mee. Lovely hand stripped pieces of pasta, served with mince pork, anchovies and a good dollop of chilli paste. So delicious and we'll worth the wait as this store is busy even at 1.30pm! Dim Sum in Melaka is different from everywhere else in Malaysia. This place that is known only to locals is a gem. Located in a shack behind a school is unique and as 'kampung' as you get. We tried their specialities like fried char siew pau, fried turnip cake and very different chicken feet dish cooked with Chinese herbs. We find out later in the day that they don't make their dim sum in Melaka and instead is delivered each morning from Johor Bahru. Cheated? Not sure but it was nice to try something different. Eating local and not at some tourist restaurant is what we're all about. Aunty Lee's is outside the city and away from Jonker walk. They serve traditional Nyonya dishes which we found so delicious. Every dish was cooked so well and authentic. We ordered PIE TIE, TAUHU UDANG TAUCHU, CINCALOK OMELETTE, SAMBAL PETAI PRAWNS, AYAM (chicken) PONG TEH and finished their signature Cendol. Melaka is a great foodies heaven. There is just so much choice here but you need to soak up the sites first as there is so much history here. After a big dinner and a good catch up with family, we can get peckish. So we got Ramly burger delivered. 😂👌🍔 Ramly burger is like the staple late night snack for Malaysians. This burger is special because he uses a very red sweet chilli sauce and pepper sauce to make it super delicious. The patty is chicken but still delicious. 1st day back and breakfast is different here. Traditional nasi lemak from a roadside stall is the only way to go. Pig intestine spicy noodles. Noodles were made fresh and the nuclear pork soup was helping destroy any hangover I had that day. On my way back from Hanoi I had a 5hr layover in Singapore. Got in touch with my favourite Singaporean mates and their family for a dinner at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant. Out comes a seafood fried rice cooked by a robot. The norm at all the restaurants. I give err... it a 3.5/5. What I didn’t know was that I had food poisoning which the heat didn’t help. Went to visit the toilet and had a cleansing experience (to put it kindly).
